Finally!

Your turn, Telchar.

Telchar 01-16-2002 08:13 AM

Ecthelion
Faramir
Denethor
Firiel
Boromir

Elrian 01-16-2002 11:50 PM

They were all from Gondor;
Ecthelion: Steward of Gondor
Denethor: Steward of Gondor
Firiel: Daughter of King Ondoher
Boromir: Captain of the White Tower
Faramir: Stewart of Gondor, Prince of Ithilien.

Telchar 01-17-2002 02:40 AM

NO - like before it is the name that is important.

Turambar 01-17-2002 11:39 AM

Wild guess - did they all borrow elven names?

Telchar 01-18-2002 02:14 AM

you're on the right track turambar ... just not there yet

Turambar 01-18-2002 10:28 AM

Are they all names borne by two persons at least?

Telchar 01-18-2002 10:37 AM

well OK - Actually there are 15 caracters in ME that have those names - three each... GO ON

bragolheledion 01-19-2002 08:13 PM

is it that all the names have or had a place with the same name in the books somewhere
the tower of Ecthelion
and i know the silmarillion mentions the places boromir and denether

Turambar 01-20-2002 08:32 AM

Telchar - who are the other two Firiel's??
Bragolheledion - the answer was that each of those names were borne by three persons in Middle earth.

Anyway - try this one:- shouldn't be too hard:

Aragorn
Boromir
Finrod
Legolas

Eowyn of Ithilien 01-20-2002 03:48 PM

Boromir's the only one without any immortal blood???

Turambar 01-20-2002 07:41 PM

No this isn't an "Odd Man Out", all 4 have "One Thing in Common".

bragolheledion 01-20-2002 11:33 PM

i know this one they where all heirs to a throne

aragon-->heir of aranon king of gondor
boromir-->heir to the stewardship of gondor
finrod-->i think he is heir to fingol
legolas-->heir of thingol of mirkwood

bragolheledion 01-20-2002 11:34 PM

ooooops sorry Turambar

Turambar 01-21-2002 06:55 AM

I didn't think of that bragolheledion - I was thinking of soemthing that all four of them did once.

Turambar 01-23-2002 09:20 AM

Hint - near Caradhras . . .

Elenhin 01-23-2002 01:27 PM

Hm... the Fellowship was attacked by wolves near Caradhras, and Finrod fought (and was killed by) wolves in Tol Sirion?

Turambar 01-24-2002 07:19 AM

Close enough - Aragorn, Boromir and Legolas all killed a wolf near Caradhra; Finrod killed a werewolf in Sauron's dungeons.

Elenhin 01-24-2002 11:14 AM

Not too hard, I think:

Feanor
Sauron
Celebrimbor
Telchar
Eol

Turambar 01-24-2002 12:20 PM

They were all smiths? Or did they all make a jewel or ornament? (Though I can't think of what jewel Eöl made.)

Gwaihir the Windlord 01-25-2002 12:46 AM

Smiths, I should think.

Elenhin 01-26-2002 01:39 PM

Smiths. Turambar gets it.

Cirdan the Shipwright 01-28-2002 03:41 PM

Eol created Anglachel.

- Cirdan

Turambar 01-28-2002 08:57 PM

Gandalf
Aragorn
Galadriel

Telchar 01-29-2002 02:32 AM

All names contain 2 a's

... or rather they all refused the temptation of the One Ring.

Turambar 01-29-2002 06:12 AM

Tlechar: true, but find one more thing in common. HINT: They all did something BEFORE the War of the Ring, which others did during the War.

bragolheledion 02-01-2002 04:36 AM

um is it they all owned something from the previous war about the rings!

gandalf-the elven ring of fire(his ring)
aragon-narsil
galadriel-the elven ring of "air"(her ring)

Turambar 02-01-2002 09:31 AM

bragolheledion -

No it was something they DID, not something they HAD.

HINT: Although Galadriel did this (as reported in UT), Celeborn almost certainly did not, due to a personal prejudice he had throughout the Second Age and apparently most of the Third Age.

Turambar 02-04-2002 01:04 PM

How about if I added Durin to the list? Any guesses?

Turambar 02-05-2002 07:59 AM

I’m going AWOL and I don’t want to kill this thread so I’ll give the answer. Galadriel, Aragorn and Gandalf all passed through Moria prior to the War of the Ring. Celeborn likely didn’t because he had a grudge against dwarfs as a result of the killing of his kinsman Thingol and the sacking of Menegroth

Telchar 02-06-2002 02:49 AM

That was a good question - I had totally forgotten that Galadriel travelled through Moria.
Just to Add: Im pretty sure that Aragorn never went 'through' Moria - He stated himself that he had only passed through the Dimrill Gate, which doesn't mean that he came out of the West Gate, but more likely that he passed out through the Dimrill Gate again when he had finished his business.

I think you should give us a new one Turambar

Nevtalathiel 06-14-2002 05:11 AM

No one has posted here for a while, so I thought I'd try to revive the thread with my own offering:

Frodo
Sauron
Maedhros

Arwen Imladris 06-14-2002 07:13 PM

Frodo
Sauron
Maedhros: Eldest son of Feanor

They all pased over the sea?
They all went bad at one point?
They all have an "O" in thier name?
They all have an "R" in thier name?

Nevtalathiel 06-15-2002 03:47 AM

Nope, not any of the things I was thinking of.

Beren fits into the list as well.

[ June 15, 2002: Message edited by: Nevtalathiel ]

Lothiriel Silmarien 06-15-2002 03:32 PM

Sauron
Frodo
Maedhros
(Beren too)

Hmm...they all were in some way involved with evil. Or a Dark Lord. Beren got a Silmaril from a Dark Lord (Morgoth) Maedhros was trapped on the peak of Thangorodrim because of the Dark Lord (Morgoth, yet again) Sauron made an evil ring and was a Dark Lord, and Frodo got a ring from a Dark Lord (Sauron). So everyone was in some way connected to the "Dark side". Am I right???

Turambar 06-15-2002 09:02 PM

They all had part or all of their hand cut off.

Nevtalathiel 06-16-2002 10:42 AM

Sorry, Lothiriel Silmarien! Turambar, you got it right, over to you.

Arwen Imladris 06-26-2002 03:34 PM

Turambar? (sp?)

Well, if you want a question, cause it has been a while, how about:

Frodo
Gandalf
Galadriel
Elrond

Lómelindi 06-26-2002 05:36 PM

They all possessed a Ring of Power.

Frodo ---> the One Ring
Gandalf ---> Narya, the Ring of Fire
Galadriel ---> Nenya, the Ring of Water
Elrond ---> Vilya, the Ring of Air
