Gil-Galad 04-26-2004 06:45 AM

umm...did i get it right?

Anorial 04-26-2004 07:48 AM

No, you didn't guess anything. Yes, they taunted them, but what did they call them?...they had a specific name with which they referred to them.

Lindir 04-26-2004 02:31 PM

Was it cupcakes?
I thought I heard that somewhere. :p

Anorial 04-26-2004 06:45 PM

Lindir got it! :)

Kath 04-30-2004 02:57 AM

Is Lindir going to answer?

Anorial 04-30-2004 07:54 AM

Lindir, now you've got to ask a question :)

Samwise 04-30-2004 08:09 PM

Lindir's got 6 more days to answer.

Kath 05-01-2004 02:33 PM

Yes but we're impatient.

Sirithheruwen 05-01-2004 05:09 PM

Try PMing Lindir. I have PMing disabled, so I can't, but that's the best way.

Orcrist 05-01-2004 05:56 PM

I PMed Lindir, so hopefully we'll get a question soon. This long wait probably means he has a really hard question :D

Edit: Hey folks, don't waste bandwidth with your impatience. (This is not aimed particularly at you Orcrist. I'm just editing to save making a new post.)

Lindir 05-02-2004 11:19 AM

Sorry to keep ya'll waiting. thank you Orcrist for PMing me, I haven't been able to get to the computer this week. OK

What did the art staff put on the leaves in Rivendell to make it look like autumn?

Anorial 05-03-2004 06:50 PM

Food coloring?

Orcrist 05-03-2004 07:44 PM

A shot in the dark...

Blood? :D

Samwise 05-03-2004 09:19 PM

Paint?

Kath 05-04-2004 08:23 AM

Gold spray paint?

Lindir 05-04-2004 02:24 PM

Nope. (There's 3 things that I know of, but you'll only have to list one.)

Hint: 2 of them are spices.

Anorial 05-04-2004 06:11 PM

paprika!

Orcrist 05-04-2004 08:42 PM

Nutmeg :D

Anorial 05-04-2004 08:56 PM

Saffron! (though unlikely cause it would've cost a fortune). Curry powder!

Samwise 05-04-2004 09:01 PM

To borrow from Simon and Garfunkel......

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme? J/K :D

Cinnamon?

Lindir 05-05-2004 02:36 PM

yep. Anoriel's right. paprika. They also used mustard powder, or something like that.
Your turn :p

Anorial 05-05-2004 09:06 PM

Very cool....who would've thought of that!?!? "We need the forest to look like autumn but we aren't allowed to do anything to harm the forest." "Let's use paprika!" Man, people can be very smart.

Okay, here's one for the mathematical set: What was the minimum amount of silicone Weta was using daily?

Kath 05-06-2004 01:28 PM

Was it something like two tonnes a day?

Lindir 05-06-2004 02:38 PM

Was it 3 tubs?
(I think they call it tubs...if not, barrels...oh whatever. )

Anorial 05-06-2004 10:26 PM

Nope, not 2 tonnes and not 3 tubs or barrels. It's measured in gallons

Sleepy Ranger 05-07-2004 01:36 AM

um, minimum..... 1 gallon?

Kath 05-07-2004 03:42 AM

OK 2 gallons then.

Anorial 05-07-2004 06:58 AM

Nope, not 1 or 2 gallons...isn't that like a milk jug or two? Think about what they were using it for (feet!) and how many of those they needed and were making. (lots!)

Kath 05-07-2004 03:03 PM

2000 gallons!

Lindir 05-07-2004 03:12 PM

150 or 200 gallons?

Anorial 05-07-2004 06:06 PM

Nope to all guesses ;) So how does this work? Do I let you guys struggle or spill the beans cause you're obviously guessing? :p

The Saucepan Man 05-07-2004 06:12 PM

I would have thought that people should be up to doing a bit of research. ;)

Son of Númenor 05-08-2004 06:51 AM

The results of my doing 'a bit of research' :p

Well, I'm stumped. I searched google on 'weta silicone', 'weta lord of the rings silicone daily use', and about 1000 other combinations. I even went to www.lordoftherings.net and read all the production articles. Short of calling a Weta executive, I can't think of much else to do! :p

symestreem 05-08-2004 09:29 AM

The Lord of the Rings: the Making of the Movie Trilogy by Brian Sibley yields the following information:

Quote:

"Weta became the biggest users of silicone in New Zealnd," says Tania. "We were getting through at least a 44-gallon drum every single day!"
p. 128, Making Faces

Anorial 05-08-2004 11:04 AM

symestreem got it! :)

Orcrist 05-18-2004 08:29 PM

Have fun with this one...

Who was Frodo's scale double?

Bombadil 05-18-2004 08:43 PM

i believe his name was Karen?

Orcrist 05-18-2004 09:05 PM

Wrong spelling, and I need his last name. ;)

Anorial 05-19-2004 07:10 AM

Kiran Shah :)

Orcrist 05-20-2004 08:22 PM

Go ahead Anorial ;)
