HoME is where the heart is....

The heart of Middle-Earth, that is. This is a quiz game devoted to asking questions about the History of Middle-Earth series and is doubly tricksy because some stuff made it into LotR and the Silmarillion and some didn't- it's up to you to figure out the right answer.

(Note to mods- I searched for a quiz game on HoME and couldn't find one; please feel free to shut this down if it's a duplicate.)

Anyway, which infamous character did Earendil slay in earlier versions of the Silmarillion that did not find it's way into the published Sil.?

NightKnight 10-02-2004 09:51 AM

Good work, I was actually planning on starting a thread like this, but I hadn't decided whether to do it on HoME or just BoLT.

And the answer to your question is Ungoliant.

Fingolfin II 10-02-2004 06:50 PM

Thanks, NightKnight.

You're answer is correct, too :).

NightKnight 10-03-2004 10:42 AM

Well, well...

How many people escaped the fall of Gondolin?

NightKnight 10-13-2004 01:40 PM

*Bumpity*

Come on, it's easy! :p

Lindolirian 10-13-2004 02:41 PM

So I'm lucky I just read that today...
320 males and 260 females= 580 Gondothlim.

NightKnight 10-14-2004 12:22 AM

Yup, though they were a bit less than 800 when they left the city.

Lindolirian 10-14-2004 05:03 PM

What was Alboin's name in Numenor?

Fingolfin II 10-16-2004 09:25 PM

Hmm......I think this is in the Lost Road which I haven't read for a while so there are two possibilities in my mind. However, I'll go for Elendil?

Lindolirian 10-17-2004 01:13 PM

Better try your other possiblity...;)

Fingolfin II 10-20-2004 01:42 AM

Ok then- is it Herendil?

Lindolirian 10-20-2004 07:50 AM

Indeed, it is. :)

Fingolfin II 10-21-2004 01:07 AM

Cheers,

What was the name of the Ranger Hobbit with broken shoes?

NightKnight 10-21-2004 03:15 PM

Trotter?

Fingolfin II 10-22-2004 01:35 AM

Yep. Good old Aragorn.

NightKnight 10-22-2004 07:46 AM

Haven't read further than half of Shaping of ME, but I read it somewhere on the forum. Anyway...

Who were the original founders of Nargothrond?

Lindolirian 10-25-2004 10:30 AM

The Petty Dwarves?

NightKnight 10-25-2004 03:19 PM

Nope. They may have built the caves, but I'm talking about the city/realm.

telpetari 10-26-2004 01:52 AM

Wouldn't that be Finrod and/or the Noldor he took with him there.

NightKnight 10-26-2004 05:07 AM

Nope.

NightKnight 11-05-2004 04:07 PM

Come on, I know you can get it!

Lindolirian 11-05-2004 06:01 PM

Unless it's the Rodothlim (whom I thought were the same as Felgund and his following of Noldor) perhaps you could give a hint, like what book it's in? :)

NightKnight 11-06-2004 04:23 AM

I think it's in the Lays of Beleriand.

The rodothlim were the percursors of Nargothrond, but I'm talking about Nargothrond itself.

NightKnight 02-28-2005 12:46 PM

*Bump*

Come on, someone should get it! :P

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-03-2005 09:04 PM

I will, then.

Celegorm.

NightKnight 03-04-2005 10:55 AM

Yeah.

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-07-2005 02:08 AM

Thank you.

Which rivers flow through Tavrobel?

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-17-2005 05:17 AM

*crickets a-courting*

Anyone? :(

It's found in HoME II and V.

Lindolirian 04-04-2005 08:13 PM

Gruir and Afros.

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-06-2005 05:09 AM

Correct!

Your go.

Lindolirian 04-08-2005 09:19 PM

Thank you!

Who was the nurse of Earendel?

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-10-2005 05:00 AM

Meleth?

Lindolirian 04-14-2005 08:52 PM

Whoops forgot the thread...

She's the one!

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-18-2005 10:58 PM

Forgot this one, too.

Which two Ainur were relegated to Maiarin status in the Published Silmarillion?

NightKnight 08-16-2005 09:15 AM

Oh dear, memory... Ossė is one, that's for sure. And the other one is... Wasn't Uinen a Vala in HoME?

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-16-2005 11:55 PM

Yesss!

Ossė and Uinen are the one I'm looking for!

Your thread, and welcome back! :D

NightKnight 08-17-2005 01:53 PM

Thankies. :D

Which elf's name is used as a battlecry among the elves?

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-17-2005 08:37 PM

"ECTHELION!"

NightKnight 08-18-2005 02:25 PM

Right!

*All orcs nearby pee in their pants*

Your go.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-21-2005 03:48 AM

Thanks!

Now, along with Glorfindel and Ecthelion, who was the third lord of Gondolin who accompanied Isfin when she left the Hidden City?
