This is probably a stupid guess, because I've been given lots of translations and none match exactly, but Elros?

(Simply because ross is rain and I can't find another Elf with that element)

Nope... she was "Star-Spray" I believe.
Or 'Star-foam'. 'Wing' means both, you know .

Elf-rain... hang on, I'd better have a look at the back of the Sil for this... hmm I can't seem to find the component of 'rain' anywhere. So I'll ask for another clue. Do you appear in UT exclusively?

Lyra Greenleaf 07-13-2003 06:08 AM

This sindarin dictionary has rain as "ross", but I don't know how accurate it is.

El as a prefix can mean star, but it's also translated as "Elf", for example Elrohir (Elf knight).

What pleasing alias did Sauron assume to trick the Elves into collaborating with him?

Holbytlass 09-25-2003 06:52 AM

Annatar

Evisse the Blue 09-25-2003 10:52 AM

That's the one.

Holbytlass 09-27-2003 09:23 AM

What is the name of the greatest heirloom of the house of Hador, made by Dwarves? Oh, and also what it is.

Tarien Ithil 09-28-2003 12:39 PM

It was the Dragon-helm of Dor-lomin, wasn't it?

Holbytlass 09-28-2003 02:28 PM

It was, your go.

Tarien Ithil 10-01-2003 11:18 AM

Thanks Hobytlass!

What was the name of the sword of Turin Turambar?

Arestevana 10-01-2003 01:27 PM

I believe it was Gurthang, before called Anglachel.

Niluial 10-01-2003 04:19 PM

Wasnt it first Gorthol (Dragon-helm) and then was called Mormegil the Black Sword (I’m probably wrong)

Nilly

Tarien Ithil 10-03-2003 11:47 AM

Yes, it was Gurthang! Your Go, Arestavana

Oh, and Nil, don't underestimate yourself!! You know more than you think. Turin himself was called Mormegil and so on, but good guess!

The name of what character (in Tolkien's works, of course) contains a pun on a modern sport?

Eruanna 10-22-2003 03:08 PM

The only one I can think of is Fingolfin.

Arestevana 10-22-2003 05:20 PM

Right sport, wrong name.

NightKnight 10-23-2003 12:44 PM

Golfimbul, the orc chieftain leading orcs into the Shire. He was defeated by Bandobras Took.

Arestevana 10-23-2003 03:27 PM

Correct, NightKnight, and welcome to the downs.

NightKnight 10-24-2003 01:39 PM

Thank you Arestevana.

That is correct.

What was the name King Elessar took for his house?

Sleepy Ranger 10-26-2003 10:28 AM

King Elessar took "Telecontar" as the name for his house. Which is "Strider" in sindarian I think.

Elentarimir 10-26-2003 05:25 PM

Correct Sleepy, your go.

Sleepy Ranger 10-27-2003 06:22 AM

Name any four names of Aragorn. I know its easy but I can't think up anything else as I don't have my books and won't get them back for a while.

NightKnight 10-27-2003 10:45 AM

Estel, Strider, Wingfoot, Thorongil.

Sleepy Ranger 10-27-2003 11:09 AM

Yes those are 4.
Your turn

NightKnight 10-27-2003 11:29 AM

NightKnight 10-27-2003 11:43 AM

Yup, carry on.

Sleepy Ranger 10-27-2003 11:49 AM

What is the name of the Took who was said to have gone to the sea in his youth?
