All right, Lind? Hello? You there? Should someone just carry on, since she doesn't seem to be coming back to this thread?

Cúdae 07-05-2003 04:39 PM

I don't know what the date was that Lind posted last, but I sent a little reminder anyway.

Lindolirian 07-05-2003 08:44 PM

Rats! I hate it when I forget a thread. Sorry about the delay.

Hmmm this is going to be easy so I'll word it a bit strangely, just to see if I can mess you up on an easy one.

In which battle did a guy in a boat smash mountains with a lizard?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-06-2003 03:01 AM

The War of Wrath. Earendil = 'guy in a boat', Ancalagon = 'lizard', Thangorodrim/Angband = 'mountains'.

Lindolirian 07-06-2003 02:23 PM

Of course!

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-07-2003 02:56 AM

Yes, well it was rather obvious =].

How many battles do we know Aragorn participated in?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 07-07-2003 05:37 AM

hm, working from memory...

Battle of the Pellenor Fields
Battle of Pelargir with the dead and so forth
Battle of the Hornburg
The battle where Ecthelion eliminated the Corsairs of Umbar (as Thorongil).
The battle before the Black Gates where Pippin was squashed by that troll

As far as I know thats it.

Sophia

Dior 07-07-2003 10:49 AM

Wow, I never expected my thread to go this far. I havn't participated in it for over a year either.

I would now if someone would ask again...

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-08-2003 02:39 AM

As far as I know, you got it, Sophia. As usual. He probably fought in a few more as Thorongil, but we don't know much about them.

Give us an easy one for Dior to answer, perhaps?

Dior 07-08-2003 08:45 AM

Just because I havn't been here in a year doesn't mean I've forgotten all my Tolkien lore...
But an easy one would be nice.

Dior 07-10-2003 01:24 PM

Ok, since she's not coming back...

Give me all the strategic maneuvers of the Battle of the Pellanor Fields made by either side. (i.e. The Rohirrim advanced in three companies from the north....)

The Saucepan Man 07-10-2003 05:40 PM

I know that it's your thread n'all Dior, but Sophia has 10 days from confirmation of her correct answer to ask a new question - see the Quiz Room Rules.

Since Sophia is a regular poster in this forum, she is likely to post a new question soon. If she hasn't done so by 18 July, then you may proceed.

Dior 07-11-2003 06:37 PM

Ok then

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 07-13-2003 12:17 AM

How many men named Hama were killed in battle at Helm's Deep?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-13-2003 12:58 AM

Er, one?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 07-13-2003 11:44 AM

*shakes head no*

Lyra Greenleaf 07-13-2003 11:46 AM

Just to check, is this supposed to be a trick question? Because in the film he was killed before they got there? Only in the book he was at the battle... Or is it a trick because we don't know? There might be a hundred Hama's!

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 07-13-2003 03:54 PM

LOL... this is not a trick question. To clarify though, I mean the place Helm's Deep, not necessarily the Battle of the Hornburg.

Sophia

Lyra Greenleaf 07-13-2003 04:09 PM

Well, then I say...none because he died in the caves (?). You'd think in a house with 4 copies of TTT I'd be able to find one? But no, we've leant them all out. So that is a wild guess from having read it 6 months ago.

Finwe 07-13-2003 08:17 PM

It's two because the first one was somehow related to King Helm Hammerhand (his first-born son I think), and the second one was Hama, the Doorward of King Theoden.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 07-14-2003 03:52 PM

That's what I was looking for. Your go, Finwe.

Sophia

Finwe 07-14-2003 04:26 PM

All righty then, here goes:

How many messengers taking messages from and to the Eorlingas were slain?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-15-2003 03:01 AM

Five. Borondir was the only survivor of the six that were sent.

Finwe 07-15-2003 08:20 AM

Nope. You got the first part right, but you forgot a later messenger.

Dior 07-15-2003 01:54 PM

6 then?

Finwe 07-15-2003 02:22 PM

You're right! I'm glad someone remembered Hirgon!

Dior 07-16-2003 11:49 AM

Lucky guess...

After Arnor's war against the Witch King was over, and the northern kingdom lost, Gondor finally sent an army to rid the north of the Nazgul and their kingdom. A decisive battle was fought to accomplish this.

My question is, what was Gondor's army comprised of, and how was the battle won?

Finwe 07-16-2003 12:50 PM

It was comprised of cavalry, led by Earnur, the Crown Prince. They won the battle because, at a crucial time, Glorfindel of Rivendell came up with a force, and the army of the Witch-king was caught between the Elves from Rivendell, the Gondorians, and the remnant of the Dunedain who managed to pull themselves together and fight.

Dior 07-16-2003 01:05 PM

I suppose I'll give it to you, but it's not entirely correct...
The army of Gondor actually had more infantry than cavalry, but the cavalry was the decicive factor in the battle. It says that the infantry was winning the battle already when the cavalry came down upon the flank of the Witch Kings army, which made it a rout. Glorfindel did contribute, but it was mostly the cavalry of Gondor that made the battle so decisive.

Finwe 07-17-2003 08:57 AM

Oh, I forgot about the infantry! Poor men, always getting forgotten! Anyway, here goes:

Who was the last King standing in the last battle of a mountain?

Dior 07-17-2003 09:20 AM

Dain Ironfoot

Finwe 07-17-2003 09:44 AM

Yep. Your go!

Dior 07-17-2003 10:35 AM

What son of the house of Hador was killed by an orc arrow through the eye in the Fifth Battle (that we know of)?

Finwe 07-17-2003 10:57 AM

Huor.

Dior 07-17-2003 11:08 AM

ya, that was really easy, but I couldn't think of a riddle-y one.

Dior 07-20-2003 12:24 AM

are ye coming back? it's your turn...

Finwe 07-21-2003 02:24 PM

Ah, ok, right.

In which Battle would all the heroes of the Men be avenged?

Lord of Angmar 07-21-2003 02:32 PM

The Final Battle

Lord of Angmar 07-21-2003 03:05 PM

At the memory of what battle do the Dwarves weep and the Orcs shudder?

The Saucepan Man 07-21-2003 06:38 PM

Lord of Angmar, you should wait until your answer has been confirmed as correct before asking the next question (see the Quiz Room rules.)

So please wait until Finwe has confirmed whether or not your answer to her question is correct before proceeding. If she hasn't confirmed within a day or so, then you can always PM her.
