Question on Brandir.
Does anybody have any good explination of why Brandir killed Dorlas when he encountered him in the woods? We know that Brandir was not a man of violence so it doesn't seem to fit his personality very well. The only thought that I have is that he was irate due to two causes...he was upbraided by Dorlas and he just witnessed his love commit suicide but I still don't see why he would just kill somebody like that. Any ideas?

IMO, if Darlas would have walked away, he would not have been killed by Brandir. |
It's been a bit since I've read the Unfinished Tales...I guess I should have looked there first but that makes a bit more sense now...it's left fairly vague in the Silmarillion :)
