Greetings and Salutations Valier and Elu Ancalime. There are many activities you can find here at the downs, from the Chapter-by-Chapter book discussions, Scene-by-Scene movie discussions, if you want to get out of the "serious" and into the "mirth" perhaps Crazy Captions, or the Werewolf Games will suit you. Plus there's on going RPG's. Enjoy your stay. (P.S. And don't forget to pop into the Quiz Forums :D )

Thinlómien 12-16-2005 07:20 AM

Welcome, Valier and Elu! Enjoy being dead, as we (or nowadays actually only I) say here.

If you're interested, there are lots of interesting discussions in the Books-forum and don't forget to participate in a Werewolf-game...

And welcome Valier and Elu too!

Boromir88 12-18-2005 07:37 AM

Hello Ari, seeing as Rune has already mentioned the quiz room, I'll mention the rest, for there are many more activities here at the downs:

stormy 12-18-2005 12:04 PM

hi

hello... I'm Ken

Stormy is an old nickname in my family and I often use it on message forums. It was my grandfather's nickname when he was in WWII.

I have been a fan for probably 30 years, starting when I saw The Hobbit cartoon when I was a little kid. It really took off when I was 18 and a friend lent me the LOTR books. I read them then, again when I was 25, listened to unabridged audio books while working at my job a few years ago after The Two Towers movie came out, and I am now reading them once again and starting to check out The Silmarillion. Rather then reading it from cover to cover, [Silmarillion] I find myself skipping around and reading chapters out of order. I also like to study maps of middle earth.

I think LOTR is a beautiful work of literary art, and one of the greatest of our time. Long after many pop icons of the 20th century are forgotten in time, Rings will still be celebrated like a classical overture or a Greek epic.

Estelyn Telcontar 12-18-2005 12:51 PM

Welcome, stormy - and all other newcomers! You'll find plenty of people around here who agree with your opinion of LotR as a great work of literature! Look around and see where your favourite topics are being discussed and join in. If you have any questions that aren't answered in the Forum FAQ thread (at the top of the Novices and Newcomers main forum page), please feel free to send me or one of the other moderators a PM. We'll be happy to help. Hope you enjoy yourself here!

Gil-Galad 12-18-2005 07:05 PM

Rune Son of Bjarne 12-27-2005 06:03 PM

Welcome Naria.

I hope you will enjoy your death at the Downs among us Wights.

I see you have allready found your way to the RPG's. You may want to take a look at the Quiz Room or Mirth if you want to be silly and talk Tolkien at the same time. If you are more interestet in serious talks then the book and movie sections will be great.

And Happy New Year everybody! (Yes, I know this is the heretic New Year, but no can do...)

Morwen_Istaria 01-04-2006 06:33 AM

Hi, I'm New Too

Hi all! I am new to this group, but not to Tolkien. I first read his books years ago, and have read them almost every year since. I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I have written a couple of articles recently about the symbolism of The Ring, the map of MiddleEarth and how they pertain to spiritual evolution. I'd love any feed back.

Welcome, Morwen! We hope you will enjoy reading and posting on the Downs forum! One request - we ask members to limit links to their own sites to their signatures, where they can be seen when you post. That keeps the posts from becoming spamming grounds. :)

Glirdan 01-06-2006 02:15 PM

Well Gil, what can you say? It's a good quote. :D

Oh, and has anyone seen that fluttering blue (can't forget dead) butterfly of ours? She seems to have disapered and I KNOW she's home. I just talked to her not to long ago.

Lolidir 01-07-2006 12:41 AM

Hey everyone welcome to the Downs. Hope you enjoy it around here with all these fine dead people talking about only the best books in the world. Try out some of the The Last to First Letter Middle Earth Game, or if you really get into it there are some quiz rooms around here somewhere that have some awesome stuff.

O and by the way, I so watched that movie today and just got on and saw that that quote was on. Empire Strikes Back.
