Look closely to get the right speaker for this one:
Quote:

---- - --- -- -----------, ---- -- -- ---- ---- --- --------

Guinevere 05-10-2006 02:27 AM

Let's start with A

Estelyn Telcontar 05-10-2006 02:37 AM

---- a --- -- -------a---, ---- a- -- ---- ---- --- --------

Guinevere 05-10-2006 02:46 AM

Now some invigourating morning T would be welcome!

Estelyn Telcontar 05-10-2006 03:09 AM

A T

T-time! As long as it's not mourning tea...

---- a --t -- ---t---a---, ---t at -- ---t t--- --- --------

Tuor of Gondolin 05-10-2006 07:43 AM

"r"s?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-10-2006 07:57 AM

A R T

---- a --t -- ---t-r-a---, ---t at -- ---t t--- --r --------

Tuor of Gondolin 05-10-2006 08:24 AM

"o"s?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-10-2006 08:27 AM

---- a -ot o- ---t-r-a---, ---t at -- ---t t--- -or --------

Guinevere 05-10-2006 01:26 PM

Estelyn Telcontar 05-10-2006 01:46 PM

+ N

---- a -ot o- ---t-r-an--, ---t at -- ---t t--- -or ------n-

Guinevere 05-10-2006 02:15 PM

How about S ?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-11-2006 12:53 AM

+ S

Good choice!

S--- a -ot o- --st-r-an--, --st at -- --st t--- -or s-----n-

Tuor of Gondolin 05-11-2006 08:15 AM

"g's?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-11-2006 08:20 AM

G - but we has only one

S--- a -ot o- --st-r-an--, --st at -- --st t--- -or s-----ng

Guinevere 05-11-2006 02:03 PM

It looks like:
"Such a lot of disturbance, just at my best time for sleeping."

(I had figured that out already yesterday) but I don't know who said it... I thought it might be Psamathos, but I couldn't find the quote (yet)

Estelyn Telcontar 05-11-2006 02:21 PM

You have the quote right, the actual speaker as well. Finding it is rather tricky, I know; it's a quote within a quote. Do you want to find the exact source, or is having found the correct answer enough for you?

Guinevere 05-13-2006 01:14 PM

Now you've confirmed that the speaker is Psamathos, I could find the actual quote:
It's the Man in the Moon quoting from a letter from Psamathos. He complains that Artaxerxes had dug him out of the sand in the middle of the afternoon:

"Such a lot of disturbance, just at my best time for sleeping, and all about a wretched little dog."

Here comes the next challenge:

"---/ ---/ --/ -/ ------/!" (.....) "---/, ---/, -----/ --/ -/ -----/ --/ ---/ -----/: -/ -----/ ----/ -------/ --/ --/, -------/ --/, ----/ --/ ---------/ -'--/ ---------/."

Estelyn Telcontar 05-13-2006 03:15 PM

N, please

Guinevere 05-13-2006 03:30 PM

"---/ ----/ --/ -/ ------/!" (.....) "-n-/, ---/, -----/ --/ -/ ---n-/ -n/ ---/ -----/: -/ ---n-/ ----/ ----n--/ --/ --/, ----n--/ --/, ----/ --/ -------n-/ -'--/ --------n/."

Estelyn Telcontar 05-13-2006 03:49 PM

A good start, but too little evidence so far; to quote the parson, "A little closer inspection will be required."

S please

Guinevere 05-13-2006 03:56 PM

"---/ ----/ -s/ -/ ------/!" (.....) "-n-/, ---/, -----/ -s/ -/ s--n-/ -n/ ---/ ----s/: -/ s--n-/ ----/ ----n-s/ --/ --/, ----n-s/ --/, ----/ --/ s------n-/ -'--/ --------n/."

Estelyn Telcontar 05-14-2006 10:28 AM

I think it's T-time again...

Guinevere 05-15-2006 02:43 AM

"T--/ ----/ -s/ -/ ------/!" (.....) "-n-/, ---/, t----/ -s/ -/ s--nt/ -n/ t--/ ----s/: -/ s--nt/ t--t/ ----n-s/ --/ --/, ----n-s/ --/, ----/ --/ s---t--n-/ -'--/ -----tt-n/."

Estelyn Telcontar 05-15-2006 06:10 AM

P, please

Guinevere 05-15-2006 06:22 AM

No P, sorry ! (but I can guess where you wanted to put it! ;) )

Estelyn Telcontar 05-15-2006 06:25 AM

Let's try a vowel then - A, please

Guinevere 05-15-2006 06:43 AM

voilą !

"T--/ ----/ -s/ a/ -a----/!" (.....) "An-/, -a-/, t----/ -s/ a/ s--nt/ -n/ t--/ ----s/: a/ s--nt/ t-at/ ----n-s/ --/ --/, ----n-s/ --/, ----/ --/ s---t--n-/ -'--/ -----tt-n/."

Estelyn Telcontar 05-15-2006 09:33 AM

I've found it! That telltale word included neither a P nor an A, so by elimination, I found that it had to be "scent"! And that is a rare word in the minor works.
Quote:

'The work is a marvel!' he said. 'And, Dad, there is a scent in the bells: a scent that reminds me of, reminds me, well of something I've forgotten.'
That's Ned, speaking to his father Smith of Wootton Major.

Guinevere 05-17-2006 01:34 AM

I knew you'd get it now! :)
(I picked this quote because of the flower-scents of spring right now.)

Estelyn Telcontar 05-17-2006 04:29 AM

Not quite so pleasantly scentful:
Quote:

'-- ---,' (.... .....,) '---- ---- - -----. --- ---- -- ----- ---- --- -- - ----?'

Tuor of Gondolin 05-17-2006 10:39 AM

"r"s?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-17-2006 10:42 AM

S"R"y, there R'nt any Rs...

zifnab 05-17-2006 02:27 PM

I'd like to buy an 'e'.

Estelyn Telcontar 05-18-2006 12:56 AM

Eeek!

'-- ---,' (.... .....,) '---- ---e - ----e. --- ---- -e ---e- ---- --e -- - ---e?'

Guinevere 05-18-2006 03:24 AM

How about A's ?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-18-2006 04:05 AM

A E - all vowels?

'-- -a-,' (.... .....,) '---- ---e - ----e. --- --a- -e ---e- --a- --e -- a ---e?'

Tuor of Gondolin 05-18-2006 07:20 AM

"o"h,s, why not?

Estelyn Telcontar 05-18-2006 09:28 AM

A E O

'-- -a-,' (.... .....,) '---- -o-e - --o-e. --- --a- -e -o-e- --a- --e -- a -o-e?'

Guinevere 05-18-2006 09:37 AM

S please
