Well, actually, Lord of Angmar was right, so I guess he can indeed continue.

The Saucepan Man 07-29-2003 07:12 AM

Just so there's no confusion, Lord of Angmar's question is:

At the memory of what battle do the Dwarves weep and the Orcs shudder?

gilraën 07-29-2003 07:25 AM

Azanulbizar?

Lindolirian 12-10-2003 09:33 PM

Ah ah! Here's a game I miss. Harumph...Must be Pan Man's fault.
Heck I'll take it

In what battle was "survivor of the battle" slain?

Finwe 12-10-2003 10:14 PM

Battle of Helm's Deep?

Lindolirian 12-11-2003 02:50 PM

Nope.

Telchar 12-11-2003 04:06 PM

Battle of the Peak ?

Lindolirian 12-11-2003 04:36 PM

Nope. The name of the guy who died in this certain battle means "survivor of the battle" if that helps any.

Finwe 12-17-2003 10:53 AM

Battle of Pelennor Fields?

Finwe 12-21-2003 02:21 PM

*bump*

Lindolirian 12-21-2003 08:10 PM

Sorry about the delay; you are correct.

Lindolirian 01-03-2004 12:17 PM

Ahem... Go ahead Finwe.

Finwe 01-03-2004 01:36 PM

Right-o! Just because I feel like being difficult, this question is going to be a riddle:

We are partially rabbits,
Famous for bringing chocolate,
We are partially children,
Or an old tea-drinker's word for them,
We were named for our transports,
Our nassty, nassty transports,
Killed a king we did,
Killed his son we did,
And killed his other son who came along,
Yet killed were we, rather disgracefully,
While getting drunk, and drinking some more,
The place we died is something scouts do,
Oh woe are we, Oh woe are we.

Try making sense out of that one. The answer that I'm looking for is the battle where the answer to the riddle was slain.

nobody 01-03-2004 02:10 PM

I think it was the Battle of the Camp or something like that.

Finwe 01-03-2004 03:21 PM

Yes indeed. Your go.

Gil-Galad 01-03-2004 06:34 PM

*bump*

nobody 01-13-2004 11:27 AM

Sorry about that. I have exams. Which war was going on when the entwives were lost? Should be easy.

Elrond of Rivendell 01-13-2004 12:06 PM

The War of the Last Alliance?

nobody 01-15-2004 12:19 PM

No it was before that.

Elrond of Rivendell 01-15-2004 12:38 PM

I just found a quote:
Quote:

I remember it was long ago - in the time of the war between Sauron and the Men of the Sea ...
.
Could it be the war between Sauron and the Kings of Numenor, although I don't recall its exact name?

nobody 01-17-2004 03:49 PM

Yes correct

Elrond of Rivendell 01-17-2004 04:03 PM

In which battle did Eorl ride to aid Cirion?

NightKnight 01-18-2004 04:53 AM

The Battle of Celebrant?

Elrond of Rivendell 01-18-2004 05:14 AM

Correct. Your go NightKnight.

NightKnight 01-18-2004 11:36 AM

In what battle did Ancalagon meet his doom?

Lindolirian 01-18-2004 01:45 PM

The War of Wrath in which he was slain by Earendil.

NightKnight 01-19-2004 11:21 AM

Yup, please continue.

Lindolirian 01-22-2004 06:09 PM

Name the battles in which one or more Balrog was present.

NightKnight 01-23-2004 06:40 AM

All of them? Wow...
 • I suppose there were some when the Valar defeated Melkor the first time, when the Elves where just born.
 • They defeated Ungoliant when Morgoth had stolen the Silmarils.
 • Dagor-nuin-Giliath
 • They captured Maedhros after the battle.
 • Dagor Aglareb?
 • Nirnaeth Arnoediad
 • Dagor Bragollach
 • The Fall of Gondolin
 • The one that Glorfindel fought on the way out
 • War of Wrath
 • Durin's Bane killing Durin and Nain
 • Battle of the Peak

I think that's all...

Lindolirian 01-24-2004 03:42 PM

Nice research... Go on

NightKnight 01-25-2004 06:15 AM

I'm reading Silm right now, so it wasn't that hard.

Anyway, list the battles of the WotR.

NightKnight 01-30-2004 05:07 AM

*Bump*
Anybody?

Estanesse 02-06-2004 02:56 PM

Atack of the white consel attack on Dol Guldur.
Battles of the Fords of Isen.
Helm’s Deep.
Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
Battle of Slag Hills.
The Battle of Bywater.

Did I forget one?

NightKnight 02-07-2004 04:50 AM

Several.

Also, I don't count Dol Guldur as WotR, since it was around 80 years earlier.

Estanesse 02-09-2004 04:26 AM

I would like to add the following :) , the attack on Lothlorien and the battle of Dale. Rivendell was also under attack, but I’m not sure if you count it as a war  (the same with the Ents attack on Isengard).

I'm sure I forget one or two ;)

NightKnight 02-10-2004 07:38 AM

Rivendell was never under attack. And you're still missing some. :p

Lindolirian 02-11-2004 05:01 PM

Battles of WotR

The Battles of the Fords of Isen
Battle of the Peak? (Hey, it started in defence of the Ringbearer) ;)
Battle of the Hornburg (Helm's Deep)
Battle at Pelargir (Grey Company and Dead Men v. Corsairs)
Battle of Pelennor Fields
Battle Of Dale and Erebor
Battle of the Morannon
The Invasion of the Wold by Orcs (stopped by the Ents)
Assault against Lorien by Dol Guldur
Retaliation of Lorien and the Downfall of Dol Guldur
Battle of Bywater

NightKnight 02-12-2004 02:12 PM

So close! Just one more! :D

Estanesse 02-12-2004 02:41 PM

A battle under the trees in Mirkwood

NightKnight 02-13-2004 01:02 PM

Right! Estanesse or Lindolirian may continue.
