The Name Game
Okay here's how it works. You give an alternate name for a character and the rest of us half to geuss his more common name such as this easy one. Q:Who is Mithrandir? A: Gandolf the Grey. Well i'll start of and hope some others try it. Who was known as Camlost?

Beren? I'm new to Tolkien, so if I'm wrong, and that's a stupid answer, that's why.
Arwen |
Maybe you are new to Tolkien, Arwen, (so am I,) but I get the same result. I too think it's Beren - Túroch?
Quite correct Arwen1858. The right answer is Beren. Camlost means empty handed. The elves called him that after he cam before Thingol without a Silmaril. You ask one now.
I'm not sure how hard of a question this is for those of you who have been reading Tolkien for years, but here goes... Who was Alatáriel, and for extra points, who gave this person that name?
Alatariel was Galadriel, and is an ancient name, but I dunno who gave it to her. Do I still get the points?
Right then, new question. If I were to wish you a good "loa", what race would I be and what on earth would I be talking about?
uh, hate to burst your bubble, but when I posted, I was posting my answer which came seconds after yours. When I found you had posted first, I deleted my post so as to not take up room. But you must have thought it to be a confirmation, however I did not ask the question, so I cannot conform it. We usually wait for the asker to confirm. BTW, Welcome to the Downs!!!
Yes, it is Galadriel. The name Alatáriel was given to her by Celeborn. Your turn now, tom bombariffic! Oh, welcome to the Downs and have fun being dead!!
Arwen, Queen of Gondor |
sorry guys, way to make the new guy feel bad! there was a thingy from arwen saying I was correct, so I wrote a new question, and then when I looked her conformation had gone. Sorry anyway though. can you answer the question?
just to clarify this, the question I asked at the wrong time was: If I were to wish you a good "loa", what race would I be and what on earth would I be talking about?
good luck and I hope I havent ****ed off too many people |
Loa? I'm not sure but doesn't Loa mean one year in elvish?
Congrats, that is correct! well, now you can write your question. make it a good one
Bombariffic |
Well since I did one just a little while ago i'll let someone else have a go if they will.
Oh and i'm not sure that the Loa question is a good name question. I'm more looking for names of people not exactly things. |
okiedokie, ill submit a question if nobody else will: if i were looking for Orald who would i be looking for, and, for a bonus, who calls him/her this?
Orald was my namesake's name to men of the north
Bombariffic |
thats absolutely right, i suppose if anyone was going to get it it would be you Bomberiffic! ok, someone else ask a question...
Which friend and Companion of Celegorm's finally abandoned him after his cruelty in Nargothrond?
ok sorry that wasnt a name question, I'll think of another. Sorry bout that (the answer was Huan)
OK, can anyone tell me who aiwendil is, and for extra points which race he/she might be associated with? (apart from his own)
Aiwendil was the original name of the Istari later known as Radagast the Brown.
Who was known as The Tall? |
Well there are several elves know as "the tall" Maedhros for instance...
Bit there was one man that was know as "The tall" Elindil the Tall father of Isildu and Anarion |
Galdor the Tall, but then i think there were a lot of people called "the Tall", but I read about him in the Sil today and it just stuck in my mind for some reason.
Sorry to step out of line Lindolirian but it's been about 2 weeks since you posted last and i've got a really good one. So here goes:
Who was known as "Star of Radiance". For extra brownie points who was Called "Star of Hope". |
uhhh.....aragorn?thats wrong isnt it/
Star of Radiance... could be aragorn but I'll have to research it.
No it's not Aragorn, but i'll give you a hint this elf is was a high king. The first one at least.
umm... Gil-galad? I haven't read the Sil...
Fingolfin was the first High King of the Noldor...just a guess though.
Congratz TolkienGurl a capital guess. You are correct Gil-galad means "Star of Radiance" Gil-Estel means "Star of Hope" and is the Sindarin name for Eärendil. Well the balls in your court now.
Who was called Grey-cloak? (it's not who you think it is )
Thingol: it means 'grey-cloak' or 'grey-mantle'

Great job! You may go now.
I thought that one would at least be a little hard... Oh well! *mumbles to self* |
Ok then, who is called Forn, and who by?
Just off the top of my head.....is it Orome when he meets the elves?
No....didn't think so! |
No, sorry the real findorfin, that isn't right
Its Tom Bombadil! by the Dwarves
(I looked it up) he says looking smug. (Can I go, cos I'm sure it is)Who was called 'Un-named [ December 08, 2002: Message edited by: the real findorfin ] |
Give a Hint!
Well, what kind of people usually have unmentinable names, etc.
Think and you'll get it! |
Then would it be Melkor?
