Troll Axethrowers?
 

I know that Dwarves carry various weapons such as an axe as showed by Gimli, as well as short swords and mattocks used by the dwarves of the Iron Hills in the Battle of 5 Armies, but where is it in Tolkien's work there is a description of troll axe throwers?

I actually can't think of an instance.

Where have you heard the term?

Just curious to see where the basis was for the idea of Gimli throwing axes in the movie as well as Troll Axethrowers as a unit in one of the LOTR games, probably just an invention of the movies.

I dont think there is any instance where a troll throws axes... in the books or movies. I'm posotive about the books, i dont remember axe throwing trolls in the movies either, but i may be wrong about both.

Throwing axes seems like a wasteful habit.
