Frodo was the only one to carry the ring... nyah!

Elenya 05-20-2002 07:42 PM

Middle-Earth to Cim, it's your turn!

Arwen Imladris 05-27-2002 04:01 PM

O.K. No one has done anything in a while so:

Gollum
Galadriel
Shagrat
Elrond

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-27-2002 06:52 PM

All of them have rings, or in Gollum's case, carried one, for a loooong time.

Elrond-Vilya
Galadriel-Nelya or Nenya (I already forget!)
Gollum-the One ring (that is, did have the one ring)

And Shagrat is left out

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-27-2002 06:55 PM

If I get it right, then here's my post:

Elrond
Earendil
Galadriel
Dior

Joy 05-28-2002 02:28 AM

I say the last one is Galadriel. She is the only one that was not Half-Elven. Also, she was the only Calquendi, those that had seen the Light of the Two Trees.

Cimmerian 05-28-2002 03:11 AM

Well a waited for approval a day of two and gave up. So now other s pip me to my post... grrrahhh.

Here's the Line up -

Aragorn
Boromir
Eomer
Faramir

Lothiriel Silmarian, you are very impatiant, but also correct.

Cimmerian

Boromir because he is the only one who was never a stward or king.
Eomer was the only one with blond hair? (in book)
Aragorn the only one without blond hair (in movie)
Eomer the only one not from Gondor
Eomer the only one with a sister.

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-28-2002 02:07 PM

sorry....

Cimmerian 05-29-2002 02:26 AM

Very good options, ArwenImaladris but not what I had in mind... keep trying. Hint - think nubile.

Arwen Imladris 05-29-2002 02:31 PM

what does Nubile mean??

Elenya 05-29-2002 04:20 PM

Well, nubile means 'of a marriagable condition", (thank you Webster's), so I'm gonna say that it's Boromir, 'cause he was the only one who didn't get married, poor guy. Aragorn=Arwen Faramir=Eowyn Eomer=Lothiriel Boromir=no one

Turambar 05-29-2002 07:37 PM

Elenya - you should check out the "Odd Man Out" thread (hint hint).

Elenya 05-30-2002 03:38 PM

Alrighty then!

Belladonna Baggins

Bell Gamgee

Menegilda Brandybuck

Lily Cotton

Elenya 06-01-2002 12:38 PM

Here's a hint, it has something to do with their names!

Arwen Imladris 06-04-2002 02:06 PM

Belladonna Baggins
Bell Gamgee
Menegilda Brandybuck
Lily Cotton

Menegilda Brandybuck: the only one who wouldn't have lived in Hobbiton?
Lily Cotton: The only one without a B in their name?

Elenya 06-04-2002 02:47 PM

Those are good guessses, but no. Another hint: It has something to do with other people.

Joy 06-04-2002 08:58 PM

Lily Cotton, the other's sons were a part of the Fellowship.

The Laurenendorian 06-06-2002 04:55 AM

But Bilbo and Saradoc weren't part of the fellowship.

Perhaps Belladonna was the only one to have come from a rich and famous family of Hobbits? I can't remember any other references to the Goolds, Goodchilds, or Browns.

Better idea: Bungo was the only one of their Husbands not to appear in LR. This still points to the former miss Took, but gives a more positive connexion between the others.

Elenya 06-06-2002 03:04 PM

Lauren, you've almost got it!!!

Laurelin 06-11-2002 09:34 AM

Oh oh oh, I've got it!!

Belladonna Baggins was the only one to hold Took as her pre-marriage surname!

Elenya 06-11-2002 11:13 AM

Very good! I'll admit, I made that one a bit harder than it needed to be!

The Laurenendorian 06-15-2002 10:11 AM

I don't quite see how that makes her the odd one out. Couldn't you equally well claim that it was Menegilda, because she was the one with the maiden name 'Goold'? (Or in the same way, either of the others?)

Legolas 06-15-2002 10:17 AM

That is the case with all odd-man-out threads. There are usually a number of possibilities...you have to come up with the one that the person was thinking of. It just adds to the challenge.

Arwen Imladris 06-26-2002 03:50 PM

Laurelin? It is your turn!

Arwen Imladris 06-27-2002 03:55 PM

Well, I am impatient! Oh well, if someone else wants to go they can, but, to keep this thread going:

What doesn't Belong:

Aiwendil
Alatar
Adrahil
Pallando
Curunir

Lindolirian 06-27-2002 11:55 PM

Adrahil is the only one who is not of the Heren Istarion or the Order of the Wizards.

Arwen Imladris 06-29-2002 07:27 PM

Yup! Your turn!

Lindolirian 06-30-2002 04:28 PM

Hmm i dunno if this one's okay, but here goes.

Pippin
Barrow Wight
Lindir
Tom Bombadil

Lush 06-30-2002 04:31 PM

Lindir was the only one who never set foot in to the Barrow-Downs? Or are you looking for something more complex than that?

Lindolirian 06-30-2002 04:40 PM

Gee, I hadn't thought of that, but no.
You could add Glorfindel to the list if that might make it easier.

Lush 06-30-2002 04:52 PM

Lindir/Glorfindel is the only one who lives in Rivendell? While the rest live...uh...outside of Rivendell? But wait, that wouldn't fit into the rules of the game, now would it? So it's obviously something else...Drat.
By adding Glofindel to the list, do you mean adding him to replace Lindir, or adding him in general to the rest of the names?

Lindolirian 06-30-2002 04:53 PM

He was added to the list. Lindir is still on it. It doesn't have much to do with the books. Think outside of the book.

Lush 06-30-2002 04:56 PM

Got'cha! Pippin was the only character included in the MOVIE!!! Man, am I having a day of consistent stupidity, or what?

Lindolirian 06-30-2002 04:58 PM

Correct Lush. Good Job.

Lush 06-30-2002 05:03 PM

Alright then, for my turn (and I think this one is somewhat easy):

Beren
Frodo
Elrond
Éowyn

Which one doesn't belong?

Lindolirian 06-30-2002 05:05 PM

Frodo was the only one to not marry.

Lush 06-30-2002 05:08 PM

Ooh, you're absolutely right, but it wasn't what I was thinking of. Think of actions preformed.

Lindolirian 06-30-2002 05:10 PM

Eowyn has never been into an Enemy kingdom. Beren was in Angband and Frodo and Elrond were in Mordor.

Lush 06-30-2002 05:15 PM

You know, you're sort of on the right track, but it's a little less complex than that. The thing I'm looking for relates directly to plot, and is an action that was preformed by three of the four names. It's actually really easy once you think of all the smart things each character has done. You could call this thing a tactic.
