Whats that supposed to mean?

Gil-Galad 10-26-2003 10:39 AM

A. Mouth of Sauron
B. Shelob
C. Smaug
D. Sauron
E. Witch-King

Which of these was Gandalf afraid of if something happened too them?

Sleepy Ranger 10-26-2003 10:41 AM

Gil-Galad I don't quite get the question.

I believe that he was referring to the fact that you posted at 3AM.

And Gil-Galad, you'll need to restate the question.

Gil-Galad 10-29-2003 06:22 PM

Here it is again

A. Mouth of Sauron
B. Shelob
C. Smaug
D. Sauron
E. Witch-King

Which of these 'creatures" was Gandalf most afraid of?

Sleepy Ranger 10-30-2003 03:15 AM

B. Shelob

It wasn't 3 A.M here.

Gil-Galad 10-31-2003 09:53 AM

Nope!

NightKnight 10-31-2003 12:29 PM

Smaug, because of what he could have done if Thorin & co hadn't stopped him.

Beren87 10-31-2003 03:17 PM

D. Sauron

But even that isn't really logical. Gandalf feared a trial would come between the himself and Sauron, and he was not sure that he was ready for such a test. To say Gandalf was "afraid" of anything wouldn't really be a true statement. He was more fearful of testing himself.

Gil-Galad 10-31-2003 09:07 PM

NightKnight! right thing, but wrong reason! try again

Gil-Galad 11-06-2003 06:24 PM

try again!!!

Morgoth Bauglir 11-16-2003 08:43 PM

D. Sauron

he WAS afraid of sauron in the very begining, in valinor. this is why Manwe chose him to go to middle earth.

... need i say?

Estanesse 11-23-2003 04:02 PM

Are you looking for a quote from the books or an interpretation?

Gil-Galad 11-24-2003 06:03 PM

It was mentioned i nthe books, maybe the appendics...

Estanesse 11-25-2003 06:51 AM

D: Sauron

The Dragon Sauron might use with terrible effect. How then could the end of Smaug be achieved?

is this what you are referring to??

NightKnight 11-25-2003 11:57 AM

That's kinda what I said.

Gil-Galad 11-25-2003 04:41 PM

... Your close but it isn't Sauron!

Telchar 11-25-2003 05:50 PM

Quote:

But Olórin declared that he was too weak for such a task, and that he feared Sauron. Then Manwë said that that was all the more reason why he should go, and that he commanded Olórin (illegible words follow that seems to contain word "third"). But at that Varda looked up and said: "Not as the third;" and Curumo remembered it.

Im not sure what you're looking for Gil-galad, but I think these are the lines concerning Gandalfs fear, that the others are refereing to.

I think its safe to say that Gandalfs greatest fear was Sauron - in regard to Smaug, his fear was what Sauron could use the dragon for.

Gil-Galad 11-26-2003 04:55 PM

!!! if its not sauron or shelob!!! and your very close with your previous anwser!!!! then it should be easy!!!

Telchar 11-26-2003 05:11 PM

Sleepy Ranger 11-27-2003 02:46 AM

Didn't I already answer Shelob? And checking my previous posts I see that I did I did answer Shelob.

Gil-Galad 11-27-2003 08:06 AM

yes you anwsered shelob and i said it was wrong!!!

The Saucepan Man 11-27-2003 08:12 AM

This is straying into the realm of farce. Could we please wrap this one up and move on?

Thank you.

Telchar 11-27-2003 08:28 AM

This one is getting far too idiotic for me! I think Gil should give his answer (and explain it!!!) Then he can post a new question.

Cheers T

Gil-Galad 11-27-2003 04:40 PM

A. Mouth of Sauron
B. Shelob
C. Smaug
D. Sauron
E. Witch-King

Which of these 'creatures" was Gandalf most afraid of?

in appendices, it says Gandalf needed way to defeat Smaug, becaseu Sauron might use it with terrible effect, so gandalf was afraid of Smaug!!!

Telchar was closet so he can go

Gil-Galad 11-27-2003 04:55 PM

and i didn't mean closet as in where you put stuff, i meant very near too anwser way.. yah

Telchar 11-27-2003 05:05 PM

OK - New question:

Which of these should post the next question?

A: NightKnight - for giving - Gil-galads answer, but for another reason than Gil-galads?

B: Beren87 - for comming with an IMO much better answer - which he argued for?

C: Morgoth Bauglir - for backing up Beren87s fine answer?

D: Estanesse - for giving the IMO better answer + the reason Gil-galad was looking for?

E: NightKnight - For crying? Which I can understand

F: Telchar - for finding references in the books, but refusing to give the answer Gil-galad was looking for, because the answer was wain.

G: Saucepan Man - for trying to stop the nonsense?

Please wote! whoever has more wotes when I wake up on december 1, can ask the next question.

The Saucepan Man 11-28-2003 06:53 AM

OK, let's see if we can carry on this game without any further antagonisation.

I suggest that NightKnight asks the next question, as he was the one who actually got the answer right.

Telchar 11-28-2003 11:41 AM

Ok so your wote is A!

Mine is B

Estanesse 11-28-2003 12:51 PM

I vote G: Let’s stop this nonsense

If someone votes E does that count as a second vote for NightKnight

The Saucepan Man 11-28-2003 06:25 PM

Come on folks, give it up.

If this thread continues in its current vein, I'm going to close it. So, let's just wait for NightKnight to ask the next question, shall we?

NightKnight 11-28-2003 06:34 PM

Which of these is not a name for Aragorn?

A. Thorongil
B. Estel
C. Ringarë
D. Wingfoot

Arestevana 11-28-2003 07:11 PM

C) Ringare, was never a name of Aragorn. It is the Quenya name for the month which corresponds to December.

NightKnight 11-29-2003 07:23 AM

Right you are! Please continue...

Arestevana 11-29-2003 11:55 AM
