What about the House of Kings?

Merry and Pippin next to all the stars of M-e including Elendil and Aragorn? :D

Beregond 01-08-2009 06:31 PM

Oooooooh! I had forgotten that they were laid to rest in Rath Dinen. I bet you're right. This one was driving me crazy. :)

Rath Dínen, it is! I almost put "small" in parentheses in the original question, but I thought that might make it too easy.
The thread is yours , sir.

The Might 01-12-2009 02:27 PM

Remember those descending from ages past?

Groin Redbeard 01-12-2009 07:21 PM

I think I'll give it a go in here

The line of Barahir?

Groin, when you are here, perhaps you would like to take a look at the Geography Direction Quiz ;) :p

The Might 01-13-2009 07:06 AM

Nope.

Ilya 01-13-2009 10:05 PM

Hmm...the Silvan elves, maybe?

Legate of Amon Lanc 01-14-2009 04:38 AM

I guess you don't mean the mathoms :smokin:

The Might 01-14-2009 07:29 AM

No and no. Old. Like very old.

Beregond 01-14-2009 08:09 AM

Would it be the Druadan? Maybe they aren't old enough..

Istari?

The Might 01-17-2009 07:47 PM

Older than Druedain.

Istari don't count as they never descended from anything. They just were there. :D

Inziladun 01-17-2009 09:21 PM

Here's a wild stab- the spiders of Mirkwood, descended from Ungoliant?

Vaine 01-18-2009 05:14 AM

descended can mean something else than descending from ancestors, I was thinking descending from 'heaven' or something in that fasion. :p

The Might 01-18-2009 10:51 AM

Ok, that is true, but still wrong. :D

The spiders of Mirkwood are a good idea, although not old enough.

Ilya 01-20-2009 07:23 PM

Hmm...along the same lines, then, how about the long-worms, decendents of dragons?

The Might 01-21-2009 04:48 AM

Nope.

Vaine 01-21-2009 11:51 AM

Just gonna throw a quick stab here:

The white tree saplings, being descendants of Telperion.

The Might 01-21-2009 02:06 PM

Older. :D

Vaine 01-21-2009 02:44 PM

I think I got it:

Wargs descending from the werewolves of the first age.

The Might 01-21-2009 03:17 PM

That isn't older than Telperion I believe... so it can only be wrong.

Look further back! :)

Vaine 01-21-2009 03:19 PM

The mearas, descending from the horses of Aman?

The Might 01-21-2009 10:41 PM

Ok, that's a good thought, but still not old enough.

Think before Aman, before they went to live over the sea. :)

Beregond 01-21-2009 10:45 PM

It's hard to look to a time without the two trees. ;)

The dwarves? Any chance they were created before Telperion? I don't remember what the book says...

The Might 01-21-2009 10:47 PM

Wait... weren't the Dwarves made after they moved to Aman?

Please correct me if I am wrong there. ;)

Beregond 01-21-2009 10:54 PM

Oh! Before they went to Aman! I missed that.

This is hard! I can't think of anyone who came in the period between Aman and the song of the Maiar. And I don't think you can mean the Maiar, because they didn't "descend" from anyone.

Unless you mean....erm...someone like the Valaraukar?

Thinlómien 01-22-2009 01:40 AM

Just Elves?

Gollum the Great 01-22-2009 01:46 AM

I'm wondering... it wasn't some species of tree, was it? Not the Malorn?

Vaine 01-22-2009 06:47 AM

Edit:
Before the two trees were made, before they came to live on Aman.
only thing that comes to mind are the vanyar, possibly.
What other creatures existed at the years of the Lamps?

PS. Beregond:

The Valaraukar were maiar themselves..

The Might 01-22-2009 12:04 PM

Yes, the malorn also are pretty old...
But the thing is for this particular thing... it is said about it that it is said about it to be of this descent :D

Think about the time when they still used to live in Almaren or sometime afterwards...

Vaine 01-22-2009 12:38 PM

I think I just realised, when you say 'they' you mean the Valar, and not the 'thing' this puzzle is about.

... thing eh, Are you talking about the Lamps of the Valar, being of the age when the island of Almaren got destroyed by melkor?

Or possibly The Children of illuvatar, as all of them could trace their ancestry to the same age and event.

or even the inland seas of helcar and rhun?

Yes, I know - I thought since the Balrogs were a type of Maiar...meh, it was just a terrible guess. :p

The Might 01-22-2009 06:06 PM

Nope, sorry Vaine. Actually, the idea with the horses previously was not that bad... maybe think in a similar direction.

Ilya 01-22-2009 09:57 PM

Quite a stumper. is it a place, maybe? Utumno? From whence Melkor's evil flowed?

Vaine 01-23-2009 03:31 AM

But I was right about the 'they' thing?
That you mean the Valar and not the 'thing' in question?

New Suggestion:

The Kine of araw, being descendants of the cattle of Oromë.

The Might 01-23-2009 09:42 AM

Vaine wins! ;) I'll have to rep you for that when I can.

Good job there, looking forward to seeing what you have planned. :D

Funny, I had already suggested the Kine, but I edited the post with the Mearas before you had a chance to read it.

I have to admit though, I dont think I have ever read about the Kine of Araw myself, having only read the Silm once and not even finished Unfinished Tales yet.
Spent alot of time searching the Creature section @ tolkiengateway :p (Well in a sense, I did read about them, just not in one of Tolkiens books ^^)

Anyway, I'm gonna have to wait untill I get home before I can post a new vague description. I have some books to skim through...

Vaine 01-23-2009 11:37 AM

It did justice.

The Might 01-23-2009 09:46 PM

Without any real idea... the stone of Erech?
