Howdy! Don't worry, it's not that easy to get lost here in the 'downs... a "wrong" click will always lead to new and interesting discoveries! So just click away and see where your luck leads you to.

But looking at your name and your signature, may I suggest you visit the "Be careful with what you wish for" thread, on the Mirth section? I think you might enjoy it.

Nevertheless, welcome!!!

shieldmaiden4xsword 12-30-2006 11:43 AM

Welcome, we hope you enjoy it here. we're glad to have you here, and don't worry, after awhile you'll find your way around fine. :)

Boromir_bg 01-01-2007 03:29 PM

Hello to you all, fans of Tolkien.
I am both new and old to this site, but it's natural for you not to know me,so I should kindly introduce myself.
I am Yancho,20 1/2 years old,from Bulgaria.I am currently a law student 2nd year.
I am a fan of Tolkien since I was a child and have read several of his books (not only The Hobbit,Silmarilion and The Lord of the Rings).I am fascinated from the world of The Middle earth, but the very spirit of its characters and nature. There is no other theme which has had such a great hold on me (maybe SW for a while, but not so clsoe).
I began with the words that I'm not new to barrowdowns, because I feel that I ain't.Long ago - 4,maybe 5 years I used to write in the guestbook and to chat with some of the other fans in the barrowdowns chat. But back then my i-net connection was too slow to visit the site too often and to really explore it completely. Now I reenter this wonderful site.I hope for a warm welcome and to find/refind many friends here.
I am a big fan of Boromir,so that's why I use his name as a nickname.
Well, that's my intro.Hope to have nice time here.
Namarie.

P.S.Ah,yes - and happy new year to ya all!Hope it will be better than the last one!

Gil-Galad 01-01-2007 03:32 PM

Legate of Amon Lanc 01-01-2007 04:37 PM

Welcome Boromir, I wonder what kind of people join on the 1st January :D Well, this is quite a start, I can tell you - hope this means you are going to stay for at least the whole year 2007! I can ensure you that this community is quite pleasant (from what I can say, being here just for a month and something) and I hope that you are going to have fun here, as much as it might help you in deepening your knowledge of the mysteries of Middle-Earth... so enjoy your stay!
P.S. And also welcome to the EU ;)

Boromir88 01-01-2007 08:46 PM

Welcome to the Barrow-Downs, Boromir! :D

Amras Oronar 01-06-2007 03:11 PM

As a lot of this topic, I have to say I am new as well. I found out about the Barrowdowns through a friend who used to be on this messageboard as well, he referred to this quit a time ago and I remembered it lately, asked him about the URL and registered.
I am Dutch, and 14 years of age. I starded reading Tolkien stuff about to be honest... maybe 1.5-2 years ago :D I wasn't much of a reader for Lord Of The Rings to be honest, so after seeing the movie I didn't immiditly starded to read. By now I've read af course the LoTR's, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. For a Dutch feast very much like Christmas (Sinterklaas to be accurate, on the fifth of December.) I got the first 3 volumes of The History Of Middle-Earth and Unfinished Tales, I Finished Unfinished Tales not long ago so I am now busy (since a few days) in The Book Of Lost tales pt. 1
Well, there's not much more for me too tell (live you're life and live it well <- Sorry that's a Megadeth lyric, after the first line of it I couldn't control myself and typ the second line :D )

Boromir88 01-06-2007 03:17 PM

Welcome to the 'Downs Amras, it's good to have you. Dutch, eh? I'm actually half-dutch...my grandparents (from my father's side) came to the States from Holland. :D Again, welcome hope you enjoy.

Amras Oronar 01-06-2007 03:20 PM

You speak any Dutch? :D

shieldmaiden4xsword 01-06-2007 03:36 PM

Welcome, Amras. It's good to have all these young people here.

Enjoy it here!

Welcome back Elonve, enjoy. :D

Tar-Meneldur 01-08-2007 05:23 PM

Hello, I am Tar-Meneldur, I have been on this site many times before just I never tryed to join because I felt I knew nothing compared to what others on here may.
I hope to fill in some of the gaps that I forgot about. I have read the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and The Silmarillion, but I have not read then in a few years so I have forgotten some of it.
I hope to get back in to the wonderful world of Middle Earth.

shieldmaiden4xsword 01-08-2007 06:22 PM

Welcome to this forum!!! you'll learn alot, trust me. I did. :D

Boromir88 01-09-2007 01:48 PM

Welcome Tar-Meneldur; I hope you enjoy the 'Downs. You don't have to be some huge scholar here to enjoy the forums. :)

Tar-Meneldur 01-09-2007 04:16 PM

El Pollo Esta Muerto

Mänwe 01-09-2007 08:25 PM

A very warm welcome, or should that be a cold and clammy embrace characteristic of a corpse? Ah well, a "welcome" nonetheless!

Tar-Meneldur 01-09-2007 08:27 PM

Well I hope to be on a lot more, I still need to know were every thing is and what is what and that matter, I still need a road map in a way to find everthing.

But I do hope to get better at it as time goes by.

Tar-Meneldur 01-09-2007 08:36 PM

Thank you to all, I know that this is a site that is very good at making friends to all newcomers I know for a fact that I will be able to meet friends here, and that in it's self is wonderful.

Idril 01-09-2007 11:21 PM

Mae Govannen,

Ime Idril,
I am certainly not new to middle earth, but I am to this forum.
I hope to use this forum as a help for my further writing and study of Tolkiens work.
I write fan fiction, on lord of the rings fan fiction.
My hobbies are reading, writing, singing and music. I am a new zealander, of mostly English but a little scotch back ground. A tiny bit of Jewish blood in me too. Of which I am proud of

I have read the hobbit, LOTR,the sil and lost tales both 1 and 2.
I really enjoy explroing the people of Arda, their personalities and problems ;)

I do not plan to post very regularly on here, about once a week, but look for me!

Oh and I'm a Christian with very old fashioned world views, or so I'm told. I agree!

~Idril Celebrindal~

shieldmaiden4xsword 01-10-2007 12:02 PM

Welcome Idril. Enjoy it here.

I'm also a Christian, btw. :)

teleriferchnyfain 01-10-2007 02:52 PM

Hi! I'm also an old fan who's new here, although not Christian. Course, Tolkien was a staunch Catholic conservative himself :D I love his remark about his hippy fans, which I can't remember. Here's another one, since I can't find the one I want:
"Art moves them and they don't know what they've been moved by and they get quite drunk on it. Many young Americans are involved in the stories in a way that I'm not." ~On being asked if he was pleased by the enthusiasm of his American fans
