The Golden Hall of Hador?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 08-05-2003 07:35 PM

How about Annuminas the Golden-Haired?

Gwaihir the Windlord 08-05-2003 11:31 PM

Drat, Luthien, I was just about to say it.

So sorry! Who knows, it might not be right, though....

Very close, Sophia.

Telchar 08-11-2003 02:00 AM

eehhhh.... edo....

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 08-11-2003 02:50 AM

*Bestowing a very odd look upon Telchar*

I wonder if you might have been hinting at "Edoras", which isn't a building, it's a city... where there is an infamous Golden building.

I've never heard of it referred to as "Meduseld the Golden" however, I'll hazard a guess on it , guesses are free.

Meduseld the Golden-Haired?

Sophia

the phantom 08-12-2003 02:15 PM

I figured someone would've got it by now. Then again, it always seems easy to the writer.

Here's a hint- the building has something to do with Sauron.

the phantom 08-15-2003 12:46 AM

Okay, I'll restate what we know.

The word "golden" is correct. The building has something to do with Sauron.

Here's another hint- think Numenor.

the phantom 08-16-2003 09:29 PM

The clue is-
Quote:

A building dedicated to Hador.
"Golden" is part of the answer, and the building has something to do with Sauron and Numenor.

Anyone?

The Saucepan Man 08-18-2003 07:08 PM

Aha!

Is it Armenelos the Golden-Haired?

Armenelos was a city, but Sauron caused a temple to be built there.

the phantom 08-18-2003 11:34 PM

The Temple of Armenelos the Golden-Haired it is.

(actually, because it was necessary to include the location with the building, I guess it was kind of hard)

The Saucepan Man 08-19-2003 02:57 PM

Thanks Phantom.

This should be a fairly easy one.

Dwarven King's fortifications.

The Saucepan Man 08-25-2003 05:29 PM

Er, perhaps not so easy, then. Any takers?

Kaiserin 08-26-2003 01:46 AM

Barad-Durin?

The Saucepan Man 08-26-2003 07:07 AM

Nope. That's not the one, I'm afraid.

The Saucepan Man 08-28-2003 04:32 PM

Surely it can't be that difficult.

The (nick) name of a Dwarven King merged with a well-known fortification ...

Evisse the Blue 08-29-2003 02:13 PM

Balin-Dur, then?

Turambar 08-29-2003 02:18 PM

Thorin III Stonehelm's Deep ?

The Saucepan Man 08-31-2003 05:22 AM

Stonehelm's Deep is indeed the answer. Well done, Turambar.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-12-2005 10:22 PM

Revival anyone?

This thread was my favorite, and now that I'm back in town for a while here's hoping some old friends will come back to play it with me.:) Instructions (and plenty of examples) are on the earlier pages of the game.

Who's up for:

Fingolfin II 01-13-2005 12:43 AM

Nice game!

Is it Carrock of the Music of Water?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-13-2005 04:02 PM

Why so it is...

:D The floor is yours.

Fingolfin II 01-13-2005 06:37 PM

Cheers. I didn't really expect to get it first time- 'A Shot in the Dark' so to speak ;). Hmm, let's see....

Turin's mother from the Golden Wood.

Firefoot 01-13-2005 07:30 PM

This looks like fun, so I'll give it a shot.

White Lady of Dor-Lomin?

Fingolfin II 01-13-2005 08:13 PM

Alas, no :(.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-16-2005 03:25 PM

I need a clue Fin II. ;) This puzzle is aching my brain off. For anyone else who wants to give it a shot, I'm going to post all the relevant words I could think of:

Turin's mother
Morwen
Eledhwen
Elfsheen

The Golden Wood
Lorien
Lothlorian
Laurenindorenan
Lindorinand
Land of the Blossom
Land of the Valley of Singing Gold
Dwimordene
Valley of Gold
Vale of the Land of the Singers

There were also Stewards Turin I & II of Gondor, but I haven't yet found their mothers' names.

Sophia

Fingolfin II 01-16-2005 07:01 PM

Really, Sophia, you give me too much credit. It's a pretty easy question, though unfortunately not as witty as the ones posed in this thread. It kind of makes sense, but in a subtle way; almost non-existent you could say. Anyway, I'll stop babbling and give you two clues-

1.) It doesn't make sense in the conventional way that you'd expect (i.e. Thorin III Stonehelm's Deep or Carrock of the Music of Water), but rather describes a general feeling. Hard to explain, hopefully this will help more-

2.) You mentioned both parts it in your list of names.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-20-2005 04:20 AM

*looks pitiful*

more clue, more clue! I don't understand what you mean by "general feeling", and I can come up with some interesting rhymes, but no real before-and-after phrase...

Help me, FinII, you're my only hope! :p

Sophe

Fingolfin II 01-20-2005 05:43 PM

By general feeling, I kind of mean- hmm what do I mean? Well, what I hope I mean is that you get this 'feeling' or you sense this when you go to this place. Believe me, there are no rhymes in this answer- when I came up with it, it seemed pretty random but yeah, it kind of fits. Anyway, the second part of the answer is "Lothlorien" (or Lorien).

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-23-2005 12:30 AM

Like a Nazgul on Weathertop she takes a stab in the dark...

Unwilling to let this thread be re-killed and re-buried, I thought I'd put forward:

Elfsheen of Lorien?

Sense, nonsense, or has Sophia missed the point?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-25-2005 02:41 AM

Since FinII pmed me to say the above was right, I'll put forward a new clue.

Evil Sorcerer's home, new residence of Symbolically Immortal Father

:D

Sophia

The Saucepan Man 01-25-2005 03:36 AM

Dol Guldurin's Tower?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-25-2005 04:27 PM

Close, Saucy. Very close. I approve of the reincarnation of your avatar.

I'm actually looking for the name and title of the "Father", rather than his home. I meant the Evil Sorcerer's fortress as his "new residence".

Sophe

Nuranar 01-25-2005 05:26 PM

Barad-dûrin the Deathless

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-25-2005 08:52 PM

Nuranar, I will give it to you, even though I was looking for Dol-Guldurin the Deathless, because I overlooked the fact that Dol-Guldur and Barad-dur were both residences of the same evil sorcerer.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-09-2005 11:01 PM

*bump*

Nuranar?

Nuranar 02-09-2005 11:33 PM

Yoikes!

I promise to brainstorm one tomorrow! Probably during computer science lab... anything to keep me awake. :)

Nuranar 02-14-2005 02:17 PM

Better late than never... right?

OK, so it was Monday, not Thursday... and it was geology, not cs lab... but at long last I've got something. I hope this is passable - it's the first time for me to do it. And many apologies for taking so long! :o
