The Enemy is Morgoth Bauglir
I don't rightly know this, but I thought: Turin, Eonwe and Fingolfin
Turin delivers the death stroke with his Black Sword, thus revenging his dreadful life.

Tar-Palantir 03-05-2003 03:26 PM

Good job, it's your turn lathspell.

The three were: Tulkas, Eönwë, Túrin

Nefwathiel Teleri 03-05-2003 05:37 PM

c'mon, ask a question

Beren87 03-05-2003 06:06 PM

Welcome Nefwathiel! By the noble rules of this room, lathspell has 10 days to respond.

lathspell 03-06-2003 02:59 PM

Alrighty then
here the new question:

What battle did Gandalf remind the Hobbits off, that they should remember?

greetings,
lathspell

Elfhelm 03-06-2003 03:06 PM

Was it the Battle of Dale?

lathspell 03-07-2003 03:53 PM

I don't exactly know the name of it, but I think you mean the right battle.
please proceed

Elfhelm 03-07-2003 04:48 PM

Who was the only survivor of the Disaster of the Gladden Fields?

Faenaduial 03-07-2003 10:37 PM

Was it Ohtar?

Legolas 03-08-2003 12:56 AM

There were three survivors. Ohtar, his companion, and Estelmo.

From Unfinished Tales:

Quote:

There were eye-witnesses of the event. Ohtar and his companion escaped, bearing with them the shards of Narsil. The tale mentions a young man who survived the slaughter: he was Elendur's esquire, named Estelmo, and was one of the last to fall, but was stunned by a club, and not slain, and was found alive under Elendur's body.

Nefwathiel Teleri 03-08-2003 12:02 PM

Still Beren87 is right, Nefwathiel. Just hold to the rules and people will proceed... usually.

There's a differance in being here and participating here. So just follow the rules and everyone can have a good time!

Now, Elfhelm has been gone for more than 10 days, even with my PMs he has not posted here, so it's anyone's turn.

Faenaduial 03-17-2003 07:57 PM

Glad to see your back Beren87. Hope all is okay. Let's try this one:

In what Battle was an elf, who had been enslaved in Angband and escaped, slain?

Annunfuiniel 03-18-2003 02:31 AM

That would be the Battle of Tumhalad, if I remember correctly. And the elf that was mortally wounded was Gwindor.

Faenaduial 03-18-2003 12:13 PM

Correct Annunfuiniel. The floor is yours.

Annunfuiniel 03-18-2003 01:58 PM

Thanks, Feanaduial!
Name four Battles (specifically named Battle[s]) in which no elf took part.

Beren87 03-18-2003 04:23 PM

Battle of the Gladden Fields (Massacre of Isildur)
Battle of the Hornburg (Saruman's army and the Rohirrim
Battle of the Peak (Gandalf and the Balrog)
Battle of Bywater! (Last battle of WR in the Shire)

Annunfuiniel 03-19-2003 04:15 AM

Hi, Beren, nice to see you're back!
But to the answer you gave...you got 2 out of four right.
Battle of the Gladden Fields is usually referred to as Disaster of the G.F.
And the Battle of Hornburg...well: Saruman's forces vs. Rohirrim+Aragorn, Gimli& Legolas
Yes, I'm picky!

The Saucepan Man 03-19-2003 05:49 AM

OK, how about:

Battle of the Peak (Gandalf and the Balrog)
Battle of Bywater! (Last battle of WR in the Shire)

plus

Battle of Anulzibar (sorry, haven't got my book handy to check the spelling) - Dwarves and Goblins/Orcs

Battle of the Ford of Isen - Saruman's forces and Rohirrim.

Annunfuiniel 03-19-2003 06:34 AM

That is a valid answer, Saucepan Man, congrats! (the spelling:Azanulbizar)
Two other battles that would have been correct were the Battle of Greenfield (hobbits and orcs, TA 2747) and
the Battle of the Powers (between Valar and Melkor soon after awakening of the elves).

The Saucepan Man 03-19-2003 03:45 PM

Thank you, Annunfuiniel.

OK, an easy one. Name four battles featuring Hobbits.

lathspell 03-19-2003 03:50 PM

Battle of the Five Armies
Battle of Helm's Deep
Battle of the Pelennor Fields
Battle of the Greenfields (sp?) the battle when the Bullroarer invented golf is meant here.

And - Battle near Morannon

The Saucepan Man 03-19-2003 04:03 PM

Hobbits at Helm's Deep?

Nope.

Beren87 03-19-2003 05:00 PM

Battle of the Five Armies
Battle of Bywater
Battle of the Pelennor Fields
Battle of the Greenfields
Battle of Fornost (The Shire sent a company of bowmen...err...bow-hobbits.)

And actually the Battle of Gladden Fields is called by that name in quite a few places. With the number of men involved it really is considered a battle but oh well.

The Saucepan Man 03-20-2003 11:47 AM

Congrats, Beren87. I must admit, I'd forgotten about the Battle of Fornost, which is why I was only asking for four ...

... Your turn.

lathspell 03-20-2003 01:02 PM

I'm feeling quiet stupid now

Beren87 03-20-2003 02:59 PM

Nice question!

What unlikely character (hint hint) said that the battle of Dagorlad lasted for months?

Ultimatejoe 03-20-2003 03:39 PM

Gollum?

lathspell 03-21-2003 12:43 PM

Or maybe Ghan-buri-Ghan

Beren87 03-21-2003 03:26 PM

Well, Gollum was the one that I knew of, your turn Ultimatejoe!

Lindolirian 04-28-2003 04:43 PM

Before which battle does Borondir suspect the Lady of the Golden Wood to be on his side and why does he make this assumption?

Lindolirian 04-28-2003 04:54 PM

Too easy for the Man with pans of Sauce!

The Saucepan Man 04-28-2003 04:57 PM

Sorry, I deleted my original post, because I realised that it was the Battle of the Field of Celebrant, not the Disaster of Gladden Fields as I put originally.

So my answer is:

Is it the Battle of the Field of Celebrant? There is a mist issuing forth from Lothlorien which allows Eorl's forces to attack with surprise.

Edit: Hmm, now that looks mighty strange, with Lindolirien's confirmation coming before my answer.

Lindolirian 04-28-2003 05:01 PM

Thats strange, I was sure you had said Celbrant. O well, you have it now, so have at it!

The Saucepan Man 04-29-2003 08:27 PM

There be strange things afoot on the Downs.

How many recorded Battles in ME have a name that is water-related and name each of them.

Lindolirian 04-29-2003 08:36 PM

Battle of Bywater
Battles of the Fords of Isen
Battle of the Crossings of Isen
Battle of the Crossings of Poros
Battle of the Crossing of Erui
Battle of Unnumbered Tears (Hey tears are water too)

So that would be six unless I can't count.

The Saucepan Man 04-30-2003 01:49 PM

Hmm, you got the tricksy ones (Isen x2, Bywater and Unnumbered Tears), but there are more ...

Lindolirian 04-30-2003 03:11 PM

There was the battle in the Fens of Serech in which Barahir saved Felagund, and then the battle where Beren kiled the dwarves who slew Thingol, and got the Silmaril back at Sarn Athrad. Oh yes and the Battle of Laketown in which Smaug was destroyed. I can't think of any others at the moment.
