*Gasp*

You listen to a total of five female artists, then. That's...um...

SEXIST! YOU ARE MUSICALLY SEXIST!

Oddwen 04-05-2006 11:43 AM

Six actually, if you count Queen

I actually don't even listen to those female artists. I guess I just like men a lot. :p;)

Uh, the one female artist I actually do listen to...

Firefoot is Amy Lee (Evanescence)

JennyHallu 04-05-2006 11:49 AM

tsk tsk tsk

I bet you only listen to Evanescence because the rest of the band members are male.

Hookbill is Tom T. Hall
Nilp is Harry Belefonte (I don't have any idea why. Completely wrong set of islands...but there it is...)
Fea is a cross between Pat Benatar and Linda Ronstadt
Saucey is Frank Sinatra

Lalwendë 04-05-2006 02:39 PM

Funnily enough, I sometimes think of particular singers when I think of some Downers!

Bethberry is Kim Deal
Saucepan Man is Ray Davies
Eomer of the Rohirrim is Marc Bolan
Rimbaud is Morrissey
Fordim is Jarvis Cocker

:D

Heh heh. I just think, from my experience, he makes a really creepy Seer. :p

Oh, and Eomer is totally that guy from Franz Ferdinand. :D

Diamond18 04-05-2006 05:51 PM

Well I'm gonna try and do some female singers. Strangely it's easy for me to hear Downers as singers... even though as I said before I don't really consciously assign them voices when I read.

Anyway:

Lush is the chick from the Dresden Dolls or Gwen Stefani

Estelyn Telcontar is Loreena McKennitt

Fea is Anna Nalick

Bethberry is Mama Cass (think Dream a Little Dream)

Pio is Carole King

Child of the 7th Age is June Carter or Bonnie Raitt

JennyHallu is Kelly Clarkson

Kath is Charlotte Church

Valier is Hilary Duff

Meela is Amy Lee

Lalwende is Norah Jones

Thinlomien is Joss Stone

Wilwa is Paula Abduhl :p

Kitanna is Sheryl Crow

Celuian is Sarah McLaughlin

I was completely lost until I googled her and then I was pretty chill with the choice.

Everyone else... you're picking artists I only know vaguely! Then again.... if I started "band"ing people, you'd be lost, I'm sure.

Lhunardawen 04-05-2006 07:06 PM

Oddwen, was that one for each of Nilp's alter-egos? If so, you didn't specify which is which. :D

Some female artists from me to make Jenny happy: ;)

Fea is Avril Lavigne

Kitanna is Kelly Clarkson

Kath is Michelle Branch

Hookbill the Goomba 04-05-2006 11:44 PM

Jumping on the bandwagon...

The Saucepan Man = Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull)

Nilp = That lead singer from Blind Guardian

Gil-Gallad = Vivian Stanchel (of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band... Yes! I know them! :p )

The Only Real Estel = Neil Innes (Again, a Bonzo)

Davem = Peter Gabriel

:D

Good, beause it was a compliment, really. :) I love her music, and I've seen her live in concert and your personalities kind of... mesh. :)

No. :p

wilwarin538 04-06-2006 02:01 PM

I think Glirdy would agree that I am more a Vanessa Carlton then a Paula Abdul. My singing voice is actually a bit like hers, and we have the same hair, and name for that matter. ;)

Okay. I'm sure some will be recognized, and I'm sure a couple will be head scratchers.

TORE is Ben Folds... or perhaps the lead from Chevelle. You also bring to mind the leads from The Pax Cecilia, Phantom Planet, and Death Cab for Cutie.

Balin999 is Cory Heart.

Heren is Dave Matthews.

Lush is the lead from Eisley.

TGWBS is the lead from Florida Sessions.

Aimè is James Hetfield. Sometimes, though, he's the lead from The Fray.

Wilwa is Gwen Stefani.

Anguirel
is, I suppose, Howie Day.

Diamond18 is Joss Stone.

the phantom is inexplicably tied to the band OK Go. Like as not, he doesn't even know why. :)

The Barrow-Wight is whoever was singing the part of The Phantom when I saw The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. He speaks or sings and you betcha we listen. What, Sir Phantom? You have a lair? And you're singing Music of the Night? Sure I'll come with you, most especially if you give me a PT for it. :p

Mister Underhill came to mind for no apparent reason while I was listening to Jesse L. Martin sing. Now he's stuck there. Sorry, 'Hillo, but you're currently singing about opening up a restaurant in Sante Fe.

Formy is Umberto Tozzi.

And no, I'm not musically prejudiced... I just think of girls as having similar voices to me. Guys don't get that luxury, so I have to come up with something else. :D

Not too shabby. :)

Better find someone to blame. ;)

Fea sounds like Rilo Kiley.
Gil is Weezer for some reason.
SPM is Keane.
TORE is Rooney.
And I agree that Eomer is Franz Ferdinand.

Well... I don't really think so, but I'll not complain. :) *thinks of that time Joss did a duet with Rob Thomas and smiles enviously*

I've been to peg Lhuna and I think I finally got it: Meg White from the White Stripes. (Meg sings on a few of the album-only tracks)

I haven't done most of the guys yet ('sides Eomer) so:

Phantom: the guy from Muse.

Nilp: Jason Mraz

TORE: that guy from this season's American Idol... Will something or other. Sorry, I haven't watched it enough to really remember his name, but you look so alike.

Nogrod: the guy from the Shout Out Louds

B-W: Eminem. Sorry, I am forever scarred by the REB.

Rimbaud: the guy from The Clash

And others.... I'm drawing a blank, heh. Which is odd since 90% of my music collection is male singers. And most of the above singers aren't even in said music collection. Weird.

So I have no idea who you're talking about. :D

edit: Found him on Google (where else?). Interesting...

How does one Google "Will something or other"? :p

Well I hope it's not insulting... I mean I know some people hate anything to do with AI.

More:

Sleepy: the guy from Snow Patrol

Farael: the guy from Three Eleven

Glirdan: Brandon Flowers from The Killers (yes, I know his name for a change!)

Squatter: Mick Jagger http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/...ticons7/24.gif

Mithalwen is Frederica von Stade. I think it's because of her warning to Gilrdan Magic Flute signature from the first Survivor thread, and I associate von Stade with Mozart operas. Even though I know the Queen of the Night isn't a mezzo-soprano role.

LMP has a rolling baritone voice and a deep belly laugh.

The Phantom sounds like an eerie whisper most of the time, but every now and then, he's Boris Karloff. Must be those eyes in his avatar.

And Glirdy definitely has a high-pitched voice.

You know Diamond, I kind of picture you with an Avril Lavigne or Celine Dion voice.

Well Celuien, you're actually not to far off the mark with that...

Diamond18 04-06-2006 10:28 PM

Glird, I'll take the Avril Lavigne part as a compliment and pretend the other one just didn't happen. ;)

(Not that her voice is bad, I just am not that fond of her songs.)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-07-2006 09:22 AM

Franz Ferdinand? To step into my elitist shoes for a moment, I did see them before they were famous. £5 to get in. :smokin:

I am a good singer. ;)

I tend to imagine Barrowdowners as whistlers as opposed to singers.

For a short time the band was called Autumn Wind Thesis. I don't expect you'll find much on them either. They're rather unheard of. Now, if you e-mail them, they'll send you a free CD and then if you listen to the song A Denouement, you'll know what I'm talking about. :D

.

wow ... I can't aspire to F " in alt " I used to have to be having a very good day to get above the stave at all but with age the voice has gone higher rather than bigger so I can manage mezzo - but not like F von S (I wish). If I could have chosen any career it would have been opera singer but alas I have all of the temperament (the Queen of the Night moments are genuine!) and none of the talent :( . I can sing a bit but to have "a voice" is such a gift. I sang in a concert with professional orchestra and soloists once at La Madeleine and it was just the most amazing buzz.

Orominuialwen 04-08-2006 02:04 PM

Fea is Lissa Schneckenburger.

Feanor of the Peredhil 04-08-2006 05:06 PM

Cool.

Balin999 04-10-2006 06:00 AM

It's always rather nice to discover that you are mentioned in a thread.

Quote:

Balin999 is Cory Heart.
ähm.... I found a pic of him, I guess.... but is that really me? I don't know....
Who is he?

I remember the good ol' times when some people said I looked like Ewan mcgregor or Elijah Wood. I'm rather curious what people will say if they see my new pic.

And Fea , you're definitely NOT Avril Lavigne.

Looking at your current pic at the gallery, I have to think of Winona Ryder for some reason. In her earlier days.... which is a big compliment, actually.

edit: I'm sorry, I was looking at both of the "how do you imagine..." threads and forgot that this was the one with the voices... silly me
So I'll have to add that since Fea is looking like W.R., she maybe has a similar voice...

The Only Real Estel 04-24-2006 04:17 PM

departing the trend of music artists for the moment...

Gurthang is a mix between Michael Moore and John Madden. :D

"Shame on you! Shame on you! If you have good football players, and then you take a good football and give it to those good football players, th-th-then you've got what's known as good football players with a good football. Even if it is nine hundred eleven degrees farenheit out."

Morai 04-24-2006 08:09 PM

Why not follow the Trend of Trendiness?

Quote:

Gurthang is a mix between Michael Moore and John Madden.
As for you, Estel , I think you're a mix between Johnny Depp and Viggo Mortensen (geeze, I think I just mutilated the spelling.....) You voice is deep enough to be mysterious, but still has that ruggish charm. No one would realize how sensitive you could be. ;)

Amanaduial the archer 04-25-2006 01:40 PM

Firefoot is scottish. And male, actually. I'm aware that makes no sense to describe the voice of a Midwest female, but due to Firefoot's tendency to play male RPG characters (sorry, but y'know - Siamak is one particularly who will always stick in my head); she has a kind of soft glaswegian accent - think Fran from Travis :) (It's a compliment. Really.)

Bethberry is another who has a rather distinct voice: Sarah McLaughlin, whose voice I love (When She Loved Me - aww...). However, I have no idea how Ms. Mclaughlin sounds when speaking, so imagine that singing voice speaking...

Lhunardawen 04-26-2006 02:47 AM

the phantom is Adam Levine. Yeah, go figure.

That said, maybe it makes sense that Fea is Avril Lavigne. Think about it: Levine - Lavigne. Get it? Haha.

*collective groan and a barrage of accurately aimed projectiles*

wilwarin538 04-26-2006 04:08 PM

Quote:

Wilwa is Gwen Stefani
Yes, that's much better then Paula Abdhul. :D

I totally agree with the Eomer = guy from Franz Ferdinand. I also agree with the Fea = Avril Lavigne.

I just listened to "It's more then a feeling" from Boston, and the lead singer's voice reminded me of TORE. Can't tell you why.

I also am reminded of the phantom when I listen to "Teenage Wasteland" from the Who. Again, can't tell you why. :p

Feanor of the Peredhil 04-26-2006 04:45 PM

How in the world have I become, to the collective consciousness, a voice clone of Avril Lavigne?
