Stoors.

alaklondewen 03-17-2003 06:53 PM

Yes! And the Winner is.....Annunfuiniel!!!!

The board is yours.

Eruanna 03-17-2003 06:59 PM

Well Done Annunfuiniel.

Annunfuiniel 03-18-2003 02:26 AM

Oh, thank you and thank you!

Ok, question #1: Who was the 10. King of Mark and how was he related to his predecessor?

Eruanna 03-18-2003 04:57 AM

The Tenth King of the Mark was Frealaf. He was the nephew (sister-son) of Helm Hammerhand....sorry, I don't know how to do the little accents and umlauts.

Annunfuiniel 03-18-2003 01:37 PM

And the first point goes to Eruanna!

2) Who made the Elessar?

Score:
Eruanna-1

[ March 18, 2003: Message edited by: Annunfuiniel ]

gilraën 03-18-2003 01:43 PM

Feanor?

Gil-Galad 03-18-2003 05:41 PM

Elrond?

gilraën 03-18-2003 06:25 PM

If it wasn't Feanor then it must have been Enerdhil?

Annunfuiniel 03-19-2003 04:49 AM

I will accept gilraën's second guess, Enerdhil, though there is no definite right answer to this question. Some sources name Celebrimbor as the maker of the Elessar. (For more info look the UT; the story of Galadriel and Celeborn)

3) How many Hurins are there mentioned in Tolkien's writings?

Score:
Eruanna-1
gilraën-1

gilraën 03-19-2003 12:53 PM

5 ?

Annunfuiniel 03-19-2003 02:21 PM

Could you please identify these five. Otherwise it's quite impossible to judge your answer...

Pallando B.C 03-19-2003 04:16 PM

Four.

• Húrin, fifth Ruling Steward of Gondor.
• Húrin, fourteenth Ruling Steward of Gondor.
• Húrin, father of Túrin.
• Húrin, of Emyn Arnen.

gilraën 03-19-2003 05:05 PM

1Hurin of Dol-lomin
2Hurin steward to King Minardhil
3Hurin I Fifth ruling steward
4Hurin II Fourteenth ruling steward
5Hurin of the keys (of Minas Tirith)

Annunfuiniel 03-20-2003 02:16 AM

Nice job, gilraën, you have taken the lead!

4)Which two heirlooms did Aragorn obtain only after he was crowned?

Score:
Eruanna-1
gilraën-2

elven maiden Earwen 03-20-2003 09:51 AM

the sceptre of Annumasum and the elesser

Annunfuiniel 03-20-2003 10:16 AM

You're halfway there with the sceptre of Annuminas. But Aragorn got the Elessar from Galadriel in Lothlórien during the War of the Rings...

Eruanna 03-20-2003 11:07 AM

The Crown of Eänur?
The Sceptre of Annúminas?

Annunfuiniel 03-20-2003 11:23 AM

He got the crown when he was crowned...
Ok, your LOTR's are of no use here! Run, to find your UT's!!

Rochelle 03-20-2003 12:32 PM

Ok I think I found it...

The chain and box that had once held the ring around Isildur's neck and the Elendilmir.

These two things were found in Orthanc.

Eruanna 03-20-2003 12:33 PM

The Sceptre and......the Ring of Barahir??

gilraën 03-20-2003 12:55 PM

I'd say that Rochelle was right and it was the Elendilmir.

Annunfuiniel 03-20-2003 01:51 PM

Ok, now we have both items! I have decided to give two points on this round, one for elven maiden Earwen (for the Sceptre) and one for Rochelle (for the Elendilmir). Hope that's fine for you.

5) What name was Mirkwood given after the War of the Rings? (English and Sindarin please)

Score:
Eruanna-1
gilraën-2
elven maiden Earwen-1

Rochelle 03-20-2003 01:58 PM

It was renamed Eryn Lasgalen or the Wood of Greenleaves.

Annunfuiniel 03-20-2003 02:07 PM

Wow, that was a super-fast answer! Well done, Rochelle!

Score:
Eruanna-1

Rochelle 03-20-2003 02:29 PM

Why thank you! You are asking marvelous questions, and the people who aren't on BD right now are gonna hate me cuz here's another quick reply *lol*

Tintallë was a name given to Varda Elentári it translates to "the kindler"

An sí Tintallë Varda Oiolossëo
ve fanyar máryat Elentári ortanë...

Annunfuiniel 03-21-2003 12:54 PM

Yes, that went to Rochelle too.

7) Who forged the new gates for Minas Tirith and of what where those gates made?

Eruanna 03-21-2003 01:51 PM

Gimli brought Dwarves from Erebor, they forged the new gates for Minas Tirith. The gates were made of Mithril and steel.

gralin musicteeth 03-21-2003 04:30 PM

wasn't it mithril and gold? i thought it was. perhaps not.

Annunfuiniel 03-22-2003 08:19 AM

No gralin, the gates were made of mithril and steel, at least according to my books. So, Eruanna got that one!

8) On what grounds did Arvedui Lastking lay claims to the crown of Gondor?

Score:
Eruanna-2
gilraën-2

gilraën 03-22-2003 08:32 AM

He claimed it on behalf of his wife Firiel and himself (claiming he was of the eldest line of Isildur and that no other closer male claimant could be found).

Annunfuiniel 03-22-2003 10:58 AM

That's so true, gilraën, point to you!

9) Who wounded Glaurung so that it fled the battlefield and which battle was this?

gilraën 03-22-2003 11:24 AM

Azaghal during Dagor Bragollach 'The battle of Sudden Flame'

Annunfuiniel 03-22-2003 01:33 PM

I believe everything isn't quite right with that answer, gilraën...

gilraën 03-22-2003 02:09 PM

'slaps head'
of course it's the Battle of Unnumbered Tears - Ninaeth Arnoediad.

Annunfuiniel 03-22-2003 02:20 PM

I knew you knew that! Point earned, gilraën.
So, the last decisive question:

10)Mention six beings/places/objects that are 'Golden'.

Score:
Eruanna-2
gilraën-4
elven maiden Earwen-1
Rochelle-3

Beren87 03-22-2003 02:27 PM

It's too late to win, but I feel like answering anyway

Golden Perch-an Inn, supposebly has the best Ale.
Golden Tree-Laurelin
The Golden Wood-Lorien o'course
Goldilocks Took-Daughter of Sam Gamgee
Goldberry-Wife of Tom
(and now I'm going to cheat and look one up cause I can't think of anymore)
Goldworthy-Family of Hobbits!

Annunfuiniel 03-22-2003 02:48 PM

Good job, Beren! And nice to know that you too have to cheat sometimes if only this once, it makes you more...hmmm...like the rest of us!
Oh, and I thought of these 'Golden' "things" as well: Golden Hall (Meduseld), Goldenbed (river Ascar after the treasure of Doriath was thrown there by Beren and co.); also Ar-Pharazôn and Smaug were generally referred to as 'Golden'.

And so, the winner with 4 points is...gilraën!! Hooray and congrats!

gilraën 03-22-2003 04:36 PM

Oh I think I'll strangle that Beren for having me win by default. I'm no good at questions but I'll try, good luck
