Boston Downers

I hope this won't give away information that Downers don't want posted, but I thought I'd let others here know, in case you are wondering, that the Downers who live in Boston have reported that they are well and away from the scene of the bombing at the Boston Marathon today.

Well, at least the four who answered roll call on Facebook: Formendacil and Nienna, Boromir88, and Celuien. Celuien is an MD but she is not at a hospital where the major traumas would have been taken.

Sometimes Mordor can seem very close. :(

It is especially relieving after a tragedy to find out that friends and loved ones are safe. I, for one, am relieved that our friends were not injured.

The friend that my mother and I spent the day with had a God-daughter running in the race today, and she was lucky too that she was not hurt. My prayers go out to the families that were affected by this terrible thing.

Human nature to worry about those you know while remembering that for other friend and family groups thise is a terrible day. Huge blessing of internet that having happened to be online as i heard the news was able to get reassurance that they were ok as quickly as if I were on the same side of the atlantic.

Yes, the Facebook Barrow Downs group is great for that immediate connection. But not everyone here on the forum is with us on FB.

Passing on a very apt Tolkien quote, from one Peter Kenny in Australia.

Oh well I am not on the Downs FB group. I just happen to know some Downers on FB.

Indeed! And it could have been someone you know. My classmate has family friends in Boston who watched the marathon. People I know could have been there just as easily.
