Actually, the relationship between catnip mouse and cat is tragic. Destroyed by love. Like Eol and Aredhel...

Hilde Bracegirdle 10-13-2005 10:44 AM

Lalwende & davem

Are the Avengers

Hookbill the Goomba 10-13-2005 01:33 PM

The joy of categorisation of Forum members.

I've just been handed this rather interesting gem of a website. If you're having difficulty in imagining a fellow Forum member, then try to first fit them into one of the categories on thsi website.

i don't think you can say what you yourself are. I think you have to be told by someone else. Have fun, children!

Look here!!!

Lalwendë 10-14-2005 02:43 AM

Hilde - I couldn't see that link :( Was it a pic of the Avengers as in the classic 60's TV show? In that case I shall have to gender swap because I have to have the bowler hat of course, being the bearacrat (beuracrat? beauraucrat?.....aaargh)!

This is truly profound! My cats have an old, tatty ratty, he has been 'loved' so much by them that his insides are hanging out and he only has one eye and one ear. :(

Hilde Bracegirdle 10-14-2005 03:47 AM

Yes Lalwendë, it was the 60's Avengers, and such a darn good black and white studio photo too! Ah well.

It seems a bit more tragic when a dog falls for the cat's catnip mouse. We also have one with its insides peeking out.

Does that mean we can then imagine davem in a black leather catsuit and high-heeled boots? :D

Lalaith 10-14-2005 03:59 AM

Was it Honor or Diana, though?

You may if you like, Esty, but I would prefer not to summon up that image! :)
Actually, neither catsuit nor the bowler was present in this particular photo.

It was Diana, Lalaith. She is the only Mrs. Peel to me.

Lalaith 10-14-2005 05:00 AM

Ah, well that would explain why she wasn't wearing a catsuit...it was Cathy Gale ( Ms Blackman) who wore those, Mrs Peel (Ms Rigg) had much more demure satorial style.
NB Ahem. I hasten to add, before anyone starts imagining me as a zimmer frame, that my Avengers knowledge comes from viewing repeats rather than original transmissions...

Holbytlass 10-14-2005 06:17 AM

Wow, Hookbill, I looked through all those 'warriors' and a few people came to mind, but I'm too afraid to say their names!!

I know, but sometimes falts have to be said before they can be amended. :p

No offence, but Gil-Gallad and the phantom are almost this guy. :P And The Lord high Wight can be no one but this.

Holbytlass 10-14-2005 07:06 AM

Okay then, on a lighter side, Feanor and The Phantom are these. That also applies to the balrog wings/no wings debaters and the author or reader responsibility debaters as well!

Lalaith 10-14-2005 07:16 AM

One of the things I enjoy about the Barrowdowns is the high quality of this class.
Which clearly makes me one of these ?

Hilde Bracegirdle 10-14-2005 10:34 AM

You know, when looking at the site posted by Hookbill, this reminded me of burrahobbit.

the phantom 10-14-2005 10:43 AM

Yes, yes- that does remind me of me. :p

SPM is definitely nanny.

I can't stand these for some reason.

Hookbill the Goomba 10-14-2005 11:06 AM

How many Lurkers are on this Forum? Those spiders are very suspicious!

Sometimes, Gil reminds me of Evil Clown and Yuk Yuk. :p

And I think The Perky Ent is becoming an Ent!

Mithalwen 10-14-2005 01:37 PM

Well HI must be an archivist... but (if he would excuse the Russian reference), I see him more as a Faberge egg.

The Phantom is a fedora

Encaitare is a Chopin prelude

Piosenniel is a vade-mecum bound in Florentine paper

Rune Son of Bjarne 10-14-2005 01:58 PM

Thinlómien

She is as statet before Winnie the Pooh aka Peter Plys.

Actually it is hard to tell Winnie from Thinlómien! They are both loveable and stuffed with fluff! They endlessly craves a snackerel of whatever little something is at hand.
At last: Friends before all, even honey!

So it can be hard to tell them apart, exept that Thinlómien is younger ! (I guess)

mormegil 10-14-2005 03:19 PM

Agreed Phantom the SpM is the Nanny

H-I is The Eagle Scout

I am probablyFerrous Cranus

Others may be forthcoming.

Oddwen 10-14-2005 05:11 PM

Cool site, Hookbill!

H-I would certainly be the Necromancer - though in a good way, of course, as his necromancy more often than not breathes true life back into good threads.

I see Esty as more of the Nanny. SpM is more of this.

We've all been one of these at one time, haven't we?

Gil is slightly loopy!

And am I wrong, or can this be Nilp?

There's gotta be a Godfather here, I just can't think who...

And I, I am a cross between a Lurker and a Pithy Phrase.

And finally - Balrog Wings!

Thankfully, I can see more Werewolf Warriors than regular forum warriors in those pictures.

You two even look like them... so that's how I shall forever imagine you. And Mrs. Peel was the best of Steed's partners. Just had to get that out there. :p

Bureaucrat. ;)

Boromir88 10-15-2005 09:16 AM

hmmm...I think obloquy fits well with this one. :)

I'm sorry, I can't resist, reading the big cat, and the word "laconically," and the rest just reminds me of myself. So, I guess I'm telling everyone to watch out? :p

And davem is our forum eagle scout.

Sorry, Boromir, but setting as the word "laconic", I think that Big Cate suits The Phantom a lot better than it does you. Or anyone else...

But with a dash of Ego, of course...

I am still not sure if this is sweet or scary....

Anguirel, Mormegil and Gurthang are of course all swords.

However, Anguirel is a Toledo rapier, Mormegil is a broadsword and Gurthang (sorry the avatar makes me think of you as a practical joker) is one of those stage swords you can pretend to stab people with... or maybe a cutlass.

Wilwarin is antique lace

Lalaith (of course) is a skylark

Lalaith 10-15-2005 02:09 PM

And I now (for equally obvious reasons) envisage Mith as resembling the late and much lamented Kirsty McColl...

I am so glad you didn't say Ray Davies ;)

Lalaith 10-15-2005 02:16 PM

Now would I do that...

Mithalwen 10-15-2005 02:24 PM

well I am even more glad I didn't plump for a "Fairy tale of New York" quote and open up the possibility of Shane McGowan..... :p

Bêthberry 10-15-2005 05:18 PM

Well, I guess I have to throw water on the flame warriors, but to be honest, I just cannot see any of those really fitting well any of our Downers.

I can see some ways in which SpM has some of those characteristics, but that doesn't begin to cover all his traits. There's a great deal of davem in this one, too, but, again, it doesn't quite come to terms with some of his other traits, which of course doesn't begin to include his other tendancy. See what I mean?

Then there's The Barrow Wight's various styles as his image as one to be feared but also just a little bit of this too.

I see myself slightly mixed between this one . this one , this one and this one . I know, hard to believe, eh?

There's a bit of truth about Eomer here, but not enough of his sense of humour. And there is a slight resemblance here of Boro88 but hardly enough to do justice to his profound rhetorical skills.

See what I mean? I think it does a grave disservice to account us Downers as anything ressembling such stereotypes. We are beyond caricature, I say!

(ran out of time--so many more I could have discussed as being inapplicable without in any way assuming allegorical reference!)

Hookbill the Goomba 10-16-2005 06:57 AM

Although he doesn’t follow the description given on the website, I like to imagine this is what The Barrow Wight looks like;

http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/Assets/evilclown.jpg

Mithalwen 10-16-2005 11:42 AM

I now have the disturbing image of Bethberry as the ideal woman for a certain type of English ex-public school boy.... :p

I did look at those but the only people I identified would be hugely unflattered so I will keep them to myself...

Hookbill the Goomba 10-17-2005 01:34 AM

Not naming any names, but there used to be a large proportion of these before I changed my signature. It did get quite annoying. :(

Also, I wonder if there are any of these around... Hmm.

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-17-2005 08:28 AM

Thanks a lot, Hookbill. A clown? Now you've gone and made me terrified of The Barrow-Wight.

Fordim Hedgethistle 10-17-2005 08:53 AM

OK, here's me.

Or maybe this is.

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-17-2005 09:05 AM

Eek. Fordie, ye've officially gotten me somewhat disturbed. :p

Due to my recent encounter with hookbill the goomba, he now wears a sweater reading "class of 1984"

I hope your not trying to turn into this, Bergil. :D
