Hehe.

Clues?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-27-2005 07:15 PM

Clues, clues.

Alright, what I am looking for does (this time ;)) begin with an S, however, it is the lesser known name of the thing in question. And I don't think I'm overstepping by saying it is a Geographical Feature.

Can't tell you much more without blowing it.

:smokin:

Firefoot 01-27-2005 07:25 PM

Ship of Long Foam (Otherwise known as Cair Andros)?

Divider of the Great: Splits the Anduin.

Eases the Crossing: Um, I suppose it would make crossing the Anduin easier since it would be two narrower rivers rather than one wide one...

Must be well protected: It was guarded against the forces of Mordor by Gondorian soldiers, though the defenses were breached due to not enough men.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-27-2005 07:29 PM

That's the one.

Bravo, bravo.

Firefoot 01-27-2005 07:40 PM

Thanks. Oh, wait, now I have to write one of these?!?!

;) Let's see...

The truth-speaker is sung of by the jester, yet feared by friend and foe alike.

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-27-2005 08:07 PM

WAGging again . . .

Malbeth?

Firefoot 01-27-2005 08:32 PM

Nope.

Firefoot 02-10-2005 06:10 AM

Anyone?

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-10-2005 07:12 PM

Saruman?

Just a wild guess.

If wrong, hints?

Firefoot 02-11-2005 06:23 AM

Nope.

The jester was named so in jest, and no where near where the solution is mentioned.

The third part (feared by friends and foes) comes from a specific instance in the text.

Aren't there two people?
The jester = Sam?
The truth speaker = Gandalf? (when he lamented him in Lorien).

Firefoot 02-12-2005 08:03 AM

My apologies - I forgot to say which one I meant! I'm looking for "the truth-speaker... who is feared by friends and foes alike."

Sam is correct; Gandalf is not.

Evisse the Blue 02-12-2005 08:09 AM

Just a question: It has to begin with an M, right?

...Mithrandir?

Firefoot 02-12-2005 09:22 AM

Yes, it begins with M...

No, it's not Mithrandir.

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 06:41 PM

Forgetting the rules . . .

Now you tell me. :o :D

Nice going, birdbrain, with the Saruman bit.

You don't have to remind me.

Evisse the Blue 02-26-2005 08:05 AM

Gee, I have it! Mumakil. :D

That was a good one!

Firefoot 02-26-2005 08:17 AM

Aye, that's the one!

Your turn, Evisse.

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-03-2005 01:27 AM

*poke*

Evisse?

Evisse the Blue 03-04-2005 03:00 AM

*ouch*

Being endowed with a high power,
But helpless to the hands of fate,
Enriched the lore,
Awakened hate,
Was granted love in final hour.

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-07-2005 06:39 AM

A Wag.

Lúthien?
Being endowed with a high power
She is half-Ainu.
But helpless to the hands of fate
Tied to Beren.
Enriched the lore
Uh . . .
Awakened hate
Awakened the Oath of Fëanor through the Quest of the Silmaril, which was done for her.
Was granted love in final hour.
She died and rescued Beren before he was sent away.

Evisse the Blue 03-07-2005 07:28 AM

Luthien it is! Your turn! :)

A Lover of lore,
The Son of Star-foam
Ceded the Sceptre.

Envinyatar 03-08-2005 03:16 AM

A Lover of lore:

Nólimon -- means most learned; surname given to Vardamir, Elros' son

--

Son of Star-foam:

Elros means Star-foam

--

Ceded the Sceptre:

Vardamir Nólimon was very old when Elros died, and he passed the Sceptre of Númenor immediately on to his son, Tar-Amandil

------------------------------------------

So my answer would be Nólimon since it needs to begin with the letter 'N'.

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-08-2005 04:27 AM

Spot on.

It is Nólimon.

Your turn. :)

Envinyatar 03-08-2005 01:12 PM

Stone master / Aperture adept

A silver-fisted friend, indeed

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-09-2005 01:46 AM

Narvi?

The Dwarf who made the West-Gate of Moria, and friend of Celebrimbor?

Envinyatar 03-09-2005 02:46 AM

'Tis so . . . continue on!

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-09-2005 02:59 AM

It came from the South.
Of unknown origin.
Given to the Wise.

NightKnight 03-09-2005 12:38 PM

Incanus, a name for Gandalf?

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-10-2005 12:58 AM

:)

NightKnight 03-10-2005 01:10 AM

Red as blood, a token of death of the betrayed.

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-10-2005 01:20 AM

Seregon?

NightKnight 03-15-2005 08:57 AM

Yups. Your turn. :)

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-17-2005 04:58 AM

It's sharp, it's protected, and it's surrounded by water.

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-31-2005 08:03 AM

*bump*

It took me a while to recall my answer.

Anyone?

Evisse the Blue 08-14-2005 01:52 AM

....Numenor?

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-14-2005 02:02 AM

Hi! Welcome back!

Sorry, no.

Although you're on the right track. It's a place.

Evisse the Blue 08-14-2005 02:15 AM

Thanks. So good to be back :)

As for the riddle, the Naith of Lorien? Naith means 'sharp'. Lorien was protected by Galadriel's Ring, and surrounded by Nimrodel, Celebrant and Anduin.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-14-2005 02:31 AM

Capital!

Your turn. :)

Evisse the Blue 08-14-2005 02:58 AM

Thankies!
