Alternative Cast For Hobbits

I think PJ could have considered better the casts for the hobbits. Danny DeVito could have made an excellent Frodo. Weeman probably could have portrayed Pippin quite well. Maybe even Weeman or MiniMe could have appeared?

Nimrothiel 04-30-2004 07:20 AM

Danny Devito?! No offense, but are you nuts, or is this supposed to be funny? Wait, I forgot which Forum I was in for a second. :o But Danny Devito ?

Morsul the Dark 07-30-2004 09:08 PM

What about Swartzenagger as Frodo? :D

The Only Real Estel 07-31-2004 08:43 PM

I think Swartzenagger would fit in nicely as a big, buff Sam ;).

How about Frankie Munoz for Frodo?

Leondardo DeCaprio for Pippin?

And of course Michael J. Fox for Merry!

Morsul the Dark 08-12-2004 09:15 PM

Hugh Jackman as Frodo

Bill Engval-Merry

Jeff Foxworthy-Pippin

Cedric the Entertainer as Sam

You're not the only one who thinks Danny got snubbed.

I put forth the following suggestions in the "Cast the First Hobbit" thread:
Quote:

Bilbo: Vern Troyer
Gandalf: John Cleese
Oakenshield: Tim Curry (equipped with the accent he had in Congo)
Thranduil: Gene Hackman
The only reply I got was this:
Quote:

I'm sorry. I just don't see Vern Troyer as Bilbo. Though he is short, he simply doesn't personify the character for me. Oh well, to each his own.
Obvious, dripping sarcasm is all washed up, apparently.

I seriously cannot imagine anyone else playing these lovable characters. Personally, I think the casting for the Hobbits was perfect & nobody could've played these roles any better. Of course, I could be biased, because Sean Astin has always been one of my favorite actors. But really, I don't think any other actors could've pulled it off and made it as believable as these guys did.

Hookbill the Goomba 08-19-2004 12:12 PM

What about Brian Blessed as Sam? :p

Mithalwen 08-19-2004 12:59 PM

Oh thank you hookbill that has displaced my enduring mental image of Graham Norton Mister Frodoing...... Blessed Brian booming....

I would have liked Bill Nighy to reprise his role as Sam..... (BBC Radio Version) alongside the divine Hugh.... anti-typoe casting to have extremely tall thin hobbits!!!! lol and short fat elves.... yes.. Danny DeVito as Legolas

Hookbill the Goomba 08-19-2004 01:19 PM

I think that Brian Blessed would do well as a Dwarf, Thorin if The Hobbit ever comes to be. :smokin:
Perhaps Rowan Atkinson as Frodo! Now that would be cool!

Morsul the Dark 08-19-2004 02:31 PM

nah Rowan is more suited for Pippin
Cr. Sanders (the KFC guy) as Gandalf
the Taco Bell dog as Shadowfax
Silvester Stallone as Sam
and Stephan Hawking as Frodo

Hookbill the Goomba 08-19-2004 03:05 PM

What about;

Terry Jones (Of Monty Python fame) - Frodo
Michael Palin (Of Monty Python fame) - Sam
Chris Barrie (Of Red Dwarf fame) - Pippin
Craig Charles (Of Red Dwarf fame) - Merry
Bill Bailey (Of Black Books fame) - Gandaf
John Cleese (Of Monty Python fame) - Aragorn
Vic Reeves (Legend) - Legolas
Bob Mortimer (Legend) - Gimli
Dylan Moran (Of Black Books fame) - Boromir

Tom Baker (Of Doctor Who fame) - Elrond
Norman Lovett (Of Red Dward Fame) - Haldir
Danny John-Jules (Of Red Dwarf fame) - Saruman
Arnold Schwarzenegger (Legend) - Sauron
Jean-Claude Van Damme (legend) - Worm toung
Uma Thurman (of Kill Bill fame) - Eyowin
Chloë Annett (Of Red Dwarf fame) - Galadirel
Peter Davison (Of Doctor Who fame) - Theoden

Right I think that's almost every cult TV and Film that I'm interested in accounted for there.

Morsul the Dark 08-19-2004 03:10 PM

Gene Wilder(Wonka) Frodo

Wormtounge...oh man whats that guys name....high squaking voice...does the voice of iago in alladin and guest starred on Fairly Odd Parents as a dentist...anyone that can think of his name gets an awesome prize...

Melonwen 08-20-2004 03:23 PM

I get an awesome prize?

The annoying guy is named Gilbert Gottfried...he would make an interesting Wormtongue.

How about Clint Eastwood as Aragorn?

Tuor of Gondolin 09-09-2004 08:47 PM

Per Danny DeVito references above:

Taxi cast
Reverend Jim---Legolas
Louie DePalma---Gimli
Latka/Vegas Vic--Smeagol/Gollum (my favorite casting) :D
Alex---Aragorn
Tony (Danza)---Boromir
Nardo---Eowyn
Simka---Galadriel or Goldberry (picture Carol Kane in her role as one of the ghosts in the movie Scrooged)

Princess Bride cast
Gandalf---Miracle Max
Eomer---Inigo Montoya
Fezzik (Andre the Giant)---Treebeard
Saruman---Vizzini
Arwen---Princess Buttercup
Elrond---Peter Falk (the grandfather role)
Mouth of Sauron---Count Rugen
King of the Dead---Prince Humperdinck (well, they were both a bit
not overly brave)
Wormtongue---The albino

Orophin 09-10-2004 08:35 PM

I do think Billy Crystal could have maid an excellent Gandalf.

Gothbogg the Ripper 09-30-2004 03:37 AM

Here's my list, hate mail to the usual address please... :D
Frodo - Michael Jackson
Sam - Rupert Murdoch
Merry - Steven Segal
Pippin - The dog from Lassie
Gollum - Rolf Harris
Gandalf - The guy who got killed first in Alien

Zebedee 10-06-2004 07:50 PM

I think that I should have been cast as Frodo. Peter Jackson should have consulted me before he made his film!

Lachwen 10-07-2004 01:35 PM

Tuor, I can see it now: Éomer confronting Saruman and saying, "Hello. My name is Éomer son of Éomund. You killed my cousin. Prepare to die!" :D

Personally, I think that Patrick Stewart would have made a good Gandalf. In fact, we could do up a whole Next Generation casting with no trouble (tribble? ;) ) at all:

Gandalf - Captain Picard
Aragorn - Riker
Galadriel - Counselor Troi
Gimli - Worf
Elrond - Data
Frodo - Wesley Crusher
Sam - Jeordi
Merry - That guy who's always so nervous (what's his name again??)
Pippin - Alexander (Worf's son)
Boromir - Nameless Redshirt #37-J
Éowyn - Doctor Crusher
Saruman - Q

And if they ever do a live-action Hobbit, they have to (HAVE TO!!) get Brian Blessed as Thorin, John Rhys-Davies as Beorn (why pass up all that talent??) and Sean Connery as...some Dwarf, it doesn't matter which (perhaps Dáin), or maybe as Bard? And Christian Slater as Thranduil.
