Hey! cellos kinda fascinate me too! And I also consider learning to play one a goal as well!

I also play the violin, but I have to put it up for repairs *wipes tears*

Rae: Hmm. Mother in law. I'm sure she loves you...in her own little way

Joy: Doesn't Frank Peretti have a new book series out? Have you read them ? They any good? I found "The Prophet" to be a great book.

evil scales...
Yes, I hate scales and theory. They're the reason I quit piano at grade 7. I want to play cello, but I'm doing too much other stuff right now, and I really have to work on my French horn if I want to play in my town's orchestra next year. Also, the only person who teaches cello (my best friend's dad, and the person I said I admire) is a very scary teacher. I'm sure I'd start crying before every lesson....

*Varda* 11-04-2002 04:20 PM

Woohoo! Now being officially 16, I'll have to go back and edit my last post, or remain 15 forever! Eeek..

Sorry, little bit hyper.

The "really big ones" are basses.

Ithaeliel, there is a small error in your last post. What you meant to say was:

FRENCH HORN PLAYERS AND CELLISTS RULE THE WORLD!

Just thought I'd mention that.

Edit: French hornists..? French horn players..? Help...?

Anyone play the oboe? It is the most horribly, stupid instument on earth and sometimes I just like to throw it at the wall, and make large, lovely scratches and...Ok, I'll stop now.

TolkienGurl 11-05-2002 04:46 PM

I played the clarinet from 5th to 8th grade. I was good at it, but my mom sold it at our last garage sale for $100. I always said it sounded like a dying cow.

I "play" the flute,(and I use the word in the loosest sense imaginable) I have a playing test on Thursday that I'm going to fail, and I'm thinking of planting a bomb in my flute case and giving it to my band teacher. Ok, enough ranting on how dumb the flute is.

Oh! hope it ain't too late:

Happy Birthday Varda!

"All you need is love."
---John Lennon

"It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To get the Titanic turned back around."

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear,
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come."
--Julius Caesar in "Julius Caesar"

"Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs;
Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes;
Being vexed, a sea nourished with loveing tears.
What is it else? A madness most discreet,
A choking gall, and a preserving sweet."
--Romeo Montague in "Romeo And Juliet"

"Work like you have never been tired
Love like you have never been hurt
And dance like no one is watching."

Additional comments:
If love is but a dream, then, when in love, may I never wake.

If life is but a vision and there is more, then let more come when it comes, for I will welcome it with open arms.

You only need to do two things in this life: love and breath. Do most as intensely and as often as you can.

Follow what your heart desires...unless it desires to become a cannibal, ripping out and destroying hearts around you.

Ooh la la, Rimbaud, I wonder: what is your take on perception itself if you try to perceive through a thick haze of, um, "pipeweed" smoke?

Vanima, babe, I really dig the quotes you put up. And John Lennon has it right, he really does. But even he himself has said that the song is an over-simplification. Then again, maybe he is too harsh of a judge on himself.

Frieda, you MUST find a quotation to live by. Otherwise, it will find you!

Galadrie1, French horn players are pretty cool, too.

And now for some puns that only a string player or symphony member would get!

Q:What's the difference in size between a violin and a viola?
A: No difference, just the violin(ist)'s head is bigger.

Q: What does the average bassist get on an I.Q. test?
A: Drool

Q: Why does a director only take 15-minute breaks at rehearsals?
A: So he doesn't have to retune his entire cello section.

Hehe... lame to some, but 'some' I am not!

Not for me, though. It seems that the group ran out of names by the time they realized that I didn't have one yet. :p

As for the jokes, they're not exactly original. I remember our clinic conducter telling those!

Not that I mind, though. But you did leave out the violas. So here's one:

Q: What's the difference between an accomplished viola player and a professional viola player?

A: An accomplished viola player doesn't exist. (Ok, I hope no viola players take offense)

Galadrie1 11-08-2002 03:54 PM

Hee hee, those jokes are good (though kind of stupid... but that's the point of jokes ). Once someone told me a whole ton of symphony jokes (so many I was screaming at them to stop) but I can't remember any of them! Hmm.... If I remember any I'll post them.

That's where I got them, though! And yours was from someone else who I can't think of right now!

Brinniel 11-09-2002 12:42 PM

I believe the viola joke is from either a former orchestra teacher or some other orchestranian who was trying to tease a certain viola player. ;)

Neferchoirwen 11-11-2002 04:19 AM

Teasing viola players?!
WHO dares tease a viola player? We have enough talent to be the entire orhcetra's inner voice.

I may be retired, but once a viola player always a viola player!

Dúnethalath Taurendor 11-11-2002 04:24 AM

Or a musician for that matter.... Musicians teasing musicians, that's terrible (even when I see it happening between trumpets and clarinets everytime. Those darn trumpetplayers think they're so good, while we have to wait for them to do the practicing they didn't do at home.. )
