Marach

Beren87 02-02-2003 10:18 PM

That would be him.

Pallando B.C 02-25-2003 04:57 PM

To keep the thread going......

Give the name of the range of mounatins beneath were the Elves awoke.

Lindolirian 02-25-2003 06:27 PM

The Orocarni. Just read that part in the Sil today for the... umpteenth time!

Pallando B.C 02-26-2003 01:48 AM

How fortunate! Your go.

Lindolirian 02-26-2003 07:59 PM

Who was with Orlegwhen he was killed?

Pallando B.C 02-27-2003 04:24 AM

Túrin. Running away from crazy people shouting Golug!

Lindolirian 02-27-2003 09:43 AM

Yes, Orcs are crazy people. And they smell funny too... Go ahead!

Pallando B.C 02-27-2003 04:22 PM

Give me some information on the most important region of Númenor.

Lindolirian 02-27-2003 06:34 PM

Arandor, the Land of the King, was part of the Mittalmar, the innermost region of Númenor. Within Arandor was Armenelos, the capital city of Westernesse. It also bordered the eastern side of Meneltarma, and had a port, Rómenna, on the Bay of Rómenna.

Pallando B.C 02-27-2003 06:59 PM

Great Research. As i've come to expect from you!

Lindolirian 03-01-2003 05:18 PM

Research, Ha!

Now this will take some research.
Good ole JRR seemed to hold Bilbo at a pretty darn high standard for running. Especially for a fifty year old, fat, three foot guy. According to information available in the Hobbit and in the Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Wynn Fonstad, you should be able to figure out Bilbo's average running speed. Now, I know math isn't my hottest subject, but I'm pretty sure I've got my calculations right. Lets see how you all do.

Lindolirian 03-04-2003 02:37 PM

Since I'm leaving soon, and I'd like to see this one answered, I'll give you a hint. When Bilbo began this run, in which he ran at ____ mph, it was from Bag End to Bywater, which I have estimated to be 5 miles. By the way, his speed is impossibly fast, so don't be surprised at the answer you get.

The Saucepan Man 03-04-2003 03:17 PM

30 mph. Wow, that's one fast little Hobbit.

Annunfuiniel 03-04-2003 03:20 PM

If the distance truly was 5 miles then Bilbo's running speed would be 30mph! (I recall that it took him 10 minutes to get from target A. Bag-End to target B. The Green Dragon)
EDIT: Darn you Saucepan, you beat me!!

You got it Saucepan Man! To think that I could be out run by a fifty year old, fat smoker, who is three feet high...

The Saucepan Man 03-05-2003 08:14 AM

How many of the participants in the Battle of Five Armies actively feature (as opposed to just being mentioned) in LotR, and who are they?

Estanesse 03-05-2003 11:07 AM

Four
Gandalf, Gwaihir, Bilbo, and Gloin

lathspell 03-05-2003 11:13 AM

Yes, Bilbo... Gandalf... Gloin... Gwaihir and a lot of other Eagles like Landroval and Meneldor the Swift

The Saucepan Man 03-05-2003 08:47 PM

I think Estanesse takes the prize, since I was thinking of characters who were specifically identified in The Hobbit, and of the Eagles only Gwaihir was identified (by his title, anyway).

Arguably, Thranduil could be included, since he plays an active part in the War of the Ring, but since he plays no active part in the story that was told in LotR, I am happy to exclude him from the answer.

So, Estanesse, it's your turn ...

Estanesse 03-12-2003 06:24 AM

Maglor settled between between which two rivers?

Annunfuiniel 03-12-2003 06:29 AM

Between Little Gelion and Greater Gelion.

Estanesse 03-12-2003 06:34 AM

Yes you’re correct
That is fast
It was an easy one but still very fast

Annunfuiniel 03-12-2003 07:00 AM

Yes, I strike like a lightning!
Ok, that was...stupid. Well don't mind me just answer this next question:
Which flower knew both stone soil and the blood of men?

Estanesse 03-12-2003 07:17 AM

Is it the flower of Teleperion

lathspell 03-12-2003 02:59 PM

Do you mean Simbelmynë?

Annunfuiniel 03-12-2003 03:24 PM

Both wrong. You have to dig a bit deeper, I think it's mentioned only once...

lathspell 03-13-2003 03:37 AM

Alright, next possibility.

Seregon, the red flower on Amon Rudh

Annunfuiniel 03-13-2003 03:42 AM

And that's the right "possibility"! Congrats, lathspell! Proceed.

lathspell 03-14-2003 02:50 PM

It seems we meet everywhere, Annunfuiniel

Thank you, here's the new one:

Who said: 'Only with one hand thy givest'

Dreadfully easy, I suppose, but couldn't do anything better

Annunfuiniel 03-14-2003 03:07 PM

Yes, we meet again...and again and again! But that's cool with me!
And the answer to your question would be Ungoliant.

lathspell 03-15-2003 11:15 AM

And again your answer is correct!

You may proceed.

lathspell

Annunfuiniel 03-16-2003 01:19 AM

*bows*
Hmmmm... Name at least six "things" which formed a group of seven.

Estanesse 03-16-2003 07:03 AM

The seven stars of the standard from Gondor
Palantiri
Dwarf fathers
Dwarf rings
Sons of Feanor
the Sickle of the Valar

Annunfuiniel 03-16-2003 07:21 AM

Jolly good job again, Estanesse!
I just want to add the seven wall's of Minas Tirith.
So, your turn it is, Estanesse.

Estanesse 03-16-2003 01:11 PM

I’m having a jolly good time

Were did Turin first met Nienor.

The Saucepan Man 03-16-2003 07:02 PM

Ah, a Turin question. I cannot resist.

The mound of Haudh-en-Elleth in the Forest of Brethil.

Estanesse 03-17-2003 03:22 AM

Again is your answer the correct one Saucepan Man

The Saucepan Man 03-18-2003 07:51 AM

Well, thank-you. Turin is a current favourite subject of mine.

What is the difference between Goblins and Orcs?

Malva Headstrong 03-18-2003 08:23 AM

There´s no differnce at all between minor Orcs and Goblins?
