More like an orgy if you look at the unfortunate vocab choice in posts 13-15:Merisu:

Mating unfortunate vocabulary choices with Elvish interaction begets innuendo.

Why have I not seen those posts before? :D

I might have managed to raise my mind were it not for the unfotunate conjunction with the reminder of Elros' ancestry; the impression that the Kings of Numenor were the result of a bit of R &R. on shoreleave with elves of negotiable virtue. Guess port cities are the same everywhere....

Morthoron 02-23-2014 09:24 AM

This is less a comment on "questionable thread titles" than on "questionable posters". As in, look at the bottom left of the screen where it says Welcome to our newest member.

I play a little game everytime I log into the Barrows: look at the newest member and ascertain, strictly by the name, how soon he or she shall be banned for spamming. My record for discerning such eventualities is very high.

Based on my assumptions, Carpinteyroyhh is not long for this Barrow.:D

So let us be proactive and lament the loss of Carpinteyroyhh and his Belizean time-share condo website. We hardly knew ye.

Edit: ROFLMAO! It was a spam in Pigeon French (or perhaps it is termed Franglais)!

Nerwen 03-31-2014 06:23 AM

I'm rather surprised to see elizabethnavel is still with us. Perhaps her doomed love-affair with Galin's haircut has touched the otherwise stony hearts of our moderators.

Galadriel55 04-24-2014 04:25 PM

what would possibly exist in the farthest east? fan fiction.

The Battle of the White Council-

....was a fabled conflict in ages past, in which The Barrow-Wight, Mister Underhill, and Mithadan strove for mastery of the Downs!
No wait, that was the Battle of the Wight Council. ;)

Some puns just never get old. ;) I'd rep this, but apparently I've repped you too recently...

I'm entirely too enamored of puns, but it's a hard Hobbit to break. ;)

None of this is personal! It's just people riffing on thread titles. It's all in fun.

how durin founded the longbeards:

He turned left at Gundabad, and there they were. :p

Gandalf and Pippin hung a right by Amon Dîn and "found" it. :p

Ach! I guess that just goes to show the repetitive tracks on which my mind runs.

Lotrelf 05-15-2014 07:13 PM

Why not start another thread about such Replies? Some weird and funny replies would be awesome and fun!

They aren't. It has drifted so even perfectly sensible thread titles get smart alecky comments  I have had sulky moments of thinking that there is nothing wrong with thread titles of my own creation, and that they aren't even questions... but try not to let it rankle. And please don't let it put you off posting.

Nerwen 05-21-2014 07:28 AM

More perfectly sensible threads...

who are the nazgul? –You know those guys in the cloaks? Them.

decent of house of hurin –Well, Faramir was okay...

What differentiates the Valar from the Maiar? –Isn’t it obvious? “Valar” has a “V” in it!

Did Tolkien even plan to fill in the other sections of Middle-earth? –Yes, but he ran out of crayons.

Galadriel55 06-19-2014 02:45 PM

How close is the published The Silmarillion to JRRT's Silmarillion? - Three letters away.

Galadriel55 06-21-2014 02:52 PM

What did the movies do for you? - they mopped the floors and washed the dishes

Inziladun 06-22-2014 02:10 PM

Did the Ring Shrink?

Yes, but only because Frodo left it in his pocket on laundry day.

 I was rereading this thread (better than any newspaper joke section!) and came across a nice little tidbit from myself that I had no memory of writing:

That reminds me of a very inappropriate thing I saw on tumblr which I post here severely tidied up (and will remove if there are objections to its existence):

All of the little deaths in fic are so violent. His little death came like a punch to the gut. It hit him like a mack truck. It knifed him in a freaking alley. What these little deaths need is a good education.
Quote:

the little death tapped him on the shoulder politely because it wasn’t raised in a barn

By the time he came back to himself, the little death had washed the dishes, vacuumed the living room, and retrieved his lost house key from under the chaise lounge.

What would they do? Jump on the bed and yell "ice cream"! What else would anyone do if the supervisor leaves you?

Inziladun 08-12-2014 05:28 PM

Farmer Maggot's Dogs

Weren't they a 90's thrash metal band? :p

Galadriel55 08-16-2014 04:28 PM

Will The Hobbit do damage to the books? - undoubtedly. The Hobbit will bend the spines and tear the pages.

Nerwen 08-17-2014 11:36 AM

What did the movies do for you? -Round here, it's more like "what did they do to you?"

Inziladun 09-03-2014 01:07 PM

Why did the Wise not bow to the Hobbits?

You try bowing to three-foot Hobbits when you're thousands of years old. Elrond hid his back troubles well. :D

Inziladun 09-18-2014 05:55 PM

Was the Balrog drawn by the ring?

If so, it was drawn as a cross between a Monarch Butterfly and an angry mutant lion. ;)

Galadriel55 10-19-2014 10:19 AM

Bit (too many) Coins - got a toothache?

Galadriel55 10-29-2014 07:02 PM

What did the movies do for you? - Ask not, what the movies did for you, but what you did for the movies!

(Or, as Nerwen accurately noted, it's more like what the movies did to you -- and therefore what you did to the movies? (Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew...))

----
Here's some more Movie forum bashing:

Skater Elf - newest version: Tauriel 3.0

Something Missing? - common sense, maybe?

PJ's "Galadriel the Wraith" - Ah, so that's the true identity of the Witch-king!

On a happy note: Arwen, Lothlorien, arrows, information, and little extras... - umm...

Are the movies a good or bad thing? - no comment

How are they going to piece 2 halves together? - use superglue.

Elrond the vampire - so Thuringwethil ain't a unique species anymore?

On witch sity did they do there best job? - Teh sity write thair. Can't yoo sea eat?

Peter Jackson post in the' Books' - blasphemy!

In response to Manwe's question... - oh, so now the King of the Valar seeks your opinion?

WARNING: Hugh Spoilers Ahead... - Hugh? Don't know him. But you really shouldn't spoil him so much.

Download the FOTR script - or what?

Sir Ian's "Grey Book" - "it was once red," says Sir Ian, "but I forget to clean it each time I drop it into a coal or chalk mine..."

The Arrogance of the Rings - those arrogant Rings! How dare they think so highly of themselves!

Should I bring a hankerchief? - please don't pull a Bilbo.

Which finger is the ring on? - no comment.

Who Do You Agree With? - nobody.

I need help with

Killing the Balrog..... - why are you looking at me? (for the record, at this moment these two threads appear right next to each other in this order on page 42 of the Movies forum. I thought the combination was too good to pass)

The spoilers are coming! The spoilers are coming! - Yeah yeah. Should we also brace ourselves?

Very Secret Diaries... - finally revealed!

Fat Sam in TTT - amazing weight loss in the duration of only one book!

The Weaknesses of Men...and Hobbits - women... and other hobbits.

FOTR - Chanting Wizards - too much pipe-weed.

Aragorn's Hair in RotK - the King of Gondor finally outdoes the Prince of Mirkwood

Galadriel55 10-30-2014 04:49 PM

Man, those movie threads really have a knack for questionable titles!

Who is more beautiful, Aragorn or Legolas? - the REAL battle of the Third Age!

If You Could Change The Script - I would dress Sauron in polka-dotted underwear.

I did not... - Oh yes you did!

Sauron speaks? - what, you didn't know many sentient beings can talk?

A Drinking Misconception - "Wait, you're actually a Dwarf?" says Legolas after his beer-party with Gimli in Rohan.

Anyone know where I can find pictures of Gildor? - under the pillows of his fangirls.

Rocks: The orcs' weakness. - hit them enough times and they die.

Does This Quote Mean Anything To You? - nope. Don't give two cents about it.

A New Elrond - made with 100% recycled material!

For anyone who's ever wanted a "Legolas Braid" - man, you're never gonna sell your product with this advertising!

PLZ HELP - ASSIGNMENT - TTT DVD Chapters

Help me!

HELP!!!!!!!!! - ok, calm down!

Where is the horse and the rider? - weren't they just there?

How many times should we cry (or want to) in RotK? - hmmm..., let's make it 3.14 times.

Did Gollum remind you of someone? - how about... Gollum?

What is with the silent Elf??? Silence???

Does Frodo Baggins have a wife or a girl friend? - no no, I was just wondering if the spot was vacant.

What disappointed you about The Two Towers? - erm, The Two Towers?

A Touching Thought... - how touching indeed.

Inziladun 11-30-2014 06:24 PM

Surely the Fellowship took the wrong route?

They didn't. And don't call me Shirley.
