How long did the journey take?
I apologize if there has already been another thread on this, but I was wondering if anybody knew how long Frodo's, and the fellowship's, journey actually lasted (from the quest to destroy the ring, all the way to the destruction of the ring)? There are a few hints in the RotK, but I can't seem to figure it out. Here are a few.
-Bilbo gave up the ring on his 111th birthday and Frodo visited Bilbo in Rivendell (shortly after the destruction of the ring) on Bilbo's 129th birthday. There's a huge gap there. -When Frodo returns to the Shire, the RotK mentions that it was October 6th, 1420--exactly 2 years after Frodo was wounded by the Ring wraith. There's more, but I can't seem to find it right now. Goodluck |
September 22, 3018- they leave Bag End.
March 25, 3019- The Ring is destroyed. |
Its ALL in the Appendix B of RotK. A complete breakdown of the dates and years of all significant events.

I'm sure quite a few beginning readers of LotR would be interested in the answer to this question. Therefore it's been moved to the Novices and Newcomers forum. Please continue to read and post there.

You can watch the whole thing unfold day by day right here on the Barrow-Downs, thanks to a nice little feature on the main homepage. I love this site.
