Legolas 03-06-2003 02:32 PM

No, and no.

alaklondewen 03-06-2003 02:40 PM

Is it Legolas to Aragorn and Gimli on their hunt? I don't have the books with me, but I see him saying it in my head.

Legolas 03-06-2003 03:25 PM

Yes, it was Legolas to Aragorn and Gimli about the Uruks.

alaklondewen 03-07-2003 12:59 PM

Thank you.

Is that Theoden or Eomer about the wild men of Dunharrow that fought for Saruman with the Uruk-hai.

alaklondewen 03-10-2003 01:57 PM

Nope, sorry.

Lostgaeriel 03-11-2003 11:08 AM

That's Gamling speaking to Éomer (& Aragorn) about the wild men of the hills, at Helm's Deep. (Gamling had something in common with Tolkien - he knew ancient languages. He translates the 'bellowing' for Éomer.)

Quote:

‘Yet dawn is ever the hope of men,’ said Aragorn.
‘But these creatures of Isengard, these half-orcs and goblin-men that the foul craft of Saruman has bred, they will not quail at the sun,’ said Gamling. ‘And neither will the wild men of the hills. Do you not hear their voices?’
‘I hear them,’ said Éomer; ‘but they are only the scream of birds and the bellowing of beasts to my ears.’
‘Yet there are many that cry in the Dunland tongue,’ said Gamling. ‘I know that tongue. It is an ancient speech of men, and once was spoken in many western valleys of the Mark. Hark! They hate us, and they are glad; for our doom seems certain to them. “The king, the king!” they cry. “We will take their king. Death to the Forgoil! Death to the Strawheads! Death to the robbers of the North!” Such names they have for us. Not in half a thousand years have they forgotten their grievance that the lords of Gondor gave the Mark to Eorl the Young and made alliance with him. That old hatred Saruman has inflamed. They are fierce folk when roused. They will not give way now for dusk or dawn, until Théoden is taken, or they themselves are slain.’

alaklondewen 03-11-2003 03:14 PM

Yes! It's nice to see you back, Lostgaeriel. I do believe you've been missing?

Well, not missing so much as refraining from playing Quotable Quotes. I've been in the Quiz Room answering a riddle or maybe two, and writing Song Parodies that no one will appreciate.

Ah, right, a quote from The Two Towers. Hmmm.

Is this Aragorn?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 03-11-2003 09:46 PM

Gandalf?

Silmarien 03-11-2003 11:13 PM

Treebeard?

Lostgaeriel 03-11-2003 11:13 PM

No, no and no again. No one of such reknown.

Silmarien 03-11-2003 11:15 PM

No, It's Eomer isn't it?

Lostgaeriel 03-11-2003 11:54 PM

No. We're talking 'bit part', here.

Lostgaeriel 03-12-2003 08:40 PM

HINT for Rochelle, Horse-Maiden of the Shire & Silmarien:

You've been on the wrong side of the River.

Annunfuiniel 03-13-2003 12:56 AM

Found it! It's Mablung (to Frodo and Sam) in Ithilien.

Lostgaeriel 03-14-2003 12:34 PM

Well done, Annunfuiniel!

Yes, that was Mablung, Ranger of Ithilien, as he and Damrod guarded Frodo and Sam while Faramir left to lead the ambush of the Southrons. (See near the end of 'Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit'.)

Annunfuiniel 03-14-2003 01:04 PM

Great, thanks! These quotes are somewhat difficult for me as I haven't read the books in English. But anyway, here's the next one:

Better not to know I expect.

alaklondewen 03-15-2003 09:47 PM

I believe this is Sam in the Dead Marshes after Gollum mentions he tried to touch the 'people' in the water. Oooh...I don't want to know why he was trying to get to them either. *shudders*

Annunfuiniel 03-16-2003 01:09 AM

Yep, Sam said something in that fashion. But this line was used by someone else too!

alaklondewen 03-16-2003 12:49 PM

You're right, of course. I forgot about Merry and Pippin. This particular quote is by Merry, and it refers to that terrible orc-draught they were forced to drink.

Annunfuiniel 03-16-2003 01:57 PM

Yes, alaklondewen, well found!
You have the honors to continue. *bows*

alaklondewen 03-16-2003 03:53 PM

Thank you.

But I have never heard this one.

Catherine 03-16-2003 03:54 PM

Legolas?

alaklondewen 03-16-2003 05:48 PM

Nope.

Rochelle 03-16-2003 06:15 PM

Treebeard?

alaklondewen 03-16-2003 09:50 PM

Still no.

elven maiden Earwen 03-16-2003 09:58 PM

Theoden??

ps. am i right in a new game, in the quiz room??

alaklondewen 03-16-2003 11:42 PM

Not Theoden.

Dondagnirion 03-18-2003 12:25 PM

Was it Saruman?

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Rochelle 03-18-2003 02:27 PM

Hmmm...perhaps Faramir?

alaklondewen 03-18-2003 03:39 PM

No and no. Do you need a hint?

Rochelle 03-18-2003 03:41 PM

*lol* I think a hint would do us good.

Beren87 03-18-2003 04:33 PM

I think that it was Pippin to Gandalf about some kind of rhyme. I couldn't find it but that's what comes to mind.

alaklondewen 03-18-2003 06:46 PM

Yay! Beren is right! *hands him a shiny sticker and a red sucker* Take it away.

Beren87 03-22-2003 09:52 PM

Give me something shiny and I'll be occupied for hours...

Elanor 03-23-2003 03:58 AM

That was Theoden, telling Gandalf that he wanted to go to war himself, and not stay behind.

Beren87 03-23-2003 12:10 PM

And that's correct Elanor.

Elanor 03-23-2003 02:49 PM

Thanks. Ok, let me think...
