And they tell us to throw it all away!
So about the Bakshi cartoon...
Usually this movie sticks closer to the book than PJ does, but in its Mirror of Galadriel scene, they severely messed it up. Galadriel's tempation by the Ring is terrific (in every sense of the word) in the book, but in the Bakshi version, they throw this all away and instead have Galadriel lightly laugh off Frodo's offer. "Hahaha, no Frodo, you silly widdle Hobbit, I pass your test," she says as she twirls around and plays with her dress. Why? Does this have any connection to Boyens, Walsh and Jackson deciding not to have Faramir say "I would not pick it up if it lay by the highway"? |
Maybe they felt that only Frodo should feel the incredible pull of the Ring because we were going to focus on him throughout the film. The scene with Galadriel seemed to be more about telling us what the Ring could do in the hands of a more powerful person rather than the power of the Ring alone as in the book.
Also, we had already seen Gandalf refuse to take the Ring with reasons why so they may have thought that there was no need to explain it again. |
Maybe they found the idea of a threatening female inconceivable.

More likely they couldn't think of how to animate it and didn't have the money to use their oh so wonderful special FX on her.

I hope you're not implying, Estel, that I think the idea is inconceivable. I'm just trying to get inside a mindset.
Or maybe you were referring to the furious Bakshi fans. :p |
