Since it's been requested a couple of times of me now, thought I'd post a list of special characters.

Press and hold down the ALT key while typing the four number code on your NUMPAD, then release ALT.

Well, I never knew that. If I wished to add accents I just cut-an'-pasted them in from Word... this should be quicker.

BTW I'd like one of those preinter friendly versions... email me at gwindlord@yahoo.com.

Hmm... I'm just using a standard Windows-PC English character set. Something may be different for you, HI, if you're using a different language coding or something. Try experimenting with different codes to see if you can turn anything up. Just use the same procedure: ALT + a four digit code. The first number is always 0. Good luck. <img src=ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

Re: Special character codes

You're welcome.

Hey, BTW, can you guys send me private messages through the board here (by clicking on my name at the left)? I have my &quot;Accept Private Messages&quot; clicked in my account options, but I can't see the usual little envelope on my own profile. I went around with ezboard tech support a few times, and they assure me that others can see it and send me messages.

Anyone?

Re: Special character codes

réd, you have clearly mastered the accent, the umlaut, and all other special pronunciation marks with your usual adroitness and aplomb. I salute you!

Fëanor and Elendil, it occurred to me that if you came into the chat room via the BD site vs. using mIRC, that might be the problem. This trick might not work in the applet. The best fix in that case is to download mIRC -- it's much better than the applet anyway. Or you could check your browser settings like HI talks about above to make sure they're right (i.e., View menu &gt; Encoding &gt; = Western European (Windows)). I'm out of ideas after that.

réd, you can even use these to show your mood:

réd - the kind, sweet elvish red we all know and love
rëd - for when you're feeling dwarvish -- all stubborn and grumpy
rêd - the evil red who lives in Barad-dûr

<img src=smile.gif ALT=":)">

Let me rephrase...

I only meant 'evil' in the most lovably adorable kind of way. As in &quot; That réd, what a rascal!&quot; or &quot; She's such a scamp!&quot; <img src=biggrin.gif ALT=":D">

P.S., thanks for helping me out with that message, HI.

Glad to oblige. I recommend to all scanning the back pages [archives] for an overview [ and to keep from getting your posts answered w/ groans and sighs [it happens!]]

Ron , what do you think of linking some of the encyclopedia entries w/ relevant old [they could be licked?] threads ? I will post it as it's own thread if you don't see it all -although I get the feeling you are always watching over your domain!

Lindil is often found on posting on the New Silmarillion Canon Forum at the Barrowdowns discussion board. 'The dwindling Men of the West would often sit up late into the night, and awaken early before dawn- exchanging lore and wisdom such as they possessed , so that they should not fall back into the mean and low estate of those , who never knew or more sadly still, had indeed rebelled against the Light.' </p>

lindil, I think it would be a nice idea to point people from the Encyclopedia to discussions. But first I need to get the definitions written. And I am soooooo behind in doing that.

I was thinking of links for the entries that were completed.
But as I have abosolutely no idea of what is involved w/ such links ,or wether you meant do all entries first, I will be quiet .

I have been unable to ascertain whether there is an entry for green elves or laiquendi/nandor etc. as I have not been able to acess the Encyc.
prob. just a Mac and or netscape thing , both have been very tempermental been lately.

I will try again.
