I assign toast.

Mmmm, wether it's a crusty sourdough bread with sharp cheddar cheese, a crispy wheat bread with cinnamon and sugar, a barely browned white with butter, garlic powder and a hint of salt, or a soft crusty bread soggy with meat drippings......mmmmmmmmmmmm.

Also I assign finding old computer games you used to love as a kid. I used to play an gorgeous old tetris-clone puzzle game and have recently picked that up again. Hurrah!

I assign several things to the Shire:
  • Ebooks that come in handy during traffic jams, most of them Tolkien books
  • Android devices
  • Being able to adequately answer a torture session at Criminal Law
  • Two consecutive long weekends! Some well-deserved RnR at last :smokin:

Galadriel55 01-24-2012 03:22 PM

Early dismissal in school. I got out an hour and a half earlier than usual today. :D

Galadriel55 01-27-2012 07:15 PM

Musical instruments. Need I explain?

Luckyyyyyyyy!!!

I assign real books. The ones made on paper, not electronic devices.

On Friday in one of my classes we had a discussion about what we think will happen to books in a hundred years. I told them that my books at least will be in excellent shape and still in use, if you expect me to live till 120. :D

Inziladun 01-30-2012 08:18 PM

Apple pie with generous amounts of cinnamon. :)

I know, they're just so beautiful. I just got a lovely bookshelf installed in my (bare) room. One that my mum will have to share with me, but it's mine, see, and I've a mind to stare at it all day and neglect my studies :D Now just imagine how useless that bookshelf would be without books. A shelf without books - what a depressing thought!

Seconded!

I assign snow. Seeing it fall and cover everything, and the way everything shines after, and how bright all that white looks compared to what was before, and the way it creaks under your feet if it's cold outside, and just that it makes the world look so perfect and clean that I feel guilty stepping outside. It's snow from the Shire.

The Shire doesn't usually get snow! :D but point taken. I've never seen heavy snow save once as a child, when I was in the mountains. After that, only a few snowflakes in a different country :(

Every winter we had at least two or three heavy snowfalls (by that I mean over 30 cm), and a thinner layer every couple weeks. This winter, though, this is the second (!) and deepest (!!!) - about 10cm, I'd say - snowfall we've had. It's really sad. This is Mordor weather.

And the Shire does get snow - not a lot of it like Caardhras blizzards, but light gentle snowfalls like we've had this morning.

Getting postcards from people's holidays. Now "everyone" is on facebook people don't send them so much but it was lovely to get one from the BVI today even though I know the sender has been home for nearly a fortnight.

Inziladun 03-05-2012 05:39 PM

Business trips that take me to the Gulf of Mexico beaches.

You need those  sunglasses there, eh? ;)

I assign the three essentials of life: Downs, books, and chocolate.

I concur on all three.

mark12_30 03-06-2012 09:37 AM

I assign elvish music to the Shire.

Wait... that doesn't quite work, does it?

No, no, only the music from the king gets assigned to the Shire.

(Sorry, couldn't resist either :D)

I thought it was only Aragorn that liked Elvis... :p

edit: Haha, never thought x-post on this thread.

Galadriel 03-15-2012 08:00 PM

I assign phone calls from friends when you most need them and are feeling rather worse than a pile of Orc-dung.

I need to wash out my mouth.

MCRmyGirl4eva 05-02-2012 09:22 AM

Elves. Can't forget to give those. Sam Gamgee would cry, otherwise!

Galadriel55 06-05-2012 12:03 PM

I assign exams.

Yes, you've heard me right. And I didn't mix up the threads. We only has six (:p) of them, and they are stretched out over 2 weeks, and they only take about 4 hours including the transportation to/from school and etc. So I have so much free time now! I'm less stressed now than I was a month ago.

I guess all this will change once exams will be "real". Like, real real. I'm taking in every moment of this time, though. I don't think I'll get away that easy next year (hmm... I say that every year...)

MCRmyGirl4eva 06-06-2012 01:01 PM

I assign Ms. Girard (Erm... Mrs. Buckley... she got married last summer... Sorry Lady Buckles!)

Seroiously, Latin Softball is the most fun thing in the UNIVERSE! (Especially when the teacher plays too and you make her translate "Servus verbat alterum servum baculo" [The slave beats the other slave with a stick]) ;) :p

Galadriel55 07-09-2012 02:54 PM

Sailboats and boating. Though it might not be the most common thing in the Shire, the hobbits prefering breakfast and warm baths, I'm sure there are a few Basso Boffins that would enjoy a trip on a yacht.

MCRmyGirl4eva 07-10-2012 02:47 PM

I assign cookies. And cheese balls. And sodapop. I'm hungry. Anyone for cyber-elevensies?

MCRmyGirl4eva 08-15-2012 12:00 PM

Having a boyfriend who randomly pops up with a rose for no apparent reason :)

Mumriken 08-18-2012 12:51 AM

I think I assign health to the shire and the form of beauty that appears in simple things. Yeah and btw the comment above me, that egosentric stupid world view clearly derives from Mordor.

Really? What a coincidence - I can say that about the comment above mine as well!

Lollipop010900 08-21-2012 12:38 AM

Tolkein and all his books,

Every other fantasy book,

More books...

And a nice shady tree under which i can read all those books.

You can tell i like books:)

MCRmyGirl4eva 09-05-2012 07:26 AM

All Sherlock Holmes stories, and Student Assisting in the school library :)

Galadriel55 10-08-2012 12:56 PM

O. Henry's short stories. They are something I could imagine hobbits telling each other over a pint of mead. Except that you'd have to move the stories back 4 ages...

I also assign silence. I think that many people underestimate it. It is sometimes so good just not to listen to anything, not to have any noise in the background.

Lollipop010900 10-08-2012 10:40 PM

Books,

My friends,

Books,

Tolkien and everything he wrote,

Books,

Puppies,

and finally...

More books

Oddwen 10-24-2012 05:33 PM

I assign the hollow noise that apples and thick books make.

Gilnaur 12-16-2012 03:46 PM

Good food
Flowers blooming in the garden
Gentle rain showers
Fresh air
Peace and Quiet
Books
a good pub
a sense of community

Galadriel55 12-29-2012 12:13 PM

Snow.

Celuien 12-29-2012 07:24 PM

Whoever fixed my account so that the posting permissions are restored! Thank you.

Galadriel55 12-30-2012 12:31 PM

Welcome back, Celuien!

Mithalwen 12-30-2012 01:10 PM

Yes it is Shireworthy in itself.

THE Ka 01-17-2013 04:37 PM

Finding out you work with a man named Bilbo at the local casino.
