Gorgeous new Hobbit edition.

I am on the Harper Collins email list and I have just got notification that there will be a new illustrated Hobbit out in Sept. As you may have noticed I am seldom a great fan of Tolkien art but this lookslovely. The picture of Bilbo is charming and there is a very splendid Smaug on the special, edition.
The illustrator, Jemima Catlin has a hint of naivety in her style that reminds me of Tolkien's own pictures and they are closer to Pauline Baynes than Alan Lee. On the Christmas list.

Having trouble linking on tablet but well worth goggling.

Since I have the chance on a proper puter I here is the link to the press release.

Amazon gives a chance to look at more pictures and the calendar looks lovely.

I know that Tolkien did his own drawings and they are irreplaceable but I do think these are complementary from what I can see, and have a hint of his naive style and also that of Pauline Baynes without becoming pastiche.

I have had a look at Miss Catlin's website (I was particularly interested as we live in the same area of England) and I think her work in general is quite charming.

I hope that this edition will prehaps draw a little attention back to the book.

Anyone going to Oxonmoot will have the chance to hear Miss Catlin talk about this project.

yes, Oxonmoot is really getting an exciting new look. That plus a Friday afternoon tour of something Lewis related.
