Secrets

Hi! I know this doesn't have too much to do w/ LotR, but I was wondering what kind of people use this forum. I wonder if some people could write their age and gender to see how well I relate to you guys . I'll start:

Girl-17

Mereth'iel 02-10-2002 01:23 PM

Well, I'll just say female & waaaaaaaayy older! lol (I'm 41).

Be well,
Mereth'iel

The Barrow-Wight 02-10-2002 01:31 PM

People are always curious about this, and some people get upset by the question, but I think its fair to know who you're dealing with. So, i'll answer.

I'm male and 36. Discovered Tolkien at 14.

Ithilwen 02-10-2002 03:16 PM

Can't imagine why you'd want to know, but I'm willing to satisfy your curiosity. I'm female, age 39.

Aralaithiel 02-10-2002 04:05 PM

OK...I am a she-elf, age 3017.

The Barrow-Wight 02-10-2002 04:27 PM

Hama 02-11-2002 02:30 AM

Mmmmm, seem to be in a mid-range age all on my own at the moment:

Male 26

Elven Maiden, I can imagine why you'd want to ask this question, but personally I don't think it matters too much. That's the good thing about these kinds of places: you can relate to others using the things you have in common (i.e. Tolkien here) without having to get over the usual barriers that might stop you meeting these people in the real world... I think the mix of ages you get on this board is a good thing: adds perspective!

Besides, it says something for the maturity of this place that it is difficult to guess most people's ages - a couple of times I've been surprised by people I assumed were adults turning out to be youngsters. I think that's a good thing.

How about you? What's your take on this subject? Will you still be talking to us now that half of us are twice your age?

I'm female, and 19.

Glenethor 02-11-2002 04:32 AM

Um, just decided to remain an International Man of Mystery. For now. All I will say is that the two words that best describe me are the two words used in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in reference to Earth.

Bad Fairy 02-11-2002 05:51 AM

Female 28

Yaish 02-11-2002 06:24 AM

Male, 25, and new to Tolkien.

I just started reading this summer because I knew the movies were coming out, and I know how much better books usually are than movies. Also, many of my favorite books are written in a Tolkien style, so I figured I should read the guy who started it all.

Hmm... lots of girls around the age I like too... Anyone from NC or Ca?

Estelyn Telcontar 02-11-2002 07:21 AM

Well, Glen, if you really want to remain mysterious, watch out what you post on other threads! If you were about 18 when Bakshi's movie came out, it doesn't take higher mathematic proficiency to put your age at approximately - well, a number which is very important in Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide!
That just strengthens my resolve to post absolutely nothing on this site that gives anyone a clue to my age!!

Glenethor 02-11-2002 08:15 AM

LOL! Slaps forehead!DOH!

I guess I may as well say that I am a male too. I better go edit that out before everyone wakes up!

LOL! Glenethor is appropriate, as it appears I am in my dotage!

I haven't been busted that badly for a while!
=============================
My love of the Halflings' Leaf has clearly slowed my mind!

LOL!

Glenethor 02-11-2002 08:18 AM

And I won't be 42 until May!!!

Still LOL!

Mithadan 02-11-2002 08:19 AM

Inziladun 02-11-2002 08:28 AM

Niphredil Baggins 02-11-2002 10:05 AM

Androndo, it says here you are a Haunting Spirit. That means dead. Get it? Deader than me , in fact.

I'm female and 20, but it must be hobbit years, given my behavior...

Elven-Maiden 02-11-2002 04:03 PM

Wow! Thank you all for replying so fast! I only posted this yesterday! It's amazing to see the variety of ages here. Everyone seems so mature, and knows so much about Tolkien and his books. I'm really glad to be a part of this!

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-11-2002 04:22 PM

Aprylien 02-11-2002 04:30 PM

Glad I found this thread. I just posted the same question on my "introductory" post.

Female elf with hobbit tendencies...

Dunland!!!
That's right, Forgoil grrrr Wild Man here!

Samwise 02-11-2002 04:57 PM

Goodness, where do I start.....
31,female.
Saw the cartoon "The Hobbit" at about 6.
At about 12, had the book "The Two Towers" left in my lap when the bell rang and the friend who'd gotten it in the school library took off, so I read it...then I figured I'd better begin at the beginning...
Said friend said that she and a freind in her "old neighborhood" had taken on roles of the characters, my friend was Merry, her old friend Pippin. After little thought, I became Sam. He was near and dear to my heart then and he still is.
A moment that makes me chuckle: My friend "Merry" once said: "I've got to go over to the cafeteria." and headed off. Not being told not to, I followed. She turned to me and said, "Hm. Maybe I ought to be Frodo, too, 'cause you seem to keep wanting to follow me around! "
There. Secret shared.

Sam Gamgee
