Oh, ok. lol
|
I like darkness, and I like knights and medieval warfare. I was going to be Knight of the Night on an online RPG, but it was too long so I shortened it down to NightKnight.

most people think i got steve because it is my name, but it isnt, steve is short for "Shire Traversing Ethereal Vehichal of Eternity"

Mine's very dull...the Scottish version of my real name, Elizabeth. It was originally spelled Ealasaid, but since I had a problem with my registration, I had to reregister. That's when I added the "e" on the end.
|
Ealasaide... I've always thought it was a lovely, lovely name.
|
Thank you, Mark! Actually, I am very fond of the name Ealasaide, too. I keep trying to think of ways to use it in the real world, rather than just online. I feel more like an Ealasaide than an Elizabeth, if you get my meaning.
Anyway, when I said dull, I was referring to the story of how I happened to to be using the name. You have to admit that that story is not very exciting! |
Ealasaide, I thought that your name was a Tolkien name, it's really pretty and cool.
|
Thanks, Andreadawn! I like your nick, too. Very pretty!

Woot! Go name generator! I happen to like my name, even though I didn't chose it. Actually, it's probably better that I didn't. Can you imagine if people had to chose their own names? I'd be hard. I have a new account at elftown.com and my name there is Lomlinwen, which I actually devised for my own. Echo of the holy music. It suits me well, I think. Anyway, I like all the diverse names on this site, some are pretty, others silly, or just the name of the user, it's all here!!!
|
I would like to thank the Elf-name Generator for my name...
But I was able to relate my name to my Elf life... you see, I am Gil-galad's wife, and Lhunardawen roughly means the Maiden of the Lune Region, which was where Gil-galad and I lived. |
I think I posted on a similar thread, but whatever.
The Grounds-Keeper-Willie part is easy. The Simpsons is my favorite show and Willie is one of my favorite characters. His name somewhat represents me since I'm Irish, and Willie (who's Scottish) was the closest character to being Irish. As for putting dashes in between, I did that because I didn't know if groundskeeper was one word or not and I just wanted to register. As for the MLD, it is what my close friends and I call each other. At first we were called the Cigarette Crew. Our other friends who we drank with on the weekends called us that. Whenever we would come to a spot in the park at night and they were already there, they would see the little red dots from the tips of our cigarettes and when one of them would ask, "Who is that?" another friend would shout out, "It's the Cigarette Crew!" Well, after a while, a couple more of us became close friends, but not all of use smoked. So we decided that we needed a name for us that actually represented us (even though we are sometimes called by that name). We all drank 40's, and almost always they were malt liquor. So we called ourselves Malt Liquor Drinkers; MLD. And that's how I got my nickname. |
Willie wins the prize for the best story behind the nick!

TYPO! Actually, a misthought-- for 1 second, I thought his name actually was Tuor Turambar. Then i realized- but it was too late.
I am not stuck with it, and i type it more natually than how it really goes. (TuRIN Turambar) |
well, everyone can guess this, when i read the silm for the first time i was intrigued by eöl, his solitude and strange behaviour for an elf. And offcourse his skill and his galvorn intrigues me still
|
Haha! One more person got fooled by my nickname, and thought that I was a guy. This is becoming infinitely amusing!
|
hmm I could have swarn I posted here a while ago and I came back to read it again. But it appears i have yet to post it here so my nick comes from a character me and my friend came up with. He also has a cousin or brother (I cant remember) name Flippo The Hippo. But Trippo is such an underdog and I always root for the underdog.
|
Trippo!!! I was just thinking of and missing you!! Welcome back!
I got my name from combining Odd (which I am) and Wen (elvish for maiden, which I am also) and got Oddwen. My fake last name is Floddball, if anyone wanted to care. |
Quote:
Nah, just kidding. I first read it in Elvish Insults. Oddwen Floddball...interesting... Later days! ->Elenrod P.S. GASP = Go Away, Shocking Person! <font size=1 color=339966>[ 4:41 AM December 12, 2003: Message edited by: Nilpaurion Felagund ] |
Ah... My name... Feanor of the Peredhil. It's got a long, complicated and slightly embarrassing history.
My brother showed me the 'Downs a couple years back and I eventually decided to register. (At this time I had never read the Silmarillion). I couldn't think of a name, although now I can think of a half dozen better... so I found a list of Elvish words online. I saw the name Feanor and that it meant Fiery Spirit, or thereabouts, and I thought "hahaha... everybody thinks I'm a pyro and i do enjoy causing mischief. Perfect." So there is the Feanor part. Of course it helped that my said brother complained about me picking a 'boy' name... I could have done Feanorwen... but NO! As for "of the Peredhil", I was in the midst of a stage where all of my creative writing had characters of something (ex: Princess Miriam Anamaeri Julietta Serafina of Ayvieron). So I decided to give tribute to all of the Half-Elves out there and stick that in there. And Voila! The history of my name. I just make it simpler and go by Fea on here... Fea |
I was reading the Silmarillion and the story of Aredhel Ar Feiniel relly touched me. And ive been a fan of hers ever since.
|
i just got this one coz i knew no one else had it!

Pyroclastic: Extrusive volcanic rock fragments, such as volcanic ash (pyroclastic ash) or volcanic bombs. At least, thats what I understood during the five minitues I payed attention in Goelogy 101. I know how geologists love to prove they know more than everybody else, so go ahead, if you feel so inclined.
Pyroclastic is sort of related to Mt. Doom exploding, so it's Tolkien enough to work. And as an added bonus, you can call me Pyro for short! (My nickname from Chemistry Lab, you don't want details!) And as an added added bonus, I get to have an absolutly amazing avatar! Flames! ~Pyro~ |
Hmmm ... if I remember correctly, Elrond was some character from Tolkien's works
No, I always liked him best, but unfortunaley as I registered only last month the real "Elrond" was already taken, so I had to add "of Rivendell". EfR |
I actually used to be Tinuviel87, which I was rather fond of. Tinuviel as I quite adore Luthien, and 87 as it's the year I was born. But I had to reregister so I took my name from one of my favorite poems by Sylvia Plath (no, it's not from the Disney movie )And now it's stuck and I use it all the time. I often wish I had a more Elvish name though...

Well, I fooled one more person today with my very male nick!
I think it's absolutely great how people somehow impose certain qualities of the name that you chose (if you chose the name of a character) upon you. For example, I've actually met a couple of people who thought that I was a man, and married, to boot! I'm not married, and I'm most definitely NOT a man! |
Hah! Cinderella, we're the same age. I'm an 87 to.
I just found this great only elvish dictionary and I found out what my nick means finally. By the way, I got it from the name generator. Aina=holy serke=blood and of course wen=maiden. I think that's kind of cool. Who made the name generator names anyway? Was it Sharku or the BW or both or what? |
The name generator gave me Nuryavie, which is v. beautiful, but I don't know what it means so I didn't want to use it.

not sure if I've already posted here, but mine comes from the dark corridors of my demented brain. I like Elves, I have pointy ears and I just thought it was creative. (apparently a lot of people do too, since many have stole my name on other sites. )

Well, mine is pretty obvious. Eorl is my FAVORITe character from all Tolkien's works.
I first tried for Eorl the Young, but found it was taken. Then I tried "Eorl of the field of Celebrant" but it was too long and I could not spell Celebrant. Technically my name is not correct because the land was only named Rohan after Eorl aided Gondor in the battle of Celebrant - but I liked the sound of the name, so I took it. By the way, my roleplay character's name is Ferethor - guess how I made it? My next two favorite characters Faramir and Denethor combined. |
My nick is not Tolkien-related at all. I came across it in my vague studies and liked it.
'saraphim', or, actually, 'saraph' is a very old word for angel, in either hebrew, latin or sanskrit. 'saraphim' is actually the plural form, and that is why i signature my PM's with Saraph. It might sound familiar because one of the characters in The Matrix (two and three)is named Saraph, which I thought was a nice touch, considering how bad the last two were. But that is another story. |
I have finally decided to tell everybody why I chose "Imladris" for my name:
1. Elwing was already taken *downcast look and sigh* 2. I've always liked Rivendell and I remembered that Imladris was the elvish word Rivendell (and, in my most humble opinion, Imladris sounds better). 3. For somer reason the line, "Seek for the sword that was broken, in Imladris it dwells" was stuck in my head that entire day... 4. I could spell it with ease... No offense to anyone present. |
Well I've decided I won't keep it a secret anymore.
Well I like rangers that made the second part of my name. Now the Sleepy is a long story. I'll make it short. I went three consecutive days sleeping in class in Physics without getting caught and thus was given the nick of Sleepy. And I was president of the Sleepers Club  until I finally gave uo my good hobbit....ooops habbit. And so I put 'em together and got Sleepy Ranger |
It's quite obvious, but if you haven't guessed it, my nick is one of Aragorns names, meaning "Eagle of the Star". He used this name in his earlier travels of Gondor and Rohan.
|
This nickname is actually a new one for me as I used to go by Arathiriel here, a name I got from the generator and never really cared for after I found out my real name is more closely translated to Meldewen...
Anyway, you would think I'd use Meldewen as my handle - well recently on another group I am in I started using Sam's Amy since I love the character of Samwise Gamgee so much in LOTR - and thus you know now why I use the nickname Sam's Amy ! |
Gt mine from the Elvish name generator. I never knew actually how to say it though. My friend asked me what my nickname was on the downs and I went 'Pher..er..something along those lines' I had to write it down for them.
|
My name on the generator is Girithlaith. I used a Translator and found that girith means horror. Can anyone help me with the rest?
|
I choosed my nick due to lack of fantasy. It was entering a chat room in Norway and saw that it was an Aragorn there.
Since than I have used it on everything. Even on my hotmail adress. But I think I will change it to the name that the generator gave me, which is Amantalatwen. Anyone who now's what that mean ? |
Funny story actually...well, more complicated than funny.
It originated in a discussion with my friends about names of bizarre creatures. We had discussed already existent mythological beasts with weird names, but soon made up some of our own. We had a strange name for an aquatic animal called a Hsnark, which is a lot like shark with re-arranged letters. We were also discussing orc names and how to get them, combining black speech words and suffixes I had in my posession. My friend concluded that good names for orcs were verb titles like Smiter, Smasher, and Crunsher or some such thing. We then intertwined the two discussions, contemplating how our orc, Zhuzbluk the Crunsher, would react to being eaten by a Hsnark. Somehow, during this discussion, I realized that "A hsnark" is "Kransha" spelled backwards, which was awfully similar to Crunsher. Weird coincidence. For some reason, I've loved that name ever since. |
I created my name from Varus, the Roman general of the Germany disaster In A.D. 9 where he lead 3 liegions of troops throught the woods and the barbarians killed them all... Dont ask me why i liked the guy, he was foolish, but on the other hand, he did have a cool name, plus he reminds me of Denethor. I put Alexus before it becuase it sounded like a cool Romanish name.
|
i was here a long time ago under the name of mossy, which was short for mossflower, which was a fantasy series i was reading at the time. but, one day, i came back with my sister under the name of mossy. well, the operator didn't like us very much, because we weren't talking about lotr, and he kicked both of us. so we couldn't come back in as our old names. i was talking to my sister on a different channel and i asked her what my new name should be. and she made a reference to the movie, empire records, where warren gets kicked out of the store and he shouts "i'll be back and you'll be sorry!" warren was the stupid, obnoxious, minor of the movie, so it wasn't a very good character to take after or anything, but i thought it would be funny to take the name anyway. so i did. and it sort of stuck. so that's where my name comes from.
