Er, just wondering: is "Sauronman" supposed to be Sauron or Saruman?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 05-25-2003 09:13 PM

LOL! Well, since I'm neither Sauron nor Saruman, I suppose it doesn't matter.

*bump* Takers?

lathspell 05-27-2003 02:38 PM

Is it Melkor?

He chose his own destruction already during the Music of the Ainur.
His name means 'He Who Arises In Might', so that would serve him better.

Arestevana 05-27-2003 05:56 PM

I'm going to say Gelmir of Angrod.
He went to Nargothrond with Arminas to warn Orodreth of "a great mustering of orcs and evil creatures". Turin spoke against him and Nargothrond was taken. The other Gelmir lived IN Nargothrond and was killed to provoke the defenders of Eithel Sirion. The stunt was very effective. Much more so than the warnings of the first Gelmir. thus...

Alas, my namesake would have served me better
though that's not really a namesake. I tried.

Finwe 05-27-2003 05:59 PM

Turin Turambar chose his own destruction by not going after Finduilas, and Turin I of Gondor's reign was very peaceful, which would have served Turambar much better.

Arestevana 05-27-2003 06:06 PM

Ah, Finwe, you beat me to it. I just pulled out my copy of the Silm and was going to edit that in. Though mine was more along the lines of Turin under the name Mormegil, falling on his sword.....I imagine that you are correct, which is for the best as I could never have thought up another Who Am I? to post.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 05-27-2003 06:58 PM

Nobody's gotten it right yet. Tell me when a clue is necessary.

Sophia

Finwe 05-27-2003 07:01 PM

I think we need a clue right now! At least tell us in what age he/she lived. That would probably help a great deal.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 05-28-2003 07:15 PM

No, I have a rather different clue in mind. The namesake referred to is an object.

GaladrieloftheOlden 05-28-2003 07:26 PM

Is this person in LotR? Could it be Lotho? Unsure of how that would work, but hey, I'm trying

~Menelien

Finwe 05-28-2003 07:35 PM

All right, so this person chose his/her own destruction (not death) and his/her namesake was an object that could have helped them.

GaladrieloftheOlden 05-28-2003 07:53 PM

Arwen? For the Evenstar?

Hopefully,
~Menelien

Ultimatejoe 05-28-2003 10:09 PM

Helped who? Is it Beleg Strongbow?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 05-28-2003 11:21 PM

It is indeed Ultimate Joe.

I chose my own destruction- Melian offered Beleg his choice of weapons when he left to seek for Turin. Beleg chose Anglachel, which eventually was the sword that slew him.

My namesake would have served me better.- His surname is Cuthalion, the Strong Bow... perhaps a better choice of weapon.

lathspell 06-02-2003 12:59 PM

Nice riddle that was!

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 06-08-2003 06:32 PM

*bump* Ultimate Joe?!

It´s been 10 days...here´s a new riddle:

Loved by The Master
killed by The Father
buried in The Hill
daughter of The Second
who am I?

Manardariel 06-11-2003 03:18 AM

No one??? I´m offended!

Éowyn??

Finwe 06-11-2003 10:48 AM

Finduilas?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 06-11-2003 10:49 AM

Haleth?

Manardariel 06-11-2003 10:53 AM

*bows* All yours, Finwe! Good one!

Arestevana 06-11-2003 02:06 PM

I'm confused! Would one of you explain your reasoning?

Manardariel 06-12-2003 09:29 AM

Sure!

Loved by The Master- Master of Doom, that´s Turin
killed by The Father- of Dragons, that´s Glaurung, he destroyed Nargothrond and killed Finduilas
buried in The Hill- Haudh-en-Arwen, a hill, that´s her grave
daughter of The Second- her fathr is Orodeth, second in the line of Finarfin

I liked it!

Arestevana 06-14-2003 06:07 AM

Ah-hah. I was thinking only that she had been killed by the orcs who captured her. I'll try to remember to look at other connections next time. Btw, wasn't she buried in the haudh-en Elleth? The Haudh-en-Arwen was the burial place of Haleth, I believe. It was an excellent riddle, though.

Hey Finwe, wassup? You still there?!

Manardariel 06-21-2003 09:32 AM

Ok, it´s been 10 days- new riddle.

Survived a strife
I am a wife
a star is in my hand
Who am I?

Arwen Imladris 06-21-2003 11:11 AM

Survived a strife: The kin-strife?

Elestirnë? That sounds the best, it means 'star-brow'.

Gil-Galad 06-21-2003 01:05 PM

Maybe Galadriel? she had the phial of it and is married to celeborn and survived the strife of the Noldor

Manardariel 06-21-2003 03:48 PM

Gil- Galad, you are CORRECT! Though I neant Nenya, not the phial.....

Gil-Galad 06-22-2003 11:11 AM

well thanks

Of North i came, friend of south i am, enemy of stunted i also became for i slew the terror and claimed an unrightful treasure

who am i?

i have a feelign its too easy...

Manardariel 06-22-2003 11:20 AM

Beren? If you say Lúthien is the treasure....

Arestevana 06-22-2003 03:16 PM

My guess is from The Hobbit:
Perhaps Bard? Stunted meaning Dwarves, of course, as they felt the dragon's treasure to be entirely theirs, thus making any other claim false. Then of course there was the Arkenstone, which was, in a sense, stolen.

The Saucepan Man 06-22-2003 07:29 PM

I would say Fram, who slew the dragon Scatha, inherited his treasure which was largely Dwarvish in origin, and was promptly killed by the Dwarves for his trouble.

Gil-Galad 06-23-2003 11:37 AM

The Saucepan man is correct as usual please do continue...

The Saucepan Man 06-23-2003 05:50 PM

Thank you, Gil-Galad.

In the place of a king
And made up lost time
By his reckoning
