no, but I bet you a pound to a penny PJ won't be doing it with New Line :p

Makar 03-07-2005 07:15 PM

Alright. And the rights to the Hobbit still belong to the Tolkien estate? Or does Miramax, who thought about doing LotR, have them?

Which doesn't mean much of anything really, suing over profits is the movie industry way of begining negotations, and it rarely stops people from continuing to work together.

Actually, as I understand it, New Line has the right to make a movie based on The Hobbit, but another studio (Universal???) holds the distribution rights. At least, that's where it stood last year, and I've heard nothing concrete about negotiations since then.

I think its a shame they have to argue over rights but i guess it has to be done. I hope whoever gets rights to the hobbit movie that they give it to someone who actually knows the tolkien world in detail. The film wont require some big time director just someone who appreciates ME. It would be good if PJ does it but i doubt that he would put the same effort that he did into LOTR. Alas i hope that they get someone who genuinly wants to do it and is not just in it for the money.
