** Signatures **
One of the new policies announced last week was a limit on signature length. The result has been to make the Downs much more clean and readable. Many thanks to those of you who have helped us out in this effort by trimming yours down to size!
There are, however, still a few stragglers around. We’ve been handing out warnings all week, but this post is to serve notice that the grace period is over. If you still have an overly long sig, it could be cut down without warning by an admin. Thanks, The Barrow-Downs Team |
i would just like to say i loved the idea of disallowing images. after all, we are here to talk tolkien, not show off some flashy pictures.
(edit) oh god, the irony! [ November 19, 2002: Message edited by: NazgulNumberTen ] |
A reminder. Keep 'em short and sweet, folks. Three lines or less. Don't be a repeat offender or you may find yourself locked out of your profile.
|
I cut mine down to one short line, and stopped posting so much. Hope I helped Mr. U!
|
I cut my signature down, and it's exactly three lines long. Go me!
|
As soon as I read this thread I got extremely scared and cut down my 4-line signature to 2 lines. I still see a lot of really long signatures out there, and it annoys because the owners of the long signatures obviously didn't read this and get scared like me... I don't like being the only one afraid of something
And Nev.. uh.. your signature is one and a half lines long... ah well, maybe you mean it's three lines on the thing where you type it in? |
Yes, that's what I meant.
|
mine was already short, so i'm not scared at all.
|
Thanks again to everyone who has helped us with this policy.
BTW, there's no need to be scared. It's only fair to the people who have voluntarily shortened their sigs that we enforce this policy on others who are not paying attention, are being stubborn, or both. If we have to go to a member's profile to delete a long-winded sig, then that member goes back and puts in a second long-winded sig, we'll probably be inclined to lock that profile to save a third trip, is all. |
I do appreciate this new policy and everyone cutting down their signatures. This whole summer, I have been obliged to use some extremely slow computers, so the glut of images in everyone's signatures made it hard for me to stay in touch.

Unstickying.

My signature is 3.1 lines. Is that alright?

...which prods me to edit my sig poem...sorry mr. h, and thanks herenistarion for the inadvertent bzzzzt....
|
Hehe! I like my sig, it's nice and short. I'm sure there's no problems with it.
|
I like my Signature just how it is and I'm glad to see some people cutting theirs down.
My computer is slow at the best of times but it's even slower if there's a whole page of signatures to show as well as what I want to look at. So thanks for cutting them down a bit! |
I'm gonna sticky this for a while.
|
Um. what with new VBulletin Gold 3.0 and things, is this particular restriction still in force?
thanks |
Mine's v. tiny anyway. But v. cool, as it's in v. unintelligible Latin
|
What does it actually mean?

i don't really think it matters anymore seeing how the boards have been upgraded time and time again

But it's more polite to keep your siggy short so it doesn't cause annoying breaks in the flow of a thread.
|
My curiosity concerns versified signatures mainly. The poem may be 'sweet and short', but still extend for more than three lines.
|
"Postatem obscuri lateris nescitis"
should really be "Potestatem obscuri lateris nescitis" "You do not know the power of the Dark Side." |
Pio, I must admit I don't follow you. You mean? :)
|
Oh - sorry! Late night at work and my mind is rambling.
It was post # 19 E. Fester's sig; I just corrected/translated it. |
Ah, I see. thanks for clearing that up
I was looking inside the posts, and when left with nothing, assumed you proclaimed my curiosity to be the way to the dark side ... (not that one may not be occasionally). That occurrence proves signatures do not 'break the flow of posts' - I did overlook one in question :). |
