Finwe 10-04-2003 12:17 PM

Yes indeed, you are right.

Telchar 10-05-2003 10:50 AM

In what land did the Variags dwell?

Galahat 10-05-2003 01:28 PM

This is my first time posting, go easy on me
I believe it's Khand, a land lying somewhere beyond (east of) Mordor...

Telchar 10-05-2003 04:29 PM

Khand was the answer I was looking for Galahat, that earns you the right to ask the next question, and btw, welcome to the Downs

Galahat 10-07-2003 09:10 AM

Thanks! Telchar

Well, here goes nothing:

I am Child of both darkness and light.
At first I prefered the light in me, but I betrayed it, when I was confronted with darkness itself.

I hope that's not too easy..or too flawed for that matter

Gil-Galad 10-07-2003 06:35 PM

Maeglin, he is the son of Eol and Turgons sister(forgot name) and went to Gondolin without fathers permisson and confronted by Morgoth!!!

Galahat 10-07-2003 07:30 PM

That is correct!
Proceed

Gil-Galad 10-08-2003 04:38 PM

I have lead a host, yet i didn't
I have slain many kings, yet i didn't
I have protected the greatest, yet i didn't
I have died in the grand city, yet i didn't

Which Bad guy am I?

(very hard! only for expert/intermedite Tolkien fans only!)

Gothmog?

Gil-Galad 10-09-2003 03:34 PM

state which one

Nilpaurion Felagund 10-11-2003 12:33 AM

Gothmog the Lieutenant of the Balrogs?

Estanesse 10-11-2003 04:20 AM

Or is it Gothmog lord of Morgul

Gothmog Lieutenant of the Balrogs killed at least two kings, Feanor and Turgon and Gothmog lord of Morgul killed none.
Gothmog lieutenant of the balrogs protected Morgoth, Gothmog lord of Morgul protected Sauron who was great but not the Greatest.
The lieutenant of the Balrogs was killed in Gondolin. The lord of Morgul was killed, I think some were at the Battle of the Pelennor fields.

Finwe 10-11-2003 08:34 AM

Gothmog Lord of Balrogs.

Gil-Galad 10-11-2003 10:58 AM

Esta is right, it was Gothmog, Leitenit of Morgul and Gothmog killed 3 kings, Fingon, Feanor and Turgon. it is your turn

Gwaihir the Windlord 10-12-2003 01:56 AM

So... why 'didn't' he kill the three kings, Gil-Galad?

Gil-Galad 10-12-2003 08:07 AM

becasue there were 2 Gothmogs mentioned, one being the Balrog and other being the LT of Minas Morgul, the one from Minas Morgul didn't kill 3 kings but Gothmog the Balrog did

Estanesse 10-13-2003 01:53 PM

A leader I’m
Strict I was too much
Camp against camp
Big against small
For fear I have no room except one
There I stood high,Proud until the end

Gil-Galad 10-20-2003 07:29 AM

Uldor the acursed?

Estanesse 10-20-2003 08:08 AM

Nope
*Hint* he is from the third Age?

Telchar 10-20-2003 08:15 AM

Castamir?

[ October 20, 2003: Message edited by: Telchar ]

Estanesse 10-20-2003 08:25 AM

No
the person I'm looking for is late third age

[ October 20, 2003: Message edited by: Estanesse ]

Gwaihir the Windlord 10-21-2003 02:30 AM

Denethor.

Estanesse 10-21-2003 03:41 AM

right period wrong answer

Telchar 10-21-2003 05:19 AM

Maybe its Saruman? He fits in pretty good!

Estanesse 10-21-2003 07:06 AM

He does, but no that’s not the bad guy I’m looking for.

Gil-Galad 10-21-2003 07:34 AM

Er-Murazor, the Witch-King?

Telchar 10-21-2003 08:23 AM

who is Er-Murazor?

The Saucepan Man 10-21-2003 10:48 AM

Surely it's Ugluk. He was certainly a strict leader, although there was infighting (camp against camp and big against small) amongst the Orcs he "led". He fears no-one except Saruman, and he stood and fought when the Rohirrim attacked.

Estanesse 10-21-2003 12:12 PM

It is almost perfect Sauce, except the bad guy and the part about Saruman.

Hint- take "There I stood high" literal

[ October 21, 2003: Message edited by: Estanesse ]

Gil-Galad 10-21-2003 12:16 PM

Er-Murazor was the "human" name for the witch-king, before he became a NAzgul

The Saucepan Man 10-21-2003 12:29 PM

Shagrat then?

Estanesse 10-21-2003 01:07 PM

Indeed, Shagrat is the bad guy.

There was a fight (the Shagrat camp fought against the Gorbag camp) because Shagrat forbid the other orcs to search (and steal that mithril coat) Frodo. Big against small is the fight between Shagrat and Snaga. Shagrat was pretty fearless, until he saw Sam with the one ring. He ran away like a frightened schoolgirl

Telchar 10-21-2003 01:20 PM

Hmmm.... I thought that "Er-Murazor" was a name that came from a set of commercial LoTR playingcards which has nothing, what so ever, to do with anything JRR Tolkien wrote...

I plead that the quizroom sticks to what is Written in the books unless anything else is asked for...

A point of view - shared by Telchar...

[ October 21, 2003: Message edited by: Telchar ]

Gil-Galad 10-21-2003 04:07 PM

I remember reading about Er-Murazor in many tolkien related books, including silmarillion and the appendices

Telchar 10-21-2003 04:18 PM

ok...

The Saucepan Man 10-21-2003 08:29 PM

Quote:

I agree. And I also plead that side discussions be kept to a minimum on the Quiz threads.

And so to my question:

Which "Bad Guy" was driven mad by internal torment and, in his madness, breached the defences of a well-protected place?

[ October 21, 2003: Message edited by: The Saucepan Man ]

Telchar 10-22-2003 01:49 AM

That would surely be Carcharoth when he in pain and rage entered Doriath with a burning Silmaril in his belly.

The Saucepan Man 10-22-2003 07:11 AM

Ah, I knew that I should have tried to be more vague in my wording. You are of course quite right, Telchar. Please continue.

Telchar 10-22-2003 07:30 AM

This bad guy came as promised and expected, they all had so great hope in him, but he availed little in the end.

Gil-Galad 10-22-2003 08:20 PM

the witch-King? when he lead the seige on Minas Tirith? he of course failed
