Was it Melian?

"He who cannot cast away a treasure at need is in fetters." - Aragorn

Russandol 02-01-2003 05:02 PM

It was not Melian.

Bruce MacCulloch 02-02-2003 01:53 AM

Yavanna speaking of the inability of the olvar to defend themselves

Russandol 02-02-2003 10:52 AM

Spot on as usual Master Mac!

Eärendil 02-14-2003 05:23 AM

Okay, it´s been more than a week now, so anyone can go. (I can´t right now, haven´t got the book with me.)

Dondagnirion 02-14-2003 12:35 PM

Here goes nothing....

"Yea, with both hands shall......"

There it is, fairly easy one I think. Beren or someone will probly get it five mins after I post .
Good Luck all.

"There is no spoon."

Beren87 02-14-2003 02:49 PM

Nah, I had to wake up first.

It was Melkor to Ungoliant somewhere in Avathar.

It was easy to find as the word "Yea" doesn't occur all that often. Plus I'm right around there in my re-reading.

Dondagnirion 02-14-2003 08:23 PM

Good job Beren, your turn.

Yavanna after Morgoth and Ungoliant killed the trees maybe?

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87 02-16-2003 09:56 AM

Nope, not what I'm thinking of.

Dondagnirion 02-16-2003 10:35 AM

A hint?

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87 02-16-2003 10:58 AM

It was an elf, and it was said during a "speech" to people.

Dondagnirion 02-17-2003 10:37 AM

Im going to say that it was part of Faenors speech (i cant remember how to do the funky e with the dots for his name, sorry), when he was trying to get the elves to leave Valinor and pursue Morgoth.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87 02-17-2003 01:06 PM

Good enough!

To do that "funky thing above the e" you push ALT + 0235. E is the only letter I remember 'cause its used quite often.

Dondagnirion 02-17-2003 04:31 PM

"It is not within my power to pardon those of my own order."

Good luck all.

"There is no spoon."

Beren87 02-26-2003 09:56 PM

I found this...
Quote:

But it was not within the power of Eönwë to pardon those of his own order, and he commanded Sauron to return to Aman and there receive the judgement of Manwë.
Which is just narration, not an actual quote. But its the only thing I've found that even remotly matches..

Dondagnirion?

Eärendil 03-13-2003 04:55 AM

Um...Dondagnirion isn´t responding, so..maybe we should just move on. Do you want to post a new quote, Beren?

Dondagnirion 03-13-2003 10:36 AM

Sorry, that was it Beren. What I was thinking of anyway. I am sorry it was not really a quote, I did not have my book at the time. Your turn Beren.

Beren won't be around for a while I'm afraid (see Quiz room Note) so I will keep this thread going.

That sounds like Manwe to me. Probly wrong tho.

Annunfuiniel 03-28-2003 11:35 AM

Sorry, it wasn't Manwe. Keep guessing!

Eärendil 04-25-2003 04:52 AM

A clue perhaps?

Morgoth Bauglir 04-26-2003 04:43 PM

mandos?

Annunfuiniel 04-26-2003 11:57 PM

Nope, not Mandos either.
Oh, clue you say? Ok then: 'twas said at the moment of bitter departure.
Hope that helps.

That was Feanor, right after the Prophecy of the North was given.

(I can't believe I've never noticed this thread before, I love The Silmarillion)

Do you guys want a hint?

elven maiden Earwen 05-04-2003 07:15 PM

about Gondalin
think think.... Hurin,Beren,Tuor?

the phantom 05-04-2003 10:36 PM

Well, you would be right, except that you have three names too many. You know you can eliminate Beren, because he only saw Gondolin from a distance and never met Turgon in person.

Now, which one of the brothers said this, Hurin or Huor. Think. You can do it.

Gil-Galad 05-12-2003 03:38 PM

Hurin?

Eärendil 05-13-2003 04:21 AM

Or maybe Tuor?

the phantom 05-17-2003 10:22 PM

You've named the brother and the son so far.

Legolas 05-17-2003 11:38 PM

Huor. Sheesh guys.
