A sort of blind shot - Hookbill?

The Sixth Wizard 04-25-2007 06:01 AM

If it isn't just a metaphorical riddle, I would say Piosenniel, for all her efforts in our RPG's. Managing the Shire-Roleplayers is hard work, and I should know, I'm one of 'em!

But otherwise I don't know. . .

Being Alive without breath does have it's advantages. :p

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-25-2007 06:59 AM

Close, but you're way off. :D

littlemanpoet 04-25-2007 03:15 PM

ah heck: davem?

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-26-2007 02:12 AM

Not davem.

First, get the aspect of the Downer I am looking at. It's very common on this thread to base a question on this aspect (and it's not the avatar ;) ).

Volo 04-29-2007 02:45 PM

Gil-Galad or hint.

littlemanpoet 04-29-2007 03:10 PM

piosenniel?

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-30-2007 12:41 PM

Personal Title.

Volo 04-30-2007 01:48 PM

So much I gathered. Could it be Nogrod?

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-30-2007 01:55 PM

Is anyone going to give reasons for their guesses? :p

I labour mightily, but do I ever lose my breath?

Volo 04-30-2007 02:02 PM

Ok, not Nogrod?

Finwe then?

All my guesses are connected to the eternity of the PTs.

Gil-Galad is the immortal psyche.

Nogrod is the unperishable flame. The flame that labours mightly creating. And a flame needs to "draw breath" from air, but since there is no air to that flame, it should "lose its breath".

Finwe is part GG, part Nogrod...

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-30-2007 03:21 PM

The 'labour mightily' part is much more down-to-earth and stereotypical than immortality and all that.

A real worker.

The 'breath' part is just an amusing thought that may come from literal reading.

Volo 04-30-2007 04:03 PM

Sorry, I'll spam.

Telchar? A smith is a real worker and stonehearted is breathless.

Oh sorry. Piosenniel because of all her work on the rpg forums. But apparently not.

How about Glirdan of the "Energetic Essence"? Maybe not much of a guess, but after 6 pages of titles, nothing else seems remotely like. (Elempi shrugs)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 05-01-2007 05:09 AM

Yarrr, Volo done got it! Telchar, the Stonehearted Dwarf Smith.

I thought the 'stonehearted' bit raised interesting questions about the character's circulation; and, of course, no-one labours harder than dwarven smiths.

Your thread. :)

Volo 05-01-2007 05:14 AM

At last! :)

Ok, I'll try not writing anything as cryptic as the Lost Age riddles, so here goes:

"This member reminds me that I should go to the optician."

Gil-Galad 05-01-2007 07:00 AM

Me thinks Hookbill and his Dylexsia, though the only spelling mistake he ever makes is my name...

That's simply not true, Giles.

Is it Boromir88? His avatar has odd glasses.

Volo 05-01-2007 07:18 AM

Nah and double nah.

Kath 05-01-2007 12:58 PM

spawn perhaps? Because of her avatar which people thought was many different things.

The Might 05-01-2007 01:21 PM

Maybe Sleepy Ranger
The writing on his avatar moves pretty fast and I must admit it took me a while to make out what it says

Macalaure 05-01-2007 01:51 PM

What about the guy who be short?

His avatar looks like it belongs to an elvish optician.

Folwren 05-01-2007 02:43 PM

How 'bout Encaitare? Her avatar makes my eyes hurt just looking at it......

Durelin 05-01-2007 08:20 PM

Maeggaladiel for being a "Near-sighted Elf" and for founding the"Society of Near-sighted Elves"?

Gil-Galad 05-01-2007 09:57 PM

Alatar! the theory is still going around that his avatar is gettign fuzzier and fuzzier every week or so

Volo 05-02-2007 06:50 AM

Gil-Galad got it! Alatar it is. ;)

Gil-Galad 05-02-2007 07:36 AM

"i am dead, not because i fought and lost, but because i refused to run"

its easier then you think...

Folwren 05-02-2007 09:17 AM

Gandalf_theGrey. Gandalf the Grey died - not because he lost the battle with the Balrog but because he did not turn and run while he could have.

It is not Gandalf the White because that was after he returned, and Gandalf the White didn't die.

good guess, but no

Eomer of the Rohirrim 05-12-2007 03:26 PM

Because you say it's easy, and Folwren's guess was good, I shall try Boromir88 — for Boromir's death (which most of us know about).

Rune Son of Bjarne 05-13-2007 06:35 AM

Beleg or Beleg Cúthalion ?

He did not fight and loose. . .

(neither did Turin, so that might be a possibility too)

Gil-Galad 05-13-2007 03:31 PM

i totally forgot the anwser... its on the tip of my tongue, but i know those aren't the anwsers...

Folwren 05-14-2007 10:30 AM

I was tempted into trying Boromir as well...also Fingolfin...but those both fought, and they both died because they fought and lost, but also becasue they didn't run. And yet, part of the clue is that it's not because they fought and lost... Gandalf seemed to be the only reasonable answer. I'll try again though...do more thinking.

Folwren 05-14-2007 10:33 AM

What about ***Gandalf*** or Beleg?

-- Folwren

Volo 05-20-2007 10:37 AM

What about you toss us a new riddle, Gil.

Gil-Galad 05-20-2007 06:36 PM

i should too... kay...

First Letter: of of a hero that slew a balrog to defend my people

last letter: is of an anooying rascal that proved his worth in the end

find these letters and then find the name!

Rune Son of Bjarne 05-20-2007 07:29 PM

hmm Glaurung?

Gil-Galad 05-20-2007 07:49 PM

nope keep guessing

Volo 05-20-2007 10:36 PM

Gothmog would be the same abusing Rune'a answer...
