And send my regards to your poor little brother
heh heh heh...

ok, ermm... an easy one cos i can't think of anything else, these are difficult!

Quote:

Faramir! Faramir!

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-05-2002 08:14 AM

The first time it was 'men' that cried it, when 'they' bore him into Minas Tirith...

I can't find the second... :-(

--- This was an officially help to all others ;-) ---

Narya 02-05-2002 09:20 AM

Maybe the second time is just Pippin shouting "Faramir!Faramir!" with the people of Minas Tirith.?

Gayalondiel 02-05-2002 09:23 AM

That's where I have it, you have the crowd shouting it THEN you have Pippin joining in with the crowd, as a main character i counted him separate. Sorry if it confused...

Fight it out between yourselves who gets to post next

Narya 02-05-2002 09:46 AM

hmmm.. i think I have a quote.
If you don´t mind Androndo, I´ll ask it

BtW:When Faramir comes to Minas Tirith after he has escaped from the Nazgul they shout "Faramir" but also when he is nearly dead and carried into the town the people cry and say his name...

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-05-2002 10:15 AM

I don't have any... you go Narya...

Narya 02-05-2002 10:33 AM

Okay..
Here´s it:
"My precious."
It is said by two people and well ... i think you should have guessed the first one already

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-05-2002 10:48 AM

Gollum and Bilbo...

Narya 02-05-2002 11:08 AM

Yes, exactly
I first though it would be a bit more difficult

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-06-2002 08:22 AM

I have learned someting: Only post a reply if you can make a ney question

so - if anyone has a copy-cat quote fell free to post - i simply can't come up with something...

Lostgaeriel 02-06-2002 09:38 PM

OK. I've got a few waiting to post. How about this one? (Easy - find one instance and you've found both.)

Quote:

...Aragorn comes into his own...

Bruce MacCulloch 02-07-2002 12:19 AM

No way! I had a bad enough time finding a question last time, I'm not falling for that trick again!

Bruce MacCulloch 02-09-2002 11:48 PM

Gimli to Legolas and Legolas to Gimli, in Minas Tirith after the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, discussing the improvements that each of their peoples can make to Minas Tirith.

Elendur 02-12-2002 11:49 PM

Who were the two people who said this quote:

Quote:

How the wind howls!

Bruce MacCulloch 02-12-2002 11:51 PM

Elendur - it wasn't your turn. I was waiting for Lostgariel to acknowledge my answer before asking the next question.
And to answer your question anyway, it was Frodo and Aragorn before the Wargs attacked.

Elendur 02-13-2002 01:25 AM

Sorry Bruce. I thought it was agreed that we could post whenever we found a double quote in the book.

You are right though. I just wanted to give a quote out for fun. Not meaning to wreck the structure of the thread.

Bruce MacCulloch 02-13-2002 01:57 AM

No harm done, Elendur.
But if I don't hear from Lostgariel by this time tomorrow, I am going to post the next question.

[ February 14, 2002: Message edited by: Bruce MacCulloch ]

Bruce MacCulloch 02-14-2002 12:08 AM

Well, It's been four days since I answered the question and I've gotten no confirmation of it. I've had time to go and double-check my answer in the book, and it looks like I'm right. So... I'm going to go ahead and post the next quote.
Quote:

Come hither!

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-14-2002 06:29 AM

harken, hither and wager ... Haha... i allways remember where the odd words are (i especially remember 'hither' bequase it looks a little like Hitler..)

Elrond speaking to the council of Frodo.

Faramir to Gollum...

Aragorn to Êowyn...

Denethor to his servants...

Anything else mylord ?

(Does this meen i have to find 2 copy-cat quotes? aaargh!)

[ February 14, 2002: Message edited by: Androndo the Thoughtfull ]

Bruce MacCulloch 02-14-2002 03:38 PM

Correct!
Good luck finding matching quotes!
You'll need it.

Androndo the Thoughtfull 02-15-2002 08:20 AM

ok, describe two situations 'Good Gracious' is said...

*and now by good management and good luck I have done it.*

Lostgaeriel 02-18-2002 10:32 AM

So sorry, Bruce!
I forgot I had posted a question and I've been away from the Downs ever since. Of course you got it. Glad to see you went ahead.

Vilya Elathelas of Rivendell 02-19-2002 07:12 PM

i'm pretty sure I've got one. can I post it, or must I wait??

Joy 02-19-2002 07:56 PM

Vilya, if you have a copy-cat quote, start another thread. In order to post a question, you must answer correctly the post before it.

Which was
Quote:

Where are the two place where "Good Gracious" is spoken?
Good luck Vilya and great to have you aboard the Barrow-Downs. Hope you enjoy your stay here.

Vilya Elathelas of Rivendell 02-19-2002 08:03 PM

is it LOTR or the Sil cuz I haven't read the Sil yet.

Joy 02-19-2002 08:59 PM

I honestly think that it is either in LotR or the Hobbit. I remember reading it and those are the only books that I have read, except for 7 chapters of the Sil.

Gayalondiel 02-25-2002 07:54 AM

I sort of have two, both from the hobbit, but neither is 'good gracious' standing alone.

Bilbo says 'Good Gracious me' when he recognises Gandalf at the beginning.

Gandalf says 'Good gracious heavens, no no NO NO' when Bilbo thinks Beorn is a furrier.

Good enough?

Gayalondiel 03-05-2002 05:08 AM

I make it eight days i've been waiting for a reply to this. i have a new quote though, should i post it or keep waiting?

Joy 03-06-2002 02:05 AM

I would say go ahead. You've waited pasgt the 7 day rule.

Gayalondiel 03-07-2002 06:25 AM

ok then, which two said:
Quote:

Mr Peregrin Took I should say

Eowyn of Ithilien 03-08-2002 01:08 AM

errrrm father maggott and gandalf???

Gayalondiel 03-08-2002 02:51 AM

farmer maggott is good, the other is not really that close.

good guess tho

Lostgaeriel 03-21-2002 04:41 PM

Just to get this thread going again...

Wasn't it Sam who said
Quote:

Why, look Mr. Frodo! Look here! Well, if it isn't Pippin. Mr. Peregrin Took I should say, and Mr. Merry! How they have grown! Bless me! But I can see there's more tales to tell than ours.
(The Field of Cormallen)

And as Éowyn of Ithilien originally answered, Farmer Maggot said
Quote:

Well, if it isn't Master Pippin - Mr. Peregrin Took, I should say!
(A Short Cut to Mushrooms)

So, Gayalondiel, is that correct?

Gayalondiel 03-29-2002 04:52 PM

absolutely right! and good luck eith your quote, they're getting harder to find

Lostgaeriel 04-05-2002 02:34 PM

No problem - I had a dozen or so before I started the thread. (Sorry for the delay - I've been away from the Downs for a week or so.)

Quote:

How long have you known all this?

alaklondewen 04-05-2002 03:52 PM

I thought this sounded so familiar...
Frodo says it twice to Gandalf in The Shadow of the Past.

It that what you're looking for?

Lostgaeriel 04-05-2002 03:59 PM

Yep, that's it! (I sometimes think that Gandalf isn't a very good listener. Likes to hear himself talk? )

Got a quote?

alaklondewen 04-06-2002 10:36 AM

I sure do!

How about...
Quote:

Say just that!

Gayalondiel 04-09-2002 05:32 AM

erm, well pippin says it repeating sauron's words to him, do we count sauron as having a quote of his own?

alaklondewen 04-09-2002 02:54 PM

You're close enough. Pippen says it twice. Once when he was still in his "trance", and the other when describing what Sauron said.

Good job, your turn
