Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 04:11 PM

I'm guessing Squatter only because I'm too stubborn to listen to you say "pay less attention to the Dwarven part". :D

mormegil 10-19-2005 04:18 PM

*sigh* Well I guess my clue wasn't as easy as I initially though...or Fea is too obstinant to listen  . AGAIN don't pay as much attention to the dwarf part.

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 04:43 PM

Fine, I'll loosen up my obstinance. But only for you. ;) ;)

Director makes me think we're talking about a mod or an admin here, the list of which is easily accessed, but I didn't see any that made sense to me. By Dwarvish, I'm thinking perhaps it's not actually dwarfish, but more "short", which could be concise, such as one Laconic Loreman (B88). But I'm missing out on the despondent. I'm still working on that part. Am I doing better now?

mormegil 10-19-2005 04:48 PM

Still off track...He's not a mod or admin

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 04:53 PM

Not Boromir either, then?

mormegil 10-19-2005 04:55 PM

Nope, sorry but it is a male :)

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 05:02 PM

...

[confused silence]

B88's not male? Wha!?!

[enlightened silence]

:p

Gil-Galad 10-19-2005 05:47 PM

Fordim maybe?

mormegil 10-19-2005 05:48 PM

Not Fordim, this downer is under 500 posts

Eomer of the Rohirrim 10-20-2005 04:39 AM

Considering latest Downs news, it could be alatar.

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-20-2005 06:54 AM

alatar's a mod now. Check out the forum leaders page. The answer can't be him.

mormegil 10-20-2005 07:28 AM

Not correct. Are more hints needed for my jumbled clue?

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-20-2005 07:29 AM

*hopeful nod*

mormegil 10-20-2005 07:49 AM

Okay, Fea you are hopless and I despair for you. ;)

Kath 10-20-2005 07:55 AM

I've been reduced to guesses now - Keeper of Dol Guldur?

mormegil 10-20-2005 08:06 AM

Nope and that was a guess.

Crack open your friendly thesaurus and it may help.

Firefoot 10-20-2005 08:14 AM

Dwarvish - could refer to height, nick, Dwarvish RPG character, or someone who fit the role of Dwarf in a WW game. Looking at the last one, Eonwe, TGWBS, and Kuru could all fit that. Eonwe is the only one who hasn't been guessed, so him?

Despondent - Um... I'm having trouble thinking of anyone who might fit that. Mithalwen has gone through bouts of despondency, I guess, but she doesn't really fit the "Dwarvish" part. And she has more than 500 posts.

Directer - If it's not a mod or admin, I guess it could be anyone who has run a WW game. Not many of them have fewer than 500 posts, though.

Is any of this on the right track?

mormegil 10-20-2005 08:17 AM

The dwarvish part has very little to do with the actual person, though I don't dabble at all in the RPG so I wouldn't know if he has a dwarf character but I think he does play in the RPG.

No he's played in at least one WW game but never modded one.

Firefoot 10-20-2005 08:18 AM

CaptainofDespair!?

Anguirel 10-20-2005 08:27 AM

Aye, that must be it. The Dwarf from Snow White (I think) on his avatar!

Firefoot 10-20-2005 09:03 AM

I didn't even realize you were giving her a hint at all...

This record-setter is a real puzzle.

Amanaduial the archer 10-20-2005 02:22 PM

Bethberry, for her high reputation and her personal title 'Cryptic Aura'?

Firefoot 10-20-2005 02:28 PM

Nope.

mormegil 10-20-2005 02:47 PM

Would it be Heren-Istarian for his record of the highest rep giver?

Unless I unknowingly had a sex-change, I'm a male.

Mormegil, what lies thou be spreading! :p

Umm my guess is Lalwende, just a random stab.

Gil-Galad 10-20-2005 04:02 PM

hmmmm... LMP?

edit: maybe piosenniel now?

Firefoot 10-20-2005 04:38 PM

None of the above.

It doesn't have anything to do with rep.

Bergil 10-20-2005 05:14 PM

It's me!

record-setter referrs to music (I was a busker in Tol-In-Gaurhoyh Jr and contribute often to the "Theme songs" thread. In that game (and perhaps this one) I confused (puzzled) people. Excuse me if I'm being osentatious.

Firefoot 10-20-2005 05:57 PM

Sorry, Bergil, but nope.

Glirdan 10-20-2005 08:15 PM

Could it possibly be Fea?

The Saucepan Man 10-21-2005 03:17 AM

Firefoot, is it you?

You are a rcord-setter in having, or at least had, the most posts per day. And you're a real puzzle because you frequent the Quiz and Quotes Rooms.

Could this be a cheeky one?

Firefoot 10-21-2005 05:26 AM

Nah, I'm not that cheeky. :D Some of your reasoning is correct, though.

Not Fea either.

Lhunardawen 10-21-2005 05:58 AM

I'm guessing The Saucepan Man.

Far-fetched, yes?

Firefoot 10-21-2005 06:09 AM

Far-fetched or not, it's not SpM.

Bêthberry 10-21-2005 06:45 AM

This record-setter is a real puzzle.

Might it be The Spectre of Decay, aka The Squatter of Amon Rûdh? He certainly is the only Downer whose record is set in the smilies and he does love the puzzles of Quizzes and Quotes, to say nothing of cryptic clues.

mormegil 10-21-2005 06:55 AM

If some of SpM's reasoning was correct I will guess me. I'm nearly at the same amount of posts per day as you are and I'm in Palantir all the time....I'm desperate okay

Firefoot 10-21-2005 07:26 AM

Neither.

The record s/he sets is self-proclaimed.

the guy who be short 10-21-2005 11:35 AM

Folwren? Holds the record for most abstract gender. *Is still confused*

the phantom 10-21-2005 12:17 PM

Sleepy Ranger comes to mind.

He thought it was a big deal to be the last post on three pages in a row here. Soon after he upped that to four.

Then he gave ten options, which he figured was a record here.

And didn't I hear him proclaiming some sort of 9 second record one time?
