How are you supposed to do this?

*BUMP*

Is that it? I've never done it before...

But I'd like to continue playing this thread.

Firefoot 04-18-2004 04:49 PM

Um, I think that's right. I don't remember where it came from, so I'll take your word for it. Go ahead.

bilbo_baggins 04-18-2004 08:22 PM

Thank you, Firefoot. I wasn't sure either, so, oh well.

My qoute is:

"I weren't droppin' no eaves, sir. Honest!"

Have fun!

Fingolfin II 04-19-2004 01:04 AM

True. He said that in the movie, but different in the book.

bilbo_baggins 04-19-2004 09:30 AM

Incorrect, Fingolfin.

In the movie, Samwise says: "I haven't been droppin' no eaves sir, honest!"

In the books, Samwise says something different: "Eavesdropping, sir? I haven't been droppin' eaves, as they're aint any eaves at Bag End."

So I go again? Yay! Alright, here is my quote:

"There are few who can."

Good luck!

Sirithheruwen 04-19-2004 06:42 PM

TRUE: GAndalf to Frodo, concerning the writing on the Ring. :)

bilbo_baggins 04-20-2004 07:12 AM

Yay! You got it right!

Sirithheruwen 04-20-2004 11:41 AM

Yay! My first ever win in "Quotable Quotes"!!! :D (Not that I've been here long.)
Here it is:

"Wild men walk fast..."

Good Luck! :smokin:

bilbo_baggins 04-20-2004 12:08 PM

False

Sirithheruwen 04-20-2004 12:38 PM

Correct! YOur go. :D

bilbo_baggins 04-23-2004 07:10 AM

Sorry for the delay, I had to find a good one:

"Here is a thing unheard of, an Elf will go underground where a Dwarf dare not."

Have fun

Thorongil 04-23-2004 07:44 AM

True. Gimli at the paths of the dead.

bilbo_baggins 04-23-2004 08:19 AM

False, Thorongil.

At the Paths of the Dead, Gimli says:

"Here is a thing unheard of, an Elf will go underground and a Dwarf will not."

So, sorry.

But here is a new quote:

"Look out for me, especially at very unlikely times."

Have fun

Sirithheruwen 04-23-2004 05:29 PM

False? I think...

bilbo_baggins 04-26-2004 12:26 PM

Correct, Sirithheruwen! It was close, though.

Your go, :D
b_b

Sirithheruwen 04-27-2004 02:40 PM

"But why is the rum gone?" Ha, just kidding! ;)

"...In the green fields of Lebennin!..."

Good luck! :)

bilbo_baggins 04-27-2004 03:04 PM

"But why is the rum gone?" is a true quote if you want to know... :)

And the other one is false, I think.

Sirithheruwen 04-28-2004 02:36 PM

Well, of course it's a real quote, just not a real one from LOTR...right?! ;)

It was actually true - from the book. In the chapter, The Last Debate, Legolas sings it. Hold on while I find and/or think of another one.

Sirithheruwen 05-05-2004 03:30 PM

Quote:

Take care of yourselves!
Hmmm...lengthen by 1 character...

bilbo_baggins 05-06-2004 09:43 AM

Why of course, it must be false, Sirithheruwen.

I am alway's right, too! :p

Firefoot 05-06-2004 03:04 PM

I think it's true. I believe Gandalf says it in the Hobbit.

bilbo_baggins 05-06-2004 03:08 PM

NO! IT'S FALSE!!!!! I MUST WIN!!!!!!! IT MUST BE FALSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Siri, could you straighten out our argument?

Sirithheruwen 05-06-2004 03:49 PM

I shall certainly straighten out your arguement as best as I can.

Sorry to disapoint you bilbo_baggins, but it is indeed true. Gandalf said in the Hobbit (and I quote):
Quote:

Good-bye! Be good, take care of yourselves--and DON'T LEAVE THE PATH!
If you want further referance, it is in the second-to-the-last paragraph at the end of the chapter "Queer Lodgings".

So, your go Firefoot!

Firefoot 05-06-2004 05:18 PM

Thanks.

Evisse the Blue 05-07-2004 05:41 AM

I believe it's false. Gandalf says something to that effect, but these are not the exact words.

Olorin_TLA 05-07-2004 07:41 AM

It's true...I can'tremember, but it sounds like something one of the Three Hunters would have said to another of them.

PS: When a quote only differs by one word in a sentence, such as using "and" instsead of "where" in the above Paths of the Deadquote...isn't that just silly?

bilbo_baggins 05-07-2004 08:53 AM

Olorin, that's how the game should be played. The quote makes the reader remember something like it, and maybe it's been changed, so the guess of the reader will be wrong, and the writer may post another qoute.

Firefoot 05-07-2004 02:35 PM

Well, it is true. Elrond said it at the Council of Elrond. Olorin, you can go.

Olorin_TLA 05-08-2004 10:00 AM

"Ah! The spear in my heart!"

Get guessing! :)

Son of Númenor 05-08-2004 10:09 AM

Err, false?

Sirithheruwen 05-08-2004 10:48 AM

Um, I think it's true - didn't one of the hobbits say that outside of the Barrow?

Quicksilver_Sprite 05-08-2004 11:45 AM

Merry, outside the Barrow, remembering past kings.

Olorin_TLA 05-09-2004 11:34 AM

Quicksilver is the winner! The quotes from Merry in a slightly...possesed(?)...state of mind, remembering the attack of the men of Carn-Dum on Arnor. The little we learn about Angmar and Arnor in the Tom chapters is one of their highlights imho...along with the mad singing man :)

Quicksilver_Sprite 05-09-2004 06:48 PM

Yay! :D Now lemme see what I can dig out of the books. How about...

"Let the orcs lie."

bilbo_baggins 05-11-2004 07:44 AM

Since it is my favorite thing to say:

False! I boldly declare it false!

(I'll get it right one of these days)

Sirithheruwen 05-11-2004 04:14 PM

I believe it is true, but I don't know who says it. I think (if I remember correctly) that one of the three hunters says it at Amon Hen regarding the orcs around Boromir's fallen body.

Keep it up bilbo_baggins! :)

Quicksilver_Sprite 05-11-2004 08:51 PM

It's true all right! Look around Helm's Deep... Any more guesses?

Firefoot 05-12-2004 05:13 AM

Quote: "Look around Helm's Deep..." That's what I thought! But I couldn't find it before. Gandalf said it, before they left for Isengard.

Quicksilver_Sprite 05-12-2004 08:58 AM

How very correct you are. :D Firefoot's turn!

Firefoot 05-12-2004 02:53 PM

Thank you. Now, lessee:
