Gems unearthed
Seeing as HerenIstarion's great thread Quote of the Day threatens to lose its currency ;) I thought it perhaps best to start a thread where we can bring to attention posts or quotations from years past which merit acclaim and attention still. These are posts which shine with some refracted light of the simarils or which bear some fruit of the One White Tree: despite the passage of time, they still reward reading, as wit, good humour, perception always do. (And should I add, show by their very nature the limitations of chat? :D )
Child of the 7th Age's post about pity, the Ring, and the Crack of Doom Remember, now: no balrogs, please! ;) |
Ummm, both of those links took me to the same thread.
Anyway, I think Oddwen's Quote:

Thanks for your very kind words. The second link does not work. Is this the post you are referring to? Click here for Mount Doom. (Nothing like tooting my own horn.) It's always interesting to read something that I wrote several years ago. Sometimes it has receded so far in my head that it almost feels like reading a post written by someone else! I wonder if anyone else ever feels this way. |
Yes, thanks Child. That was the link I meant to provide. :o One of the best explanations I have seen on this site of how pity seems to work with the fortuitiousness which runs through LotR.
Now, now Meneltarmacil. I specifically said, "no balrogs please." :p Maybe I should retrieve some of Squatter's gems of humour. That'll set the standard for humour, especially since his most notorious thread has been lost. ;) |
I'm sorry. I didn't really know what you meant by "balrogs" there, but I thought it had something to do with the Endless Wing Debate.

I get most of that, but what are the midnight viewings?
|
I believe it's referring to a pair of tickets for the midnight showings at a local movie theatre. Which I rather wish I'd had... I didn't get to see RotK until February! Mind you... it wasn't my fault... :)

Meanwhile, back on topic. I like the Two Frodos thread very much. And Frodo's Sacrifice. |
