Besides the phial of Galadriel and the little box Galadriel gave him, what item kept in his backpack, did Sam keep the longest.

Fingolfin II 12-06-2004 06:26 PM

His saucepans?

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-06-2004 09:25 PM

His box of salt?

luthien-elvenprincess 12-07-2004 04:27 AM

No to both

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-07-2004 09:10 PM

His Lórien cloak?

luthien-elvenprincess 12-15-2004 08:53 PM

Evisse the Blue 12-22-2004 04:02 PM

sorry for forgetting about this...

Who was the only one on whom the Ring had no effect?

Fingolfin II 12-22-2004 05:18 PM

Good ol' Bombadil.

Evisse the Blue 12-24-2004 01:04 PM

Yep!

Fingolfin II 01-02-2005 10:06 PM

Name two characters who each had one dream of premonition and one dream of a past event/s.

Evisse the Blue 01-03-2005 01:27 PM

Frodo (who dreamt of Gandalf on top of Orthanc and his future voyage over the sea) and Faramir (who was dreaming of the destruction of Numenor, and had the dream with the riddle: "Seek for the Sword that was broken...').

Fingolfin II 01-03-2005 06:22 PM

Exactly.

Evisse the Blue 01-04-2005 07:09 AM

Name a Third Age dwarf (most possibly the only one) who could speak Elvish.

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-05-2005 07:29 PM

A Wag.

Ori?

Evisse the Blue 01-06-2005 08:39 AM

Yep!

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-06-2005 09:45 PM

Thanks!

What killed the one who slew the first dragon?

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-10-2005 10:00 PM

Any takers?

None? :(

Mad Baggins 01-11-2005 05:25 PM

His own sword?

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-12-2005 01:19 AM

I'll take that.

So take it, Ms. Bilbo! :)

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-16-2005 08:05 PM

*bump*

Mad Baggins?

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-31-2005 02:02 AM

Commandeering the thread.

Who was the second tallest of the Children of Ilúvatar?

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-31-2005 09:48 PM

It is him.

Excellent research. ;)

The thread is yours.

Sophia?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-12-2005 01:41 PM

Yikes... forgot a thread again!

Alright, in what context and in what chapter (of LOTR) is the first reference to pipeweed (not smoking) made?

Evisse the Blue 02-12-2005 02:25 PM

In the prologue, part two (Concerning Pipe-weed), in reference to their hobbit customs.
Or maybe you meant actual chapter and not prologue?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-12-2005 10:29 PM

I did mean actual chapter. 'Twould be too easy if we were including the prologue.

Happy hunting. :smokin:

Evisse the Blue 02-13-2005 07:31 AM

That was a cool question. :D
Let's see now if I got it right:
In The Ring goes South, when Sam is going over in his mind what he has packed.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-13-2005 03:49 PM

Ah, where these questions go awry is when you find an earlier reference than I did. ;)

I checked it, and I think the thread is yours Evisse.

Evisse the Blue 02-15-2005 06:14 AM

Here follows a less clever question. ;)

Who of the fellowship journeyed the longest distance during the Quest? (to make it clearer: taking into account only the Great Years 3018, 3019, 3020)?

Lostgaeriel 03-11-2005 12:52 PM

Now I'm just guessing here, but I think it would be Gandalf - but you must consider the Quest beginning with when Gandalf advised Frodo to leave the Shire with the Ring. And I hope you don't mean under their own power (walking)?

I'm at work and sans mon livre.

So his journey is:

From Bag End to Isengard,
from Isengard to Rivendell,
from Rivendell to Lorien,
from Lorien to (some believe to Amon Hen, but I don't) Fangorn,
from Fangorn to Edoras,
from Edoras to Helm's Deep,
from Helm's Deep to Fangorn? (the movie is getting me confused),
from Fangorn back to Helm's Deep,
from Helm's Deep to Isengard,
from Isengard to Minas Tirith with a stopover somewhere in Rohan,
from Minas Tirith thru Ithilien to the Morannon,
from the Morannon to Mount Doom,
from Mount Doom to Ithilien,
from Ithilien to Cormallen, Minas Tirith, etc.
from Minas Tirith to the Gap of Rohan and on to the Tom Bombadil's,
from Tom's to Rivendell?
from Rivendell to the Grey Havens - NOPE that's after 3020 - never mind.

Evisse the Blue 03-11-2005 03:20 PM

Yes, you are correct! At least this is my conclusion too. So unless someone decides to challenge that, the thread is yours, Lostgaeriel :)

Lostgaeriel 03-12-2005 06:08 AM

I sure hope I'm not repeating a question on this thread.

I just let my book open to a page at random and amazingly there was a statement that fits under the 'rules' of this game:

Who had the longest reign of all the Kings of Gondor? (And for a bonus, what was the wisest thing he did? Just give your opinion - there's nothing definitive - I'm sure we'll agree.)

Celebriel Esgaledhel 03-12-2005 09:08 PM

I believe it was Hyarmendacil I, who reorganized Gondor's armies, openly declared war on the Haradrim, and defeated them. This is when he took on the name Hyarmendacil, meaning "south-voctor'. He reigned for 134 years.

Lostgaeriel 03-14-2005 12:13 AM

<--- hint for the bonus question

Sorry, Celebriel Esgaledhel, that's not correct. There was a King of Gondor who reigned longer than 134 years.

Here's the question again:
Who had the longest reign of all the Kings of Gondor?

Bonus question:
In your opinion, what was the wisest thing he did?

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-17-2005 04:39 AM

It was Tarondor, and he reigned for 162 years.

The smartest thing he did? Moving the King's House from Osgiliath to Minas Anor.

Lostgaeriel 03-17-2005 04:32 PM

Hi Nilpaurion Felagund!

Yes it was Tarondor, the twenty-seventh King of Gondor and nephew of King Telemnar, who had lost all his children in the Great Plague.

Personally, I thought the smartest thing he did was to plant a seedling of the White Tree of Gondor - but I guess I'm rating symbolism over practical living concerns.

Your turn.
