ME Poetry, a feeble attempt

I thought I would share my latest attempt at ME poetry, I do apologise, it's nothing special but it's the first i've posted on here and starting a new thread will give all those "good" poets out there a chance to share their work too.

This one tells of the Legend of the Ring (now has second part thanks to study leave)------>

The Legend of the Ring

"Some time ago in a forgotten place
A dark lord dreamed to govern every race,
And in order to gain all his land
The dark lord created a golden band.

A Dwarven seven and Mortal nine
An Elven three with powers divine,
But twenty was the final score
One more was made tells ancient lore.

One ring to rule above all the rest
And put each creature to his test.

Until an alliance of elves and men
Came face to face with his dark ten,
Nine mortal men doomed to die
And the dark lord to rule them all on high.

The battle raged as they fell one by one
Until the dark lord's deed was done,
But men resisted and elves wouldn't fail
Middle Earth's fate upon one male.

Isildur raised his father's blade
And with that blow the rings power unmade,
Sauron defeated but spirit not gone
The legend of the ring would forever live on."

That was really good! I wanted to come to this topic cuz I love poetry, especially when people write it about LotR. I'm gonna post one of my poem's up later though, I don't have them with me now.

The Silver-shod Muse 06-17-2002 02:24 PM

So you're a poet, Gorothlammothiel? It's not an attempt at all! Excellent poem! Maybe I ought to post some of mine here. (I'm pretending to be a poet .)

Gorothlammothiel 06-17-2002 02:37 PM

Why thank you The Silver-shod Muse although i've heard an artisit never appreciates their own work

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-17-2002 02:56 PM

That was good! Well done.

Starbreeze 06-19-2002 12:06 PM

I write ME poetry too. Poets are underestimated, as I told Nazgul#10 in the Are You Writing Serious Fantasy thread.
I will rumage around and find my poetry for you - only one is worth reading though.

Starbreeze 06-19-2002 12:39 PM

Ok, got my attempt now.

Appeal to Mithrandir (Or Battle of the Pelennor Fields)

Once on clouded day of doom
There stood a host of mighty men
Upon the battlements they stood prepared,
There to win, or die, or lose,
To fight the orcs of Sauron's hoard.
In one lone man they placed their faith

In Mithrandir, wise Mithrandir,
Did dwell within the Tower,
Their doom drew near with every hour,
And in each heart lay mighty fear
As the orc host drew ever near.
Oh Mithrandir, Great Mithrandir!

A cloud there grew, high over head,
And men began to flee the tower
Afeared they were of Sauron's power.
From the darkened sky, nine shapes,
They were espied and with deaf'ning
Screeh their blood lust cried.

Great Mithrandir, Oh Gandalf White!
We need your rescue from our plight,
Our end draws near with each drum beat.
The sky is dark, the ground is red.
Some rumours say Faramir is dead.
Come Mithrandir, wise Mithrandir!

i got some poems for u lot.Iv got alot on fanfiction.net....anyway!Here goes!

Elven City
By Rosa

Evil is dark
as good is light
shadowed truth
of second night.
Flames of red
arise black smoke
inspired dreams
and blemished hope.
Twinkleing sparks
of silver star
rolling hills
and mountains far.
The green of leaves
and whipping vines
towering trees
sun that shines.
Under sky
of lightened blue
dwelling for elves
wise and true.
Towers of gems
and homes of white
weapons of silver
for freedom they fight.
Covered by trees
and none do pity
the mystery of
an Elven City.

Never a rose
without thorns
By Rosa

There is never a rose now with no thorns,
a death is followed by one who mourns.
The sky above is always blue,
the stars aat night are shining too.
Sun by day shall always shine,
the truth and love in heart thats mine.
My crystal water is ever clear,
my faceing evil in mind theres fear.
Life at night is same by day,
in the end enemy shall pay.
Dark sky in light shall change its hue,
the light shall shine in darkness though.
My heart in love is ever torn,
There is never a rose now with no thorn.

********************************************
I feel and I see
By Rosa

I feel the wind though the branches blew,
I see the leaves of gold they grew.
Beyond the sun and waves of midnight sea,
the enemy of the good shall flee.
Beneath the stars that mid-eve brought,
the hearts of many now love is sought.
On the day falls many tears,
my eyes of green do see the years.
O Ulmo!When your waves are clear by day,
when ships are sailed on your sea away.
O Ulmo!when i see the waves at night
when birds in air away take flight
The race of Elves do journey far,
under moon,sun and star.

Thats really good Ms Baggins! I especially like the first one - Elven City - it has a positive rhythm and the words are perfect.

Rosa_Baggins 06-22-2002 02:23 PM

Thanks starbreeze!That one is my best one iv done and it took me ages to do that.You know, trecking though the internet trying to find ideas and inspiration for it.The words to it to without making it like the poems i got my ideas from.Hard work and i love it!
Your poem is good to, starbreeze.Got anymore i could read?
Ill let u in to one of my secrets Collect rhyming words like light,flight,fight,bright and might etc.Then when it comes to doing the poem all you have to do is makeup the sentence with the word at the end!!Good innit!!

What's not to like Rosa? They are really very good and don't deserve to be on this thread titled "A feeble attempt".

Samwise 06-25-2002 04:51 PM

Gorothlammothiel, that was supposed to be feeble? This li'l hobbit liked it!
I've got only one ME/LOTR poem written, but won't bore you folks with it 'cause it's been posted in forums one or two times at least already and won't bore you with it again.

Talking Hawk 06-25-2002 05:12 PM

Pardon me if I'm sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, but I was just browsing around and I came across this thread. Gorothlammothiel, that is a lovely poem, and sounds like Tolkien wrote it himself. Well, except for the "crack" line. The following "back" one sounds a bit odd to me too, but no matter... I personally really liked it. =)

Gorothlammothiel 06-26-2002 07:29 AM

Why thank you Talking Hawk for the compliment and constructive criticisms Much appreciated, and you Samwise, i'm glad it pleases Hobbits

Pallando 06-26-2002 09:12 AM

I'd like to say to Starbreeze, Rosa_Baggins, and Goth. are really good poets. Keep up the good work!

I akso would like to include some of my own poetry, yet ai!, it's not finish. I'm still working on it. Hope you like it!

One Ring

One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them.

Wrought long ago,
Ere the Elves left in woe,
And the Men were hard and bleak,
The Dark Lord got off his throne,
And made his ring,
In the Fires of Mount Doom.

Inscription, on it made,
Out of heat, it doth fade,
And thus it reads in Common Tounge:
One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the Darkness bind them.

Sliced off Sauron's hand-
Isuldur’s command,
Thus He was thought to be destroyed.
Elrond bade the victor to cast the Ring
Into the Cracks of Doom,
But alas, to our fate,
Isuldur kept the Ring,
Which soon was his bane.

It waited in Aduin,
And in time, not too soon,
Was found by Deagol,
Who was killed by his friend,
Smëagol, who in the end,
Was corrupted by the Ring.

In the Misty Mountains cold,
For many years, so I'm told,
So long it had stayed
With Gollum, it couldn't wait
To finally be gone.
So it went upon the shore.

Then one day,
It was taken away,
By a Hobbit called Bilbo
He took the Ring,
And returned to his quest.
With the aid of the Ring,
Erebor was freed of Smaug.
He went back to Bag End, within the Shire,
And the Ring passed unto Frodo.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Here's a Haiku!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A simple Hobbit,
Forced to bear a great burden,
Frodo and the Ring.
Eh... - _,-;; Sorry for misspelling your name, Gorothlammothiel.... - _,-;;
Gorothlammothiel 06-26-2002 12:58 PM
lol, not to worry
Starbreeze 06-26-2002 02:43 PM
I must say - all the poetry here is really good. Prehaps we should all get together and make a compilation of ME poems?
Gorothlammothiel 06-26-2002 02:46 PM
Great Idea Starbreeze, a Middle Earth Anthology I know Samwise writes well although not posted on here...
I've never tried a ME Haiku before, i'll give it a go and see what I can come up with (i may not post it on here if it's bad)
I must admit, I haven't treid writing a haiku before either - or any sort of short poetry. Hehe, I might try my hand at a ME limerick...
I like that one Samwise, very good, especially the last line.
We will meet
By
Rosa
Around the land that
we will meet,
and now you stand on
weary feet.
Upon my ground as
hard as stone,
that none shall see
but me alone.
Over hill and mountain
I may wait,
you shall be with the
help of fate.
Take my secret
paths that run,
towards the sea, moon
and sun.
Many strange creatures
do live and dwell,
in the lands that
evil fell.
Home behind and
world ahead,
on the paths that
no one tread.
Cannot be wounded by dagger or knife,
Can burn, can scolder, can soothe, can kill,
Can be found in forest, wood and hill,
Dies in sun but lives quit near,
Can show with that of just a tear.
Galadel Vinorel 08-15-2002 01:08 PM
Well, I am going to add a really bad attempt of my own poetry to your all's magnificent peices. Here it goes- **blushes and begins to chant**
****
In a stone hall lies a King,
Beyond all others,
And there he sleeps a dreamless sleep,
A sleep with no awakenings.
In that hall sleeps Fathers, Sons, Servants, Kings,
And there lies a Treasure greater than gold and silver,
The heir of great Kings,
The Hope of a fallen race.
A star that fell from the sky,
Onto a land that once was fair,
A land where Kings were once born,
Where the streets were once full of children laughing and playing.
The King of the Tower came with hope,
And healed his people of their lowliness,
He brought Light into Darkness,
And laughter and beauty back to his land.
None shall ever equal this King,
Nor shall anyone ever shine with glory as bright as he shone on the day that he was crowned,
None will ever be as great as the now fallen King,
Nor shall any ever come that can outmatch the dead King, Elssar, the Elf-Stone of Gondor.
****
**stops chanting and blushes some more**
**smiles at everyone and leaves the topic room**
Starbreeze 08-15-2002 01:48 PM
Galadel, that was very good. Like so many good poets you underestimate your work - keep it up, you got any more hidden away?
Galadel Vinorel 08-15-2002 01:52 PM
**smiles at Starbreeze and blushes**
Why thank you very much, Starbreeze. That is very kind of you to say. I have a few more. I'll post them a bit later on, though.
Gorothlammothiel 08-16-2002 03:14 PM
I agree with Starbreeze, that was exremely good Galadel.
I think we will have to work on our Anthology idea, maybe start another thread titled "An ME Anthology" so poems can be posted there with a link to here so people can comment on the poems without disrupting the consistancy of the works in that thread? Humm, well it could work, let me know what you think...
Galadel Vinorel 08-16-2002 09:05 PM
Not a bad idea idea. Yeah, it might work. Try it,if you want to.
Starbreeze 08-17-2002 10:42 AM
Good idea Goroth! It would be great to have an 'unofficial LotR anthology'. Prehaps it could even get published...
