Vanyar

What were the Vanyar or by what other name were they known?

Snowy 01-13-2002 10:10 AM

i dunno, but i think that "vanya" in elvish (quenya) is "beautiful" and when u add an "r" that makes it plural. so maybe it has summin to do with that?

Vanyar: The First host of the Eldar on the westward journey from Cuivienen, led by Ingwe. The name (singular Vanya ) means 'the Fair', referring to the golden hair of the Vanyar.
Taken from The Silmarillion.

Wow! I'm finding I learn a lot of things from other people's questions.
Welcome to the 'Downs, Quelledeloth and Snowy!

Unless you count the children and grandchildren of Indis (Fingolfin, Turgon, Finrod, Galadriel, etc...) who had Vanyar blood.

Hello Samwise. I've been posting on the DC Message board, wizards.com, the TrekBBS and sometimes on barbelith.com.

Samwise 01-16-2002 04:32 PM

I meant here in the 'Downs, but those sound interesting. I've never posted on the 'Downs anywhere but "Novices and Newcomers", 'cause I'm afraid I'll make a dummy of myself.
As for OTHER boards I've been on: Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, The SH22 RP board, and various poetry boards.....

"Me Sir!", cried Sam. "Me go and see Elves and all! Hooray! "
