Movie quotes vs. book quotes

Fortunately, many LotR quotes made it into the movie. However, some were moved to a different place or point of time, even to a different speaker. Let's find them!
Here's a starter:
The movie begins with:
"The world is changing: I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, and I smell it in the air." Who says it in the book and when?

Turambar 01-17-2002 11:42 AM

Does Sam say that, in Gorgoroth?

Estelyn Telcontar 01-17-2002 12:03 PM

No and no, Turambar - keep looking!

Elanor 01-17-2002 12:27 PM

That sounds like a Treebeard-ish thing to say...

Estelyn Telcontar 01-17-2002 12:38 PM

Yes, Elanor - now the situation/time, and you've got it!

Elanor 01-19-2002 11:16 AM

I've been looking for ages now and I can't find it If anyone else knows, please feel free to step in

Treebeard said it to Celeborn and Galadriel before they departed IsenGard at the breaking of the Fellowship in RotK.

Since you had the Treebeard first, you can post the next quote.

Ok, Thanks Elrian.

In the movie Galadriel says, "The task was appointed to you Frodo. If you do not find a way, no-one will." Who speaks these lines in the books?

Amaranth Sorrel 01-20-2002 12:23 PM

Elanor, didn't Elrond say that to him in the Council of Elrond?

Elanor 01-21-2002 07:15 AM

Absolutely right Amaranth, your turn.

Amaranth Sorrel 01-21-2002 07:22 AM

uh oh. my turn? i really can't think of a quote. well, i practically know the film script off by heart but its hard to match it to lines in the book... hmmm...
is it 'acceptable' to ask, what was the poem they missed out in the film, about Aragorn?
if thats NOT 'acceptable' then i'm sorry... my brains not working well...

Eowyn of Ithilien 01-21-2002 03:17 PM

all that is gold does not glitter...hope it's acceptable! lol

Amaranth Sorrel 01-21-2002 04:02 PM

Yeah, thats the first line... but what about the rest?

Gayalondiel 01-22-2002 10:05 AM

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost,
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not touched by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring,
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crwonless again shall be king.

I think that's pretty much word for word, but i don't have my copy here. it might be Darkness not Shadows in the 5th line.

Amaranth Sorrel 01-22-2002 10:08 AM

no, no, its shadows! the only mistake was 'crownless' but thats just a typo.
well done. your turn, Gayalondiel!

Gayalondiel 01-23-2002 09:49 AM

oh, crumbs

ok, how's this...
The rhyme that begins 'The Road goes ever on and on...' is in three forms in the books, 2 by bilbo and one by frodo. in the films someone bilbo sings it once, so does SOMEONE ELSE (not frodo)

who?

Estelyn Telcontar 01-23-2002 04:03 PM

Gandalf does!

Gayalondiel 01-24-2002 07:16 AM

wicked, well done. I wasn't sure if that was obvious, maybe i just wasn't paying enough attention first time round. I feel so ashamed...

ok, your turn
