Tigerlily Gamgee 05-12-2002 09:59 AM

Ha, I thought I was posting in Starbreeze's challenge when I posted the above about Starbreeze. Well, they both have riddles, I guess it's an easy mistake.
It still applies.

Ithaeliel 05-12-2002 11:57 AM

Yup, mine was teeth & tongue. I think that was Gollum's riddle.

Susan Delgado 05-12-2002 05:39 PM

You got it, Tigerlily; it's a map

See, that's what's so fun about riddles: the thinking of things

Tigerlily Gamgee 05-12-2002 07:46 PM

It is fun! That's why I keep coming back even though I am not that good. I want to get better.
I love thinking games!!!!!

That's my thought, too, though I'm not so good at thinking up riddles myself.

"That's all I know." stammered Sam, blushing. "I learned it from Mr. Bilbo when I was a lad. "

I'm round as a pear and deep as a cup;
If you want me to talk, you must pull my tail.

Niere-Teleliniel 05-19-2002 03:58 PM

Is it a bell?

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-19-2002 05:13 PM

I got a riddle although I don't know if I'm aloud to post one yet, I don't know the rules, but I hope it's alright if I put up my riddle.
What has no eyes but you see it, has no ears yet you hear it, and has no mouth but you feed it and things come out? (of it's "mouth", not the other end!)

I just made this riddle up right now sitting here cuz I looked over and thought, why not make one up about.....'it'.

Niere-Teleliniel 05-19-2002 08:07 PM

Interesting riddle Lothiriel, I'll have to mull over that one...

(The rules are that if you can answer a riddle, then you may post one. )

piosenniel 05-20-2002 12:19 AM

Lothiriel - is it your reflection?

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-20-2002 01:24 PM

Thanks Niere
Ok, that's a really good answer, never thought of that, but it's not the answer I'm looking for. I'll give a hint though:
Usually it goes on a desk.

Susan Delgado 05-20-2002 07:50 PM

Is it a telephone?

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-21-2002 01:27 PM

Nope. Ok I'll give a big hint- it usually is in a computer room. Most likely next to the computer.

Bragolandune 05-21-2002 01:33 PM

Lothiriel, is it a fax machine?

Samwise 05-21-2002 04:29 PM

Lothiriel, is it perhaps a printer?
Quote:

"Swans!" said Sam. "And mighty big ones, too! "

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-21-2002 04:32 PM

Go Samwise!!!!!! You got it, ok your turn.

Samwise 05-21-2002 04:50 PM

Really? Jeez, I only get them when I don't think! (Is that a good thing? )Okay, anyhow....

Sam, is it yesterday?

Hey, look at me in all my shadely-ness!

Mm...sort of, Susan, but not the answer I'm looking for.
Quote:

Sam eased the pack on his shoulders, and went over anxiously in his mind all the things which were stowed in it: his chief treasure, his cooking gear; and the little box of salt that he always carried and refilled when he could; woolen hose; linen; various small belongings of his master's that Frodo had forgotten and Sam had stowed to bring them all out in triumph when they were called for. He went through them all.

Ithaeliel 05-21-2002 07:29 PM

Lothiriel, I would have guessed it was an ATM machine! LOL! Okay, trying to think...

This is kinda untraditional (no, it's REALLY untraditional):

A man was on his way to work. As he drove along, he saw his father and waved to him. A few minutes later, the man was involved in a serious accident. He was driven to the hospital, but his father could not get there before he was to be operated on. So the doctor came in to operate, and said, "I can't operate on this man. He is my son."

Who is the doctor?
I couldn't think of anything better.

Susan Delgado 05-21-2002 07:32 PM

his mother.

Susan Delgado 05-21-2002 07:34 PM

How about the past?
How close am I? On the right/wrong track?

Ithaeliel 05-21-2002 07:38 PM

His mother. Right. I suppose everybody's heard that one.

Grrr, Susan! How come you are so good at riddles??? And where'd you hear so MANY??? Do you just make them up on the spot? *Brimming with envy*

You're on the right track, Susan. Still not
[I]quite{/I] the answer I was looking for...

Susan Delgado 05-21-2002 09:02 PM

How about a hintlet? just a little one...

Well, see, Ithaeliel, I um...kind of, collect riddles, so I've read a lot of them and know the general conventions. And, no, I don't usually make them up; I get them out of my book, which is all the best ones I've come across.

Samwise 05-21-2002 10:34 PM

A hintlet? Err...the only one I can think of will probably totally give it away...but...
You "find" this in school.

Susan Delgado 05-21-2002 11:19 PM

ahh, i see. That's a good riddle

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-22-2002 05:44 AM

Lol Ithaeliel, ATM machine. That riddle was really stupid, I'm sorry people. I couldn't think of one so I had to make one up!

Samwise- is it the past???

Niere-Teleliniel 05-22-2002 09:43 AM

Sam, is it a memory?

Samwise 05-22-2002 01:27 PM

Nope, still not it. Think textbooks.
Quote:

Sam looked up into the pale sky, fearing to see hawks or eagles hovering over them with bright unfriendly eyes.
"You do make me feel uncomfortable and lonesome, Strider! " he said.

Bragolandune 05-22-2002 01:48 PM

Sam, is it history?

Samwise 05-22-2002 02:12 PM

Bragolandune, history's it!
Quote:

Suddenly a low voice murmured:
"Gil-Galad was an elven-king.
Of him the harpers sadly sing:
the last whose realm was fair and free
between the Mountains and the Sea.

His sword was long, his lance was keen,
his shining helm afar was seen;
the countless stars of Heaven's feild
were mirrored in his silver shield..

But long ago he rode away
and where he dwelleth none can say
for into darkness fell his star
in Mordor where the shadows are. "

The others turned in amazement, for the voice was Sam's.

Lady_Báin 05-23-2002 05:07 AM

hey daun it theres no riddles left to answer

Susan Delgado 05-23-2002 12:02 PM

There's always another riddle out there

1.
In a tunnel of darkness lies a beast of iron.
It can only attack when pulled back.

I don't remember whether this one has been asked here before. If it has, then it should be really easy

2.
This nag rides the night,
Silent with fright,
But all who are near
Know nothing to fear.

Tigerlily Gamgee 05-25-2002 01:20 PM

I am guessing the first one to be a gun, perhaps.
In the second one... what does "nag" mean? I have only heard that word used when referring to an old horse (or someone who is bothering you, but I doubt it means that).

Samwise 05-25-2002 01:57 PM

Yes, a "nag" is an old horse, Tigerlily, and I'm guessing that one to be a nightmare.

As for the second one, is it a bullet?
Quote:

"But you can't leave poor old Bill behind in this forsaken place, Mr. Gandalf!" cried Sam, angry and distressed. "I won't have it, and that's flat. After he has come so far and all! "

Samwise 05-25-2002 02:01 PM

Whoop, sorry, those answers are meant to be the other way around.

Quote:

And with that word she held them with her eyes, and looked searchingly at each of them in turn. Sam quickly blushed and hung his head.

Susan Delgado 05-26-2002 02:14 AM

Yes, those are correct. Was the nightmare one asked here before?

Samwise 05-26-2002 03:39 PM

http://www.plauder-smilies.de/eek2.gif You mean that was the answer?? Wow. Yes, I think "Nightmare" has been told here or on the old thread once or twice before, but in different ways. No matter. Hey, with all of the riddles on here, we're BOUND to repeat sometimes!
Quote:

"I don't like this at all," panted Sam just behind. "Snow's all right on a fine morning, but I like to be in bed while it's falling. I wish this lot would go off to Hobbiton. Folk might welcome it there. "

Susan Delgado 05-26-2002 05:22 PM

Here's a simple one

I love to dance and twist and prance;
I shake my tail as away I sail;
Wingless I fly, into the sky.

And one the like of which I've posted before, though I don't remember in which thread

My first is a woman,
My second's a bird.
My whole is an insect,
I give you my word.
