Do I get a consolation prize? :P

Cheers,

Gil-Galad 07-24-2003 05:11 PM

righty away

who were the original holders of the 3 elven rings AND what happened too them

Lyta_Underhill 07-24-2003 09:39 PM

As far as I can recall, the Three Rings were held by:
Narya: Gil-Galad, given to Cirdan, thence to Gandalf
Vilya: Elrond
Nenya: Galadriel

All three lost their power when the One Ring was destroyed. as for what happened to the holders: Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf passed West, while Gil-Galad perished at the Great Battle of Elves and Men at the end of the Second Age; Cirdan sailed the ship out of the Grey Havens. Is that good?

Cheers,
Lyta

Meneltarmacil 07-24-2003 09:47 PM

The original holders of the Three Rings...

VILYA belonged to Gil-Galad. When Gil-Galad died in the battle of the Last Alliance, Elrond recieved his ring, which he kept until he sailed into the West.

NENYA belonged to Galadriel, who kept it until she sailed into the West.

NARYA belonged to Cirdan, who gave it to Gandalf when he first arrived in Middle Earth. Gandalf kept the ring until he sailed into the West. Cirdan sailed into the West later.

Meneltarmacil is correct! even though Gil-Galad gave his ring too Elrond before he died it is still close enough and good try Lyta, you just mixed them up!!!

"i am the Gila Mobster"

Lyta_Underhill 07-25-2003 01:05 PM

Thanks, Gil-Galad! I realized that right after Meneltarmacil posted...that's what I get for being hasty! Now, I must find those Ents!

Cheers,
Lyta

Meneltarmacil 07-25-2003 04:05 PM

I am going to be unable to go online until August 1, so Lyta can ask a question instead.

Lyta_Underhill 07-26-2003 12:28 AM

Thanks, Meneltarmacil! I get a question right before and I lose, and now I get it wrong and I win! What a world! Heh heh...now, what for a question? How about this:

Where is the final resting place of Meriadoc and Peregrin?

Cheers,
Lyta

Luthien_ Tinuviel 07-26-2003 07:18 PM

Rath Dinen, in Gondor.

elven maiden Earwen 07-28-2003 05:49 PM

Yavanna228 07-28-2003 05:52 PM

Not to be completely picky, but there is an extra 'e' in the name, Earwen. Menegroth.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 07-28-2003 05:57 PM

Earwen and Yavanna are both correct. Earwen, it's your turn!

elven maiden Earwen 07-28-2003 06:22 PM

Thank you.

What river ran by Thranduil's hall?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-29-2003 02:36 AM

The 'Forest River'; perhaps in Sindarin the Tawlo or something...

Luthien_ Tinuviel 07-29-2003 09:23 AM

The river Esgalduin.

elven maiden Earwen 07-29-2003 11:02 AM

Esgalduin was the river that flowed though Dorith. It was indeed the Forest River I was looking for. Your turn Mr. Windlord

Beren87 08-08-2003 01:26 AM

Gwaihir, I do believe it's your turn, mate.

Eruanna 09-02-2003 05:04 PM

OK, thanks.

Of all the races that Tolkien wrote about, which did he say he was most like?

Amanaduial the archer 09-03-2003 11:58 AM

The hobbits?

Gil-Galad 09-03-2003 04:01 PM

Man or elve?

Eruanna 09-03-2003 04:46 PM

" I am in fact a hobbit in all but size, I like gardens, trees and unmechanized farmlands; I smoke a pipe, and like good plain food...I do not travel much."

This is what Tolkien said about himself, so Amanaduial is correct.
